*scratches head* Why is the Remain campaign so rattled?

I genuinely don't get it. They have already spent £9 million on leaflets, wheeled out everyone from the IMF to the American President and the telephone polls are putting them in the lead. Admittedly, the campaign feels a bit "meh" in that they are talking about potential losses instead of positive future plans, but they still seem to be doing OK.

So why does it feel like they are panicking? Could it just be the way it's reported?

Springing: "The Government never envisioned the problem, let alone put in place plans to provide the enhanced infrastructure."

Governments of both hues have been aware of this, back in 2011/2012 there were warnings about school places being needed. The governments free school and acadamy policies have had an effect on new places being offered. Even still 85% of children get their first choice.

360,000 is net migration btw, of which EU immigration is just less than half, can you use EU immigration statistics please and not all immigration as over HALF of immigration won't be effected by leaving the EU.

littledrummergirl · 24/04/2016 21:41

David Cameron called for this referendum as part of his election campaign. As the head of a responsible government he must have plans to take this country forward in the event of Brexit. I would like to know what they are? How will he negotiate trade deals? Who and with which countries?
If Britain votes for Brexit he will have to ensure a smooth transition without all of the doom laden scenarios. If we have Brexit and the country falls apart the chances of another Tory government will be slim to none. He must have plans and I would like to know them.
If he has no plans then surely it was irresponsible to have a referendum.

lurked101 · 24/04/2016 21:42

I'm definately not desperate, you don't need to use the word refugee you imply it when you talk about Cologne and "people of other cultures".

Also Spring the 25% of births is of from mothers who are not UK citizens, that means from all immigration not EU. As previously stated the number of EU births will be lower than that.

lurked101 · 24/04/2016 21:43

The referendum was called because he got scared by UKIP grabbing a big share of the vote in EU and other elections. It was to sway people back to voting tory.

I dont't think DC would ever have envisioned it being so close so he took a risk, it may backfire spectacularly, which is why they are really working hard to get people to vote to stay.

PuttingouthefirewithGasoline · 24/04/2016 21:46

"Ahmet Davutoglu that if the new proposed liberal travel regime failed to materialize " no one would expect Turkey to adhere to its commitments" His threat echos President Erdogan who has said he would call off the migrant deal is the EU does not for fill its promises"

"The Turkish Parliament is currently rushing to pass legislation to meet the 72 criteria required by Brussels before EU member states and MEPS take a final vote."

There are hurdles for Turkey such as Cyrpus, behind the scenes diplomats are saying it wont happen by June but Turkey knows it has a trump card and is not afraid to play it.

PuttingouthefirewithGasoline · 24/04/2016 21:52

I'm definately not desperate, you don't need to use the word refugee you imply it when you talk about Cologne and "people of other cultures

So who did perpetrate the attacks in Cologne. I thought the issue was, it was not the indigenous male population?

lurked101 · 24/04/2016 22:00

It wasn't refugees but people who had legal right to be there, visa granted etc.

Also linking back to Anna's Daily Mail article, tell you what its interesting that you will accept the findings of the government when it suits you, yet dismiss it as vested interest when it doesn't.

If I could find another source other than the Mail I'd be quite happy to have a read and see if their claims is true, and happy to accept it if it is. The Mail however has a long track record of manipulating data.

AnnaForbes · 24/04/2016 22:01

Lurked is trying to cloud the issue. Everyone knows the perpetrators were men from the MENA region. Sweden is also having terrible problems with sex crime since opening its borders to the aforementioned men. Sweden is now the rape capital of the West. Dh is very concerned about this but I dont think even a sympathetic man can really understaning the deep fear women are experiencing across the EU.

AnnaForbes · 24/04/2016 22:02

you will accept the findings of the government when it suits you, yet dismiss it as vested interest when it doesn't. Crikey, pot, kettle? Grin

lurked101 · 24/04/2016 22:07

No I said that I would believe them if I could find a source other than the mail, it has a terrible history of distorting things.

I'm certainly not trying to play down the attacks either, but I think a bit of rationale needs to be used. The main perpetrators were not refugees but legal immigratns, legal immigrants from outside of the EU. So how is this connected to freedom of movement within the EU threatening the UK?

