This is a place where anyone dealing with elderly parents/relatives/friends can rant, vent, scream into the void.

There is no judgement just understanding, support and good advice.

Mum finally died this morning - I got a call from the home at 7am saying that her breathing was getting worse, so I was with her at the end. It was as peaceful as the previous 7 days have been. She pulled a face like she’d stubbed a toe, gave a sigh and that was it.

now in that weird anticlimax phase where you spend a lot of time waiting - at the moment for the GP to certify death.

So sorry for your loss funnelfan. May your Mum rest in peace.

By the way, it seems appointments to register deaths go very quickly. I was told to wait a couple of hours from hearing the necessary paperwork had come through before booking, but found very few appointments left and had to get up at an unholy hour as a result. I'd say book as soon as you can, therefore:/

I found the register office people very helpful. The local office to my DAunts place of death was hundreds of miles away so they helped me move the appointment to my local one. They do book up quickly.

Thanks everyone. I can’t make an appointment at the registry office until the medical examiner get the paperwork from the GP - apparently they will ring me on Monday and then I get to arrange an appointment. What with general delays and school holidays I think I’ll be fortunate if I get an appointment to register next week. The undertaker did say that the 5 day deadline could be a bit of a “guideline rather than rule” in mums local area.

I don’t know anyone who has managed it within the five days in the last
few years!
