What is the term I should be using. Serious question.

I was suggesting that there will be another referendum in Scotland if the UK as a whole vote Brexit.

lavenderdoilly · 11/04/2016 17:23

I have no idea who Lola is. Just came to this thread. I must have missed something.

HelpfulChap · 11/04/2016 17:26

Do I say 'The Scottish' ?

If 'Scots' is offensive I will desist from using it.

lavenderdoilly · 11/04/2016 17:28

Continue to say The Scots if you wish. It doesn't offend me but it smacks of Donald Trump to lump people into one demographic who will vote only one way. He refers to getting "the Blacks'" support etc. It's cringe worthy.

lurked101 · 11/04/2016 17:29

Thing is Daisy is forbritain is a partisan brexit website. It does make some valid points about possible future growth from globalisation but negates to mention that the current deals signed with countries like South Korea are already hugely beneficial to EU members. The PWC report says that renegotiating deals would be a lengthy process and have a liklihood of being less beneficial because of the smaller % of trade that we do with these countries as an individual nation.

HelpfulChap · 11/04/2016 17:43

I reckon Lurked is a Gooner.

Lavender, I don't think I lumped all Scottish people together, I suggested that the 45% who voted for Independence could vote Leave as it would further their long term cause.

lurked101 · 11/04/2016 17:44

Also that article hangs a lot of its points on the fact if: " the UK membership were reformed but access to the single market retained." So basically saying if we negotiate the beneficial trade deal that other EU states say will not be forthcoming, the UK will remain a good place to trade.

That won't happen!

HelpfulChap · 11/04/2016 17:45

I wish I had Donald Trumps hair though. It is majestic.

Shock
lavenderdoilly · 11/04/2016 17:49

Daisy rather damaged her arguments by saying that The Scots with vote a certain way. I objected to the term and then a few posters including yourself, Helpful, assumed my objection was on pc grounds. Nope, just on Trump grounds.

HelpfulChap · 11/04/2016 17:52

I think Daisy was being backed into a corner. The Stay posters here have mob mentality towards her.

On another thread they basically said anyone that votes Brexit is uneducated and ignorant and that their (Stay) vote should be worth more.

It basically went downhill from there.

lavenderdoilly · 11/04/2016 18:00

Well, for what it's worth, I don't think Leave supporters are ignorant etc etc. I'm for Remain but with my eyes wide open. I assume Leave voters are the same but in reverse. I just can't get past the likely break up of the UK following Brexit.

TheHibernator · 11/04/2016 18:01

If uk leaves EU then Scotland leaves uk. Can't really get past that.

Says who? I'm getting sick of reading comments like this. 55% of Scots voted to REMAIN.

Oh and there is nothing offensive about using the term 'the Scots'

lavenderdoilly · 11/04/2016 18:01

And I don't like the Trumpification (is that even a word!?) of our politics.

lavenderdoilly · 11/04/2016 18:04

55 per cent voted to stay in UK as part of the EU. No fan of Nicola Sturgeon but Brexit would rightly trigger another referendum in Scotland.

HelpfulChap · 11/04/2016 18:05

Fair enough. I don't understand how some people can vote the way they do but I respect their right to do it.

I wish #TeamLurked would do the same.

butteredmuffin · 11/04/2016 18:12

Huge LOL at HelpfulChap trying to cast himself as the reasonable, nice person who respects other people's views and "#TeamLurked" as the bad guys.

You are the one who invented a silly hashtag to describe those you disagree with, and who keeps trying to wind me up by making odd comments about Marx, for no reason that I can fathom.

Grin
TheHibernator · 11/04/2016 18:15

The UK government would have to grant one first, the SNP can't call one and Scots would be voting in a very different referendum this time round with even less facts to go on than last time. My bet is the result would be much the same.

lavenderdoilly · 11/04/2016 18:17

Not read anything to change my position on this thread. Reassure me (with something other than "I've met Scottish people ") that Brexit would not mean the likely break up of the UK and I will look closely at it.

lavenderdoilly · 11/04/2016 18:18

Thanks. I hate the Guardian, for what it's worth.

butteredmuffin · 11/04/2016 18:20

Me too.

lavenderdoilly · 11/04/2016 18:24

The Hibernator, I'd like to see a UK government that would refuse Scottish demands for a second referendum on independence in Scotland after Brexit.

TheHibernator · 11/04/2016 18:26

The English didn't seem too bothered by the possibility of the Scots leaving last time round, why do you seek reassurance now? The general rhetoric on MN during the Scottish referendum was 'well fuck off already', so why the sudden faux concern?

lavenderdoilly · 11/04/2016 18:31

That wasn't my view. And an independent Scotland now means a likely land border with the EU. No idea whether Scotland would join Schengen or if Schengen will survive but the England Scotland border would be a lot more meaty.

lavenderdoilly · 11/04/2016 18:31

Correction: a second land border with the EU.

butteredmuffin · 11/04/2016 18:36

Well I would be very sad to see the Scots leave the UK. I was glad they voted to stay last time, but if they decided to go independent following a Brexit vote, I wouldn't blame them.
