My Tory shires Aunty in Tunbridge Wells voted remain, I'd have had her down as nailed on Brexiter. Likewise my sun reading mother in law who's always moaning about migrants has voted remain. These are good omens. In my mind.

My friend and her DH and their 2 DC who are Labour campaigners and Labour Party members have voted leave. I'd have havery them down as remain totally.

My Uncle who I thought would certainly leave is remain.

All topsy-turvy turvy. Confused

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 23/06/2016 18:37

I was adamant I was voting out I feel the EU divides people too much the growing gap between the wealthy and those that are just getting by

But I am voting remain with a heavy heart and I feel others will do the same just not ready to take that step into the unknown

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 23/06/2016 18:38

Far left has always been anti EU

LikeDylanInTheMovies · 23/06/2016 18:44

Yep if he wasn't party leader Corbyn would almost certainly be advocating a leave vote.

I think it;ll be a close thing but remain will "win".

I wonder how much damage has been done to Labour support as happened in Scotland.........

squoosh · 23/06/2016 21:00

I think all parties will be checking for injuries. The bitter Tory infighting has only just begun though. Now that is going to get nasty.

incywinci · 23/06/2016 21:01

I think it'll be remain but very close numbers.

The damage has already been done though.

Lottielou7 · 23/06/2016 21:02

I think the outcome will be remain. My mum thinks it's fixed.

flippinada · 23/06/2016 21:04

Whoever does win, it'll be a phyrric victory. As PP have said, the damage has been done.

shinytorch2 · 23/06/2016 21:07

I think the Labour Party has been irreparably damaged by this. It's so clear they've ignored their core voters for too long. A remain vote tonight means a boost for ukip.

RedToothBrush · 23/06/2016 21:09

I wonder how much damage has been done to Labour support as happened in Scotland.........

I saw a figure about polling on this earlier. They think it was something like 68% of Labour voters were intending to vote for remain in the end, but only something like 43% of people who voted conservative at the election were going to go for remain.

I can't find the link, so I'm not 100% on those percentages that's from memory which might be inaccurate. Certainly the point was that a lot more Labour voters went for remain in the end than was perhaps being suggested previously.

It surprised me though. Its does suggest that Labour abandoning Corbyn was potentially overstated. We shall see.

But you also have to note that percentage on Conservative voters, given the fact that they made up the majority at the GE.

Anyone want to hazard a guess how many polling stations will have large queue at 10pm? Its going to happen isn't it?

(Law is now that if you are in the queue at 10pm you will still be allowed to vote, in case it does come up).

RedToothBrush · 23/06/2016 21:10

Will see if I can find the source of that polling I saw above...

Figgygal · 23/06/2016 21:13

Remain will win I think it'll be a bigger margin than is being predicted too

flippinada · 23/06/2016 21:13

Sure I saw something similar Red

RosesareSublime · 23/06/2016 21:14

Morning star came out for LEAVE

MeMySonAndl · 23/06/2016 21:14

I have always been on the remain camp but I found many pro- leave people are so passionate, it is impossible getting into a reason/facts based debate on the subject. I believe about 80% in my office are into the in camp (we REALLY need EU funding in our sector) but considering how horrible the two pro leavers turn if you disagree with them, we just smiled and said not to be sure.

Yesterday I met with a woman who has been trying every possible way to stay in the UK permanently against her visa rules. Apparently, she has a right to vote as her country, whose citizenship she surrendered to get a third country passport, is part of the commonwealth . She is voting Leave, as she dislikes the way all her cousins are exploring the UK benefit system... If I had told her what I thought of her views, it would have been the end of our friendship....

MangoMoon · 23/06/2016 21:17

I agree the damage has already been done whatever the outcome (I think remain will win though), but the rot has been there for years in the 2 main parties.

Hopefully this will be the catalyst for change for both parties and some good can come out of it.
There appears to be some seemingly well meaning, good intentioned newer MPs that are up & coming at the mo across the board.
Hopefully Labour will return to representing & championing the working masses & holding the Tories properly to account, and when the senior Tories have finished ripping each other apart a new breed will emerge from the wreckage.

At least the voices of the usually quiet majority have actually been heard for once, now the politicians just need to actually act on the issues that matter to people outside the London bubble.

RosesareSublime · 23/06/2016 21:21

I dont think either main party can do that mango because they cant help them with the main issue in poor areas, which is.......that word again.

They cant say " yes its too strained here, because they cant do anything about it. There is no money to suddenly build new schools and hospitals, maybe in decades time we can catch up, but not at the speed with which the population is growing, which I guess is why they deny peoples concerns? they just dont listen

MeMySonAndl · 23/06/2016 21:28

Mango, I do agree about the damage being done already and that this would be a catalyst for not a very positive change:

With the vote so close, if remain wins the extreme right will flourish wildly over the next few years, if leave wins, we would be In a financial pickle for some years but would Great Britain become little England?

I really cannot see the EU staying as we know it if we leave, it will collapse sooner or later.

Either way, I think a general election should be called for ASAP, Cameron needs to leave after this mess.

Littlemisslovesspiders · 23/06/2016 21:35

There is a really good article on this.

I'll see if I can find it.

Littlemisslovesspiders · 23/06/2016 21:38

Here it is.

A must read for everyone imo.

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 23/06/2016 21:48

I think Leave will win. I have voted to Remain.

nancy75 · 23/06/2016 21:49

I think Remain will just have it, what worries me is the number of people that want to leave - will they all vote UKIP at the next opportunity?

shinytorch2 · 23/06/2016 21:57

Nancy - no, I don't think they will all vote UKIP at the next opportunity, but I think a sizeable majority would, so UKIP's position would be bolstered by the disaffected from both the labour party and conservatives. I've said it before, I predict a hung parliament in 2020, with UKIP holding some negotiating cards.
