Brexit

The weather is on the side of the people

Chucking it down in the East of England. Storms last night. Senior Remain campaigners phoning in minute by minute weather updates to Brussels. To say there is despair among the elite is to do the English language injustice.

Brexiters were out in force, soaked to the skin, some were being carried to the polling booths. As we said "good morning" to each other, there were mentions of "Independence Day" with laughs and winks.

Some Brexiters looked to the Heavens as they chucked down rain upon us and smiled. The Heavens were on our side.

No, this is true.

RosesareSublime · 24/06/2016 00:25

and blair.....

fourmummy · 24/06/2016 00:27

Rose, sorry, it all went a bit mad. FTSE has just dropped 7% and £$ has just dropped. Really volatile.

RosesareSublime · 24/06/2016 00:28

I think it goes to show just how high the feeling runs against the EU in those areas if they're prepared to shaft themselves

maybe they already feel shafted and this is why they are saying we dont bloody want this any more.

oh dear here comes John now, again - spinning.

Mango, missed JV am flicking between two chanels.

Sunderland had a large leave lead over remain.....but in over all terms its just one right?

or do the margins count?

smallfox1980 · 24/06/2016 00:29

No mango its because people have believed the rhetoric from the leave camp about immigration and public services etc.

There was a radio programme that went to Sunderland and interviewed people about their votes and a majority were voting leave because of not being able to get an appointment at the doctor or immigrants coming to take jobs.

Two things about that:

When asked had it effected them directly they said no.

Sunderland has a populations that is 96% born in the UK and 97.5% of people speak Engish as their first language.

claig · 24/06/2016 00:29

'In what way is the Establishment united?'

Has any other EU country had a referendum to leave or are we the first? Our Establishment is divided which is why we have a referendum at all. The leave forces (Daily Mail, farage, Tory rebels etc) have got us to here. But the majority strength is on the Remain side as we have seen with Cameron's Project Fear.

The people are always divided just as they are over Labour and Conservative. However, both Labour an Conservative are the Establishment so the Establishment doesn't care about the people's division because either way they win, but it does care about the EU Referendum because there is only one Establishment and if they lose, they lose.

Has anyone got the schedule for tonight/ When is the next result?

MangoMoon · 24/06/2016 00:31

The markets are going mad - the bankers are working overtime tonight

BlunderWomansCat · 24/06/2016 00:31

Jeez, sterling down 6% in the last few minutes Shock
Fantastic Confused

MangoMoon · 24/06/2016 00:33

I had a link open from earlier Four, but I stupidly shut it - I'm just riding the wave now!

Was going to go to bed but Newcastle & Sunderland have whetted my appetite!

Have just made a tassimo Americano so I expect to be up for some time now Grin

claig · 24/06/2016 00:33

John Mann was on the Daily Politics a few weeks back and he said that if MPs knocked on doors, they would be shocked by what they would find at how many Labour voters were voting out.

If what he says holds, then we could still do very well tonight and possibly win.

I know claig, they are divorced from reality.

If anything I hope this re starts the labour party, with people like frank field coming to the fore...

claig · 24/06/2016 00:36

'If anything I hope this re starts the labour party, with people like frank field coming to the fore...'

Yes, and I am starting to like John Mann as well, and of course Kate Hoey

Divorced from reality is exactly what the exit camp are.

Exit and in 12 months people will be complaining about high inflation and unemployment.

claig · 24/06/2016 00:41

Wow, Vernon Bogdanor, Cameron's old PPE tutor, says there is a possibility Leave will win and we will leave the EU and it will be a "real kick to the Establishment".

This is getting good.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 24/06/2016 00:42

So the people are divided byt we should vote with the people...
So...vote divided then.

I call bollocks on your vote with the people. You are no more 'the people' than any other person claig.

Loving the way leave are glad the great British non Euro currency is taking a dive though. Confused

BlunderWomansCat · 24/06/2016 00:42

Goodbye EU, hello recession Sad

fourmummy · 24/06/2016 00:43

Big win for Leave in North Warwickshire, apparently

fourmummy · 24/06/2016 00:44

Lincolnshire cobe as high as 80% Brexit.

Neither of the above two results are confirmed yet

smallfox1980 · 24/06/2016 00:44

The Newcastle result is interesting, the BBC mentioned that its a big Univeristy town, but it doesn't seem to have dawned on them that most uni students have gone home for the summer by now.

MangoMoon · 24/06/2016 00:46

The general feeling seems to be that the usually quiet majority are making their presence felt.

People are sick of being ignored & downtrodden.

Even on sodding MN, with threads questioning the intelligence & sanity of leave voters - patronising 'I'm better than uneducated you' bollocks.
Keeping the peasants down at all costs, lest they upend the apple cart.

Grrr.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 24/06/2016 00:46

As long as we kick the establishment eh? Doesn't matter if we kneecap ourselves in the process.

Do you have teenagers at all claig?

squoosh · 24/06/2016 00:48

The quiet majority may well live to regret it. Oh well, their choice.

MangoMoon · 24/06/2016 00:49

There's a thread in chat with heaps if remainers on.

I'm staying off it because I don't want to unintentionally upset anyone.

Why are people having a pop at Claig on here?
Shit skills.

We all had a vote, we are all allowed our own views - everybody is valid and important, nobody is better than any other person.

claig · 24/06/2016 00:50

'Do you have teenagers at all claig?'

Yes and I think they will be better off in an independent Britain. We are the 5th largest economy in the world, we will carry on doing the same trade with France and Germany, but we will no longer need to bail out Romania etc. We will be better off as we will spend our money on our own universities and health service.
