(but if you want a bigger survey, then a polling firm asked this question of 6500 people and 61% said Remain*

Depends who they are if they have shown how they were sampled what their methodology is. Does it include all of the country. Are DK factored in? How the question was asked etc etc etc

Not as simple as just doing a poll

squoosh · 23/06/2016 13:07

I imagine that people who work in polling are v. worried the winning side will win by a comfortable margin. They'd be totally discredited then.

flippinada · 23/06/2016 13:38

The poll of polls has been updated once again and is now showing 52% for Remain and 48% for Leave:

I think it's so difficult to predict. I do wonder about the 'shy' Tory effect. If you think of all the 'your racist' etc shoutings people may not want to disclose how they are going to vote.

RedToothBrush · 23/06/2016 13:50

Anyone fancying an alternative bet on Brexit.

There is a horse by the name running at Newmarket at 6.10pm.

RedToothBrush · 23/06/2016 14:58

Its looking very close....

Creeping nervousness setting in here.

Vrijeme · 23/06/2016 15:11

But I think its fairly comprehensive sampling.

LineyReborn · 23/06/2016 16:15

On this thread on the 21st at 21:34 I predicted Remain on 55% and I'm sticking with that.

ClashCityRocker · 23/06/2016 16:32

I'm going remain 55% I think.

It's been a tense day in the office, this has all been very divisive. I'm quite sick of saying 'maybe we shouldn't discuss politics in the workplace.....'

Helmetbymidnight · 23/06/2016 16:55

If the polls are showing remain now - based on voting today - then I would think remain will have it. Most workers who will vote tonight will vote remain, surely.

SapphireStrange · 23/06/2016 17:01

I voted early this morning. In tears in the booth, thinking 'Why am I doing this? How did we GET here?'

While I'll be relieved if we remain, I will loathe Cameron for ever for leading us to this.

On the upside, I'm cheered by some of those last polls. Although it seems that two major ones indicated Remain and two Leave, so it's all still to play for.

Littlemisslovesspiders · 23/06/2016 17:09

Most workers who will vote tonight will vote remain, surely.

That has got to be one of the most sweeping and incorrect statements I've seen. Hmm

What basis have you got for that?

LineyReborn · 23/06/2016 17:11

Littlemiss, I think the assumption is that Remain will provide greater job security overall.

Helmetbymidnight · 23/06/2016 17:14

Really, one of the most incorrect and sweeping statements you've ever seen?

Are you prone to hyperbole?

My basis is that polls have repeatedly shown that the old (not working) are some of brexits biggest supporters while the young - working - are not.

You'll note I said 'I would think' and 'surely' to enable the discerning reader to understand I was not Jeremy paxman.

Ok?

OrangesandLemonsNow · 23/06/2016 17:17

My basis is that polls have repeatedly shown that the old (not working) are some of brexits biggest supporters while the young - working - are not.

Older people are also more likely to vote. Younger people aren't.

It's all swings and roundabouts and you could tie yourself up in knots trying to work out who will vote what.

In truth no one knows.

Helmetbymidnight · 23/06/2016 17:22

But the point I was trying to make, in "one of the most incorrect and sweeping statements" little miss has ever seen (she obviously failed to read the brexit literature) Grin is that old people do tend to vote in the day- workers tend to vote in the evening.

Peppatina · 23/06/2016 17:26

A lot of old people I know are workers....

My 73 year old mum finished her shift at 4, she'll have been a later voter.

Helmetbymidnight · 23/06/2016 17:32

Well my heartfelt apologies that on this thread where everyone puts what they think will happen, that my prediction is the most incorrect and sweeping ever seen. Grin

I'm sure there will be plenty of older people voting both in and out tonight.

TheNaze73 · 23/06/2016 17:34

A beautiful 53-47% win for remain Smile

Helmetbymidnight · 23/06/2016 17:36

The majority of workers will likely vote remain (tonight)!!

(Runs away)

neverknowinglywrong · 23/06/2016 17:44

Crying in the booth??? Confused

flippinada · 23/06/2016 17:56

Yes - based on my own experience I think it's quite believable. The uncertainty of the outcome (some people will be in fear of losing their jobs or worried about having to leave the country -- two examples) combined with an aggressive and unpleasant campaign is exactly the sort of situation to provoke stress and anxiety.

OTheHugeManatee · 23/06/2016 18:03

I think it will be Remain, but very tight. 48-52 perhaps. Then all hell will break loose.

LikeDylanInTheMovies · 23/06/2016 18:19

Manatee we had predictions of Armageddon in Scotland when the independence referendum was announced but aside from a few pissed up bams we didn't descend into mass brawling and we usually love a rammy up here.

I am a nurse and was talking to patients about this today, I was quite surprised that they were all voting remain which makes me hopeful that we will stay in. They are all over 80yo.