We have lots of non EU citizens living here, are you in fear here too? Are you not close to tarring all people with the same brush?

lurked101 · 24/04/2016 22:26

Also on the benefits thing, I'd use the OUMO data here:

www.migrationobservatory.ox.ac.uk/briefings/election-2015-briefing-migration-and-welfare-benefits

The suggestion would be that as only 14% of EU immigrants claim tax credits, then they are not coming here incentivised by benefits are they?

So, question brexiters, what would you do with current immigrants if we vote out?

PigletJohn · 24/04/2016 22:32

Throw them out and see the NHS collaspse, perhaps?

Or have you not noticed the vast numbers of foreigners keeping our hospitals afloat?

mummytime · 24/04/2016 22:39

Personally, my biggest worries are (purely selfish): can DH keep his job if the country votes brexit? Will our house still sell? Still be worth as much if Brexit?
Because I do wonder if my family would want/need to leave the country if the vote is to leave.
DH doesn't think it will come to that, but I worry it might.

PigletJohn · 24/04/2016 22:48

You can always rely on the Daily Mail. Did you know Lord Rothermere was born and educated here, and has a palatial UK home, but is not a UK taxpayer?

AnnaForbes · 24/04/2016 22:50

Mummytime, we have the same conversations in our house but based upon what we will do if we remain. DH is Jewish (atheist but by birth a Jew). He is very unsettled by anti-semitism which is on the rise. The migrants from MENA regions and Turkey's future accession really REALLY concern him as does German domination. As the parents if two daughters we are also aware of the real possibility our daughters' freedoms will be compromised in the name of religious tolerance - I am referring to Cologne etc rapes by men with a very different cultural upbringing.

PigletJohn · 24/04/2016 22:54

It is not particularly reassuring that the target of choice foe today's neo-fascists, is muslims.

The attacks and slurs are much the same as before, though.

AnnaForbes · 24/04/2016 22:55

Pigletjohn, the Daily Mail is quoted oft because it is one of the few newspapers which has acknowledged the problems we are experiencing. The Guardian and the BBC have their own agenda and have ignored, blacked out and minimised the attacks on women because it doesn't suit their agenda.

lurked101 · 24/04/2016 22:57

Do you think Anna that with EU membership this kind of thing will become more common place?

For one I think that you are blowing this slightly out of proportion. For example lots of areas of London have thousands upon thousands of people from Turkey and MENA countries and they are not perpatrating these crimes here.

lurked101 · 24/04/2016 22:59

BBC have their own agenda and have ignored, blacked out and minimised the attacks on women because it doesn't suit their agenda.

www.google.co.uk/search?q=bbc+cologne+attacks&oq=bbc+cologne+attacks&aqs=chrome..69i57j0l5.4016j0j9&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Sorry what? The BBC has no agenda, the Guardian I can take being more left wing but to say the Mail is reliable?

PigletJohn · 24/04/2016 23:02

AnnaForbes, the Daily Mail is quoted oft because it knows the beliefs and prejudices of its target market, and likes to feed them.

leftfootforward.org/2015/10/daily-mails-tax-dodge-hypocricy-over-facebook-insult/

And yet, the paper and its controller are notorious tax-dodgers.

www.jdwetherspoon.com/news/2015/08/20/how-viscount-rothermere-avoids-tax

lurked101 · 24/04/2016 23:03

The Guardian also reported the both the Cologne and Sweeden attacks, and the suspected Sweedish cover up. I don't think there has been a black out.

www.theguardian.com/world/2016/jan/11/swedish-police-accused-cover-up-sex-attacks-refugees-festival

Maybe not as hysteria enducing as the mail but very little is.

HildaOgdensMuriel · 24/04/2016 23:12

So there you are Anna the BBC has no agenda. Sorted.

lurked101 · 24/04/2016 23:18

So explain to me the opposite then?

But to quote the mail and criticise the BBC for being biased I think is laughable.

PigletJohn · 24/04/2016 23:57

Anna, it's wonderfully tolerant that you support the Daily Mail, which recycled images from Der Ewige Jude into an anti-Muslim cartoon on 17 November 2015

Both are too vile for me to copy here, but are readily searchable if you are in ignorance.

Some say a leopard doesn't change its spots.

AnnaForbes · 24/04/2016 23:57

HildaOgdensMuriel No agenda at the Beeb. lets not mentions the millions of pounds in grants they have been given by the EU

Lurked, there was a blackout. The NYE rapes werent reported for days after the attacks. When they were, the language was carefully nuanced to minimise the extent of the attacks.
