Nothing on here,or am I wrong,I'm a newbie so be patient with me.
Anyhow here goes it's the Referendum on the European Union on the 23 June this year.
I'm voting Leave.
How's about you guys?

These not facts regarding EU membership. Leaving the EU will not impact the actions of sexual predators not will it impact non EU migration or our responsibilities to refugees!

engineersthumb · 05/04/2016 18:36

Or even nor will it - predictive text!

Chalalala · 05/04/2016 18:59

HelpfulChap, you are barking up the wrong tree

a) no one has insulted Brexiters in this thread, so why the constant need to portray yourself as a victim

b) i'm not sure what selfish motivations you're referring to, as pointed out me and others are not threatened by Brexit in terms of immigration. If you're referring to the fact that we are using the sectors we work in as example of sectors that would likely be harmed by a Brexit, well these are valid examples of the practical consequences of a leave vote on important British industries.

And Daisy, posting countless links is no substitute for constructive discussion between intelligent adults. Otherwise we can just post the Leave and Stay campaign Twitter feeds, and be done with this thread.

HelpfulChap · 05/04/2016 20:12

Chala

Maybe not on this thread but many many others.
To be honest I find it amusing. I usually try and guess how long it takes before the usual stuff is wheeled out.

I certainly don't get offended, I'm old enough and ugly enough to take it on the chin.

HelpfulChap · 05/04/2016 20:17

To be honest I flit about between Brexit threads so I may well have got one or more of them mixed up. They do tend to blend after a while.

I'm a bit disappointed that no one has called me a name of some sorts on this one yet, I must be losing my touch.

Chalalala · 05/04/2016 20:34

yes I do get the thread-blending thing ;-)

engineersthumb · 05/04/2016 20:48

Helpful,
I did grin at the knuckle dragging remark... are you a mechanical engineer by chance:)

HelpfulChap · 05/04/2016 20:52

No. But I always admire Engineers. I could watch those huge engineering programmes on TV all day.

I used to be in a Wolf of Wall St type profession but I am in a more sedate occupation now!

SpringingIntoAction · 05/04/2016 21:13

You could be watching James May reassembling a 1957 bakelite phone in BBC 4 right now. I am

AnnaForbes · 05/04/2016 21:34

Leaving the EU will not impact the actions of sexual predators not will it impact non EU migration or our responsibilities to refugees!

Leaving the EU will allow us to break free from the ruling of the ECJ. This is turn will allow us to deport sexual predators along with any other criminal.

Non EU migration is controlled to some extent but as Turkey comes closer to gaining EU accession along with Abania, Serbia, Macedonia and Montevideo, we will be opening our doors to many more millions from the wider world. Also, countries such as Greece and Italy have so far failed to control the flood of immigrants from North Africa, Asia and the ME because they could wave them through to the rest of the EU. On leaving, these people will not be able to eventually (on gaining an EU passport) come to UK.

Responsibilities to refugees? The EU is to centralise the placing of asylum seekers throughout member nations. Since most people seeking asylum in the EU have no right to be here, I think maintaining our own asylum policy can only be a good thing.

SpringingIntoAction · 05/04/2016 21:41

Wow! Anna

There was Helppful, Engineer and I having a nice peaceful chat about the joys of reassembling Bakelite phones and you launch into a rant about sexual predators. Smile

Posted on the wrong thread?

AnnaForbes · 05/04/2016 21:43

I'll get my coat.
Grin

Daisyonthegreen · 05/04/2016 22:08

We should have our own policies,I agree with you.
We can only be in charge of our own rules on exiting the monstrosity that the EU has become.
Yes in the beginning it was a Trading thing between 9 countries,it has now blossomed into a ghastly undemocratic monolith we will be well out of.

For your information.
We cannot put up with this behaviour,we must sort this out and can only do so by securing our borders with exemplary officials and checking.
Our Government ,any countries Government owes it to its people to protect them.
The "dead hand" of the EU hampers this in many ways.
On leaving the EU we would have £350 million a WEEK to help do this. That is the amount that we pay per WEEK to the EU.
To say nothing can happen to stop sexual assaults ,especially said by a male is despicable.
Plus we have no responsibility to refugees who want to sexually assault us let's be perfectly clear on that.

