Brexit

The weather is on the side of the people

Chucking it down in the East of England. Storms last night. Senior Remain campaigners phoning in minute by minute weather updates to Brussels. To say there is despair among the elite is to do the English language injustice.

Brexiters were out in force, soaked to the skin, some were being carried to the polling booths. As we said "good morning" to each other, there were mentions of "Independence Day" with laughs and winks.

Some Brexiters looked to the Heavens as they chucked down rain upon us and smiled. The Heavens were on our side.

I walked through the rain and floods to vote REMAIN

claig · 23/06/2016 10:32

Thanks, MangoMoon. You have got to have a laugh about it all.

'I walked through the rain and floods to vote REMAIN'

Branleuse, were you a solitary figure?

Pouring with rain here and yet I still managed to get to the polling station to vote remain.

BurningBright · 23/06/2016 10:39

There seems to be an awful lot of Remain voters posting on this thread. The Brexiters are obviously all at the polling booths.

Naaah. Us remainers just got to the polls extra early. Grin

oldharrysgame · 23/06/2016 10:42

I left for work too early to get to the polling station. When I get home dh and I and our dd will walk to the polling station and vote. I'm voting remain. Dh says he is to but it is his business. If it is pissing down I will either walk anyway or drive. What's the big fecking deal about the weather op?

Branleuse · 23/06/2016 10:44

well it was quite early, but I saw someone I know going in and I shouted vote remain, and we high fived.

Loads of vote remain signs in the windows round here.

claig · 23/06/2016 10:51

'What's the big fecking deal about the weather op?'

In Westminster, they are very worried about the turnout. That is why they extended registration by two days to try and get more young voters registered.

There is a feeling among the Westminster crew that the Brexiters are more passionate and as Farage said "will crawl over broken glass to vote" and the Westminster crew are worried that bad weather will mean that the Remain side will not turn out to vote.

Remember, Cameron coming out outside Number Ten the other day to "address voters his age and above". They are worried because the older voters turn out come hell or high water and are thought to be for Brexit, but the Westminster crew are not as confident about the rest of the public and that is why they prayed for good weather, a wish that was not granted.

Except it was, in vast swathes of the country.

Whisky2014 · 23/06/2016 10:55

Seriously, we had all this at the Scottish referendum. Don't get too wrapped up the hype. They've had to draw out the weather as a story to keep the momentum going.

You're getting lost into the abyss but tomorrow you will see it was a wasted effort. The Remainers are more silent than the people voting for change, again exactly what happened in the Scottish referendum.

Whisky2014 · 23/06/2016 10:56

The weather hasn't even crossed my mind weather to vote or not. Ludicrous! Granny's just voted :)

prettybird · 23/06/2016 11:15

Not seen a single poster in a window for either Remain or Leave up here - but I predict a strong Remain vote in Scotland.

flippinada · 23/06/2016 11:18

No posters up here either (also Scotland). I think Scotland will go for remain.

The weather is a non-story. If you're determined to go out and vote then it won't put you off, however bad it is.

Whisky2014 · 23/06/2016 11:20

Yep, I'm Scotland too also no posters but a real sense of Remain.

LaserShark · 23/06/2016 11:21

I'm recovering from foot surgery but I walked (through the hot sunshine) to vote Remain. Polling station was busy but I was disappointed at the lack of high fiving and celebratory comraderie Grin.

flippinada · 23/06/2016 11:26

This thread has set my expectations high.

I'll be most upset if there isn't a load of whooping, cheering and high-fiving at my polling station when I get there.

It's pouring here in Hampshire and my vote to leave has been cast.
Our small village is covered in Leave posters...

claig · 23/06/2016 11:28

'Our small village is covered in Leave posters...'

A very sensible place indeed

Everyone was surprised at the general election exit poll. Because Tiry voters were "shy" in declaring their alliegance for fear of being negatively labelled. I wonder if this is the same re Leavers: social media covered in Remain messages but maybe the actual vote will be contrary to that hope so

claig · 23/06/2016 11:33

It seems the rain dance I witnessed last night, led by the Mayor, council officials, local dignitaries and senior parishoners has paid off in spades.

claig · 23/06/2016 11:36

MangoMoon · 23/06/2016 11:36

Me too flippinada!

I'm even planning to have some coffee & cake in the sunshine in a cafe opposite our voting station.

I'm expecting a street party carnival type atmosphere so will be gutted if it's nothing of the sort Sad

I may even paint my face WinkGrin

glassgarden · 23/06/2016 11:42
