Anyhow here goes it's the Referendum on the European Union on the 23 June this year.

Educate yourself on the links I have posted. You have too much of a negative simplistic view.
There really are some deluded fools on here.

Trying to close down discussion by insinuating people are ill-informed, uneducated or deluded is really not an effective argument. In fact, it's about as convincing as your Daily Express/Mail links.

The Brexiters are really scraping the barrel on this thread. They're not interested in engaging in a proper discussion and are just hurling insults at people who disagree or are undecided. It's like being in a playground. I feel embarrassed for them.

WidowWadman · 22/03/2016 17:53

Andyhall who has made excuses for terrorists? Pointing out that refugees/migrants who are fleeing from them can't be blamed for terrorism is not apologist

Limer · 22/03/2016 18:12

Oh, is it eight years to get German citizenship? That’s fine then! Because by 2024, the UK will have at least two-and-a-half million more EU citizens living here anyway (going by current rates of net migration of 330,000 a year), plus a few hundred thousand more illegal immigrants. Not to mention all the babies those new arrivals will have produced.

By 2024 we’ll have built absolutely loads of new housing, schools, hospitals, roads, railways, power stations, reservoirs, gas pipelines, all the rest of the infrastructure – we can just use that spare money that we’ve been hiding under the bed. We can use some more of that spare money to allow the extra people to take advantage of our much-envied NHS, our wonderful schools and our generous benefit system. There’ll be tons of new jobs for anyone who wants one, and we can just build over all our floodplains, farmland and beauty spots. A plan with no drawbacks!

LEAVE.

WidowWadman · 22/03/2016 18:46

Limer you're language is nasty and dehumanising, talking about people who mlove to Britain and build a life here (which includes starting a family) and contribute through their work, their taxes etc just as much and in many cases more than those who happen to be born here as if they're invaders.

I doubt that a lot of people will go through the German citizenship path just to obtain the right to move to the UK. So your paranoia is unfounded.

Chalalala · 22/03/2016 19:02

Reading some posts here you would think the war in Syria is really a giant plot hatched by nasty wannabe rapists who just want to come steal British jobs...

The overwhelming majority are regular people who are just trying to protect their families by fleeing destruction and death. Have some humanity for goodness sake.

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 22/03/2016 19:08

I'm so confused over what to vote. I've been so staunchly IN all the way. Supporter of free movement between countries, supporter of immigration, supporter of taking in as many refugees as necessary.

My kneejerk reaction to today's events have surprised me but instantly I'm inclined to vote Leave. I feel very uncomfortable with it - I hate the thought that I'm on the same side as UKIP and several prominent dickhead Tories - but I don't know what else we can do. I'm not naive enough to think it's a one-stop solution to terrorism but something has to give.

RockUnit · 22/03/2016 19:13

Ovaries there are all kinds of people in favour of Brexit, with all kinds of political views, and the same goes for the "stay" campaign. It's not about personalities or party politics, but all the wider issues. There are left-wing arguments for Brexit, it's not just a right-wing thing.

WidowWadman · 22/03/2016 19:16

Ovaries how would leaving the EU make the UK any safer? I don't understand this reaction to today's events. I moved to the UK 2 weeks after the London bombings. Which were carried out by home grown terrorists. As Britain isn't part of Schengen anyway, leaving the EU can't really increase the control over British borders. So it won't change anything of the perceived risks. The EU is not to blame for radicalisation and Islamism.

RockUnit · 22/03/2016 19:17

the Brexit campaign is starting to show it's true colours

The Brexit campaign is supported by all kinds of people around the UK, who all have their own balance of reasons why it would be a good thing. It's not just one or two people on this particular thread, so generalising isn't accurate or helpful.

Chalalala · 22/03/2016 19:39

That's actually true, RockUnit.

Some of the nastier views expressed on this thread are textbook UKIP propaganda. There are also economic and political reasons to advocate Brexit that I don't agree with, but can respect.

Unfortunately, most of those expressed on this thread have been from the, shall we say, UKIP tendency...

And quite a few from the, shall we say, No Borders tendency...

RockUnit · 22/03/2016 20:46

Thanks Chalalala and Hovercraft Smile

harrasseddotcom · 22/03/2016 20:46

Doesnt the thought of Tory rule without hindrance from the EU not scare all the non Tory voters to death? Just the little things, like the working hours directive for example. Without that, then Im quite positive the Torys would be pushing 100 hour weeks as the norm or anyone not willing to work ridiculous amounts of hours as workshy and unworthy. Tbh i have just a smidgen more faith that the EU are a bit more humane than the Torys.

Limer · 22/03/2016 20:52

LEAVE=Tory (Boris)
STAY=Tory (Cameron)

The Tories will win either way.

AnnaForbes · 22/03/2016 21:00

I hate the thought that I'm on the same side as UKIP and several prominent dickhead Tories Ovaries, there are some pretty despicable people on the Remain side too. Tony Blair has done endless damage both here and overseas. He is rotten to the core. And he supports Remain. Take the personalities out of it, the big question is do you or dont you want to be ruled by Brussels?

engineersthumb · 22/03/2016 21:01

Perhaps a moment of calm is called for on regard of today's events. Whilst my experience firmly tells me we are better off in the EU I accept others will hold different opinions. The most important message to send to the perpetrators of the Brussels attacks is "You will not succeed". The discussion you see here and elsewhere is not a sign of your tactics working, it is a demonstration that liberal democracy and the open discussion enables shall endure.

Limer · 22/03/2016 21:04

Well said Anna

I'm encouraged that the EU referendum, unlike all our other elections, is clearly not a political choice. People can think for themselves and make a decision without being swayed by the political colours of each side.

AnnaForbes · 22/03/2016 21:19

perhaps you could tell these people Engineers.

engineersthumb · 22/03/2016 21:25

We have never been ruled from Brussels. There is a lot to gain from being part of a wider ecconomic and political union. Yes there are issues but the closer we come together the stronger we become. Common policy evening out the differences between countries not only helps industry, as I've seen but long term should create a fairer more equal society.

Andyhall · 23/03/2016 02:48

Keep feeding the crocodiles.

When all is said and done, the fact is we are not in charge of our own country as it stands at present.Hence a vote to Leave is the best option in my opinion.

OP posts:
Chalalala · 23/03/2016 18:02

yeah because Boris is a completely unbiased source with no personal interests at stake in this referendum snort

also, your dramatic (and incredibly vague) slogans don't count as arguments.

WidowWadman · 23/03/2016 18:19

Using a paper that's been campaigning for Brexit for ages is a bit pointless, isn't it? As it were, Boris has been completely taken apart in his hearing. He doesn't have a clue.

Andyhall · 23/03/2016 22:23

Portsmouth council in a motion have voted that the city will be better served by leaving the European union.
More and more people and political institutions are waking up and realising that the Eu only benefits those with vested interests.
Oddschecker reports that the odds on brexit are shortening as more people see through the lies and deceptions of the remain spindoctors who infect every forum and messages board in the uk.
A vote to leave means a safer and prosperous uk where democracy really counts
A vote to remain will leave this country a much more dangerous place for your children and grandchildren with poorer opportunities and a worthless vote.
