Brexit

The weather is on the side of the people

Chucking it down in the East of England. Storms last night. Senior Remain campaigners phoning in minute by minute weather updates to Brussels. To say there is despair among the elite is to do the English language injustice.

Brexiters were out in force, soaked to the skin, some were being carried to the polling booths. As we said "good morning" to each other, there were mentions of "Independence Day" with laughs and winks.

Some Brexiters looked to the Heavens as they chucked down rain upon us and smiled. The Heavens were on our side.

It seems the rain dance I witnessed last night, led by the Mayor, council officials, local dignitaries and senior parishoners has paid off in spades.

Nothing to do with areas of low pressure, clouds, stuff like that?

AugustaFinkNottle · 23/06/2016 11:46

Sun now coming out in the South. The weather is indeed on the side of the people.

flippinada · 23/06/2016 11:46

I like the sound of that Mango :)

I'm in Aberystwyth, widely described as the most pro-Remain town in Britain.

The sunshine is blazing down, it's lovely.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 23/06/2016 12:16

Lucky I postal voted then. REMAIN. Smile

My dad's a 79 year old pensioner: he's voted Remain Smile

squoosh · 23/06/2016 12:45

Scorchio in Glasgow.

squoosh · 23/06/2016 12:45

(okay maybe not scorchio exactly, but a lovely sunny day none the less)

Lweji · 23/06/2016 12:49

claig are you saying that something the Telegraph thinks might happen (ie heavy rain washing across the whole nation all day) is a more reliable source of factual information that the satellite map showing where it is actually raining?

Even better, the Telegraph thought YESTERDAY instead of what is happening now.

If Remain wins, claig, will you be shutting your eyes and ears and going lalala tomorrow?

claig · 23/06/2016 12:55

"EU Referendum: Polling stations forced to close by floods, as final polls show race 'too close to call'

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/06/23/eu-referendum-boris-johnson-says-a-brexit-will-be-a-turning-poin/

Bad news because Brexiters would swim through an alligator infested raging torrent in order to cast a vote. But they are moving some of the affected polling stations.

'If Remain wins, claig, will you be shutting your eyes and ears and going lalala tomorrow?'

No because we have already finished it, the people have ended it and if it is not the British people who end it, then it will be another European people after us. It will collapse, it is not if, it is when. That is why there are such anguished looks on the faces of the great and the good who sup on the gravy train.

I was out campaigning for Remain in the mild drizzle this morning, in London. The rain has completely stopped now, and it's very warm. Not great for your lot then, claig.

claig · 23/06/2016 13:04

The EU is like Numpty Dumpty and the wall has collapsed. The great and the good won't be able to put it back together again even if we narrowly vote to stay. Its credibility is in tatters, the great and the good are hanging onto the gravy train by a thread.

Hey Claig just bumped into my (early 70s) parents coming out of the Polling Place, they voted Remain.

As did every single person I spoke to today. No Leave voters on my FB feed either.

The sun is still shining here btw.

But all that aside, I'd still love you to answer my earlier question.

How are Boris (Eton and Oxford educated, former Times journalist) and Nigel (Dulwich College educated, former Commodities Broker) not considered "elite" by you?

Natsku · 23/06/2016 13:05

This thread has cracked me up, classic Claig

flippinada · 23/06/2016 13:08

Well, I popped out to cast my vote and was most disappointed by the lack of emotional displays. Ah well. I did a enjoy a stroll in the warm, sunny weather though.

squoosh · 23/06/2016 13:08

I think claig should have made his/her living as an evangelical preacher.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 23/06/2016 13:09

and once the referendum is over it'll be back to the 'Donald Trump, man of the people, anti establishment, savior of the free world' posts.

Think I'll go and lay down now.

claig · 23/06/2016 13:09

Thanks, Natsku Grin

I love the way that claig wins whatever the result, made me smile.
Beautiful day here in the north, my 74 year old mum just voted remain.

Shockingundercrackers · 23/06/2016 13:11

Lovely weather here on the south coast. After weeks of gloom, one almighty storm and now... mild and sunny.

I strolled out in a tee shirt to vote for more European weather.

After grey dismal little English skies for so long, I'm feeling quite optimistic. Might go wild and buy some Euros in a min for our summer holiday... Grin

flippinada · 23/06/2016 13:11

I agree squoosh. She/he has a real flair for it!

LunaLoveg00d · 23/06/2016 13:12

not like the Westminster schmoozers, greasers and toffs who have their snouts permanently in the trough.

Right. This isn't particularly relevant on this thread but it's attitudes like this which contributed to the shooting of Jo Cox last week. Politicians do NOT all have their "snouts in the trough". The overwhelming majority are ordinary people who work bloody hard for their constituents and give up all rights to a private life and spare time.

Take your trite, politician hating comments and shove them. In the politest way possible.

flippinada · 23/06/2016 13:12

I'm also liking this thread, it's been very good natured. Thanks claig :)
