Daisy
You have not posted or identified a singled benefit of leaving. All you have fine is regurgitate gutter journalism designed to sell papers. I have presented the advantages that EU membership has brought to the industries that I have worked in and manufacturing / export in a wider context. Arguments of border control
are invalid as we have as much control now as we would have post exit and the same responsibility to refugees that we have under U.N. charter. You are angry but try presenting a thought out argument of your own instead of unsubstantiated trash. I would welcome any detailed example that you care to bring forward. Chances are you will just fall back on insults to my character.

Itinerary · 08/04/2016 00:14

Daisy you have identified numerous benefits of a Brexit, many in the category of leaving behind negative things about the EU. These count as "benefits" just as much as, for example, making a bit more money which could happen either way.

HelpfulChap · 08/04/2016 05:38

Morning.

Agreed. Daisy has put up dozens of links pointing out the benefits of Brexit. But they dont count apparently unless they are in your own words.

HelpfulChap · 08/04/2016 06:06

Heartening to see the petition against the govt's leaflet campaign added another 25k to 110k overnight and breached the 100k threshold in the process.

AnnaForbes · 08/04/2016 07:20

The majority of French, Germans and Italians want an end to Schengen according to polls last month. Further proof the eu isnt working. It will be interesting to see if their governments listen. I suspect not.

sportinguista · 08/04/2016 07:21

A bit late to the party here. I'm one of the undecided. I am married to an EU national who has been here for around 20 years. Obviously we've discussed the implications either way for us in the event of Britain leaving but neither of us are convinced of each argument. Both seem to have their positives and negatives. I've read over the thread and been unable to really from the arguments get much further on whether one or another has the edge.

So what will convince me that staying in will be great and what is going to be so diificult about leaving? Is it going to be positive in the long run leaving? Is there certain money in saying if we stay we never join Schengen etc?

Chalalala · 08/04/2016 07:55

Morning HelpfulChap. Ok, so you think links replace discussion just fine. You will find dozens and dozens of pro-EU links here:

www.strongerin.co.uk/news

Presumably you have now been convinced by my thoughtful reasoning and numerous detailed examples.

do you see how ridiculous this is?

HelpfulChap · 08/04/2016 08:05

Hi Chalalala

Actually I may have been convinced by the Danish I had from Pret this morning.
Possibly the best thing ever to come out of Europe.

Daisyonthegreen · 08/04/2016 08:11

You have to realise that some Mums don't have the time to do a lot of research ,I merely facilitate or help as juggling baby, home,"the partner" ,the school run is exhausting.I should know.
Some of you may be retired or have no children of yet.
Cut the Mums some slack for goodness sake.

You raise Shengen so it obviously concerns you.
There is absolutely no doubt in my mind we will be "encouraged" to join Shengen if we signal our capitulation in voting Remain.
Therefore if open borders to 500 million other people's worries you then vote Leave.
You asked the question on this specific point, this is my answer.

sportinguista · 08/04/2016 08:23

I've just read through the links in the website you posted Chalala, there wasn't much information in many of them, often just invites to like or share on Facebook and Twitter. Is there anywhere I can get better information to support the points raised on it as I won't make up my mind in that dearth of information. I couldn't book a children's birthday party on so little info. Are we meant to just make up our minds on that?

From experience of EU migration, when my DH came here he had very good terms of employment, these have been eroded hugely since the accession of EE. He is now coming to the position that he will probably be offered redundancy if he does not accept a contract which is worth 3-4 hundred pounds less. Could it be guaranteed that if further countries join that won't be the case again, after all, the cost of living is not getting any lower, despite what it says in the info.

HelpfulChap · 08/04/2016 08:23

After a remain vote, the govt will argue it has been given the mandate to do what it wants regarding Europe.

Daisyonthegreen · 08/04/2016 08:23

Mums here is some stuff from Economists who want to leave the EU,my hubby is an Economist as I have said on a previous post and he definitely wants to leave.
Dip into this when you have time, people forget what an exhausting time it is being a Mum.

My point above from direct experience is why Schengen is of concern. My DH and family has been already directly impacted, we are at the point where there is not much to give in terms of ways of saving money. If this were to be squeezed further we would likely have to leave and rely on the generosity of relatives in DH home country. For me it's difficult to know how to save more.

Daisyonthegreen · 08/04/2016 08:41

Wage compression in my opinion is a direct result of the EU membership. It is not fair on workers here.Should we leave this would be addressed in my opinion.

OP posts:
Chalalala · 08/04/2016 08:41

sorry you clicked sportinguista, as I'm sure you realise I was making a joke-y point with my generic propaganda link...

AnnaForbes · 08/04/2016 08:56

It's good to see the RMT is advising members to vote for brexit to protect workers' rights and break free from the pro-privatisation, 'anti -worker ' EU.

sportinguista · 08/04/2016 09:07

No actually I didn't, and many people who visit that website wouldn't, they would take it at face value, some of them might just vote yes without really doing any research. I'm stunned that it can be put up with few links to give further information and for people to just like on social media.

I want to know more about both sides but am not about to make up my mind with flimsy information. I need to know more about why if we come out our bills could rise and how that might work, because a lot of what pertains to both sides are very big 'mights' . As in things might go this way or that but nobody seems really certain.

I did a long post on this thread, which you might find interesting.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2608488-AIBU-to-ask-if-Lord-Owen-is-right-about-TTIP?watched=1&msgid=60345353#60345353

(I think the long post is on about page 10.)

I've also explained later on in the thread why this: "vote for brexit to protect workers' rights and break free from the pro-privatisation, 'anti -worker ' EU" is nonsense.