More ridiculousness from the EU.
It's like a perverse ridiculous nightmare.
Mums on here unite and vote leave if you have any thoughts for this country and your children.

engineersthumb · 05/04/2016 22:57

We can't hope to take a "pull the draw bridge up" approach. The world is an ever smaller place both by trade and travel.
It's not the ECJ that delays removal of illegal migrants, The most common reason is waiting for travel documents and confirmation from a suspected country of origin when the person has destroyed them. Leaving the EU will actually make this issue worse as existing arrangements are I place to assist.
People are very unlikely to come to the UK on obtaining a passport from another eu country as this is likley to take 5-10 years and by that time most people are settled. We are outside Schengan anyway so we can check and bar individuals where needed. To improve our security we need to work together.

Daisyonthegreen · 05/04/2016 23:13

No you are incorrect, pressure will be brought to bear on us should we be mad enough to vote Remain to sign up to Shengen,( that is borderless movement)on voting Remain we will signal our utter capitulation to EU diktats.
Mrs Merkle who lets face it dictates to the EU needs to offload a lot of people and we along with others will be expected to oblige and take them in their thousands.
This will be fast tracked to save the political careers of German politicians whose people are justifiably up in arms about the mass immigration foisted upon them.
You are extremely naieve to imagine otherwise.
The vote to leave is the most logical safe option.
We need to take charge of our own country that is obvious.

OP posts:
engineersthumb · 06/04/2016 05:37

Daisy,
There is absolutely no suggestion of the UK being brought into Schengan. What you have written is interesting as it shows your real concern is large scale settelment of migrants from syria/iraq. However, the UK is clearly not part of a quota agreement nor part of Schengan. I think "EU dictate" is a misnomer just like "Red Tape" there is a clear regulatory and legal framework which would require treaty change to alter. Merkel's career is probably over, though there is no clear successor in her party at the moment and the CDU is likley to remain the largest coalition party. Either way her future will not be derrmined by UK migration policy that is already defined and not controlled by the EU. We also must not disregard our own responsibilities to true refugee under U.N. agreements.

engineersthumb · 06/04/2016 05:46

Daisy
I'm a parents and strongly believe that remaining in the UK is critical to my child's future. So your "mums unite" is a little daft. What we should be doing is thinking clearly about what being in or out does mean for our country and not about concerns not connected to membership as some form of ridiculous protest.

HelpfulChap · 06/04/2016 05:51

You are up early Engineer.

I posted at 5.25am. That's 1-0 to the Brexit early birds. Wink

engineersthumb · 06/04/2016 06:10

Pre 6am is the best part of the day:)

Chalalala · 06/04/2016 08:57

Plus we have no responsibility to refugees who want to sexually assault us let's be perfectly clear on that.

as far as I'm aware the UK is still a signatory of the 1951 UN refugee convention, and therefore does have a responsibility to refugees. How do you suggest we screen the genuine refugees who "want to sexually assault us"?

HelpfulChap · 06/04/2016 09:27

If you can't screen them on the way on, you can at least deport those that treat women as meat. Or is that against their human rights.

Always very frustrating when you read that a serial rapist cannot be deported because someone in his home country might be a bit beastly to him.

Chalalala · 06/04/2016 09:52

I'll admit I'm not up to date on my human rights law, no idea what the answer is here!

the difficult thing to wrap one's head around is that it's fully possible to be both a victim of horrific human rights abuse, and also a horrible abuser/rapist/etc at the same time. We naturally want victims to be simply victims and 'deserving' of our help, but life is more complicated than that.

as a mother (this one's for you daisy), what I find unbearable is seeing the children refugees. It absolutely breaks my heart, because it could be my girls in those camps and boats, if I hadn't been lucky enough to be born on the right side of the fence. And I just don't know what to do to help, apart from giving what I can to charities. I don't even know what the right political answer is.

anyway - none of this is directly related to the EU discussion, the problem will still be there with or without Brexit.

HelpfulChap · 06/04/2016 10:00

My first instinct to do as much as possible to safeguard British women and children. I'm my opinion rapists and sex offenders, particularly from overseas, are not worthy of our protection.
