Why can't i sit in on some of my child's class?

My son is in Y2 Primary, and there was an issue about his "bad behaviour" raised with me by the teacher. I am aware of something wrong in the way he reacts to school (i think perhaps because he is a spirited child i.e. very energetic, persistent, loud, and likes to do his own thing!) and in a way i am glad the teacher raised this with me.

I asked the teacher if I could spend a morning observing him in class as I want to get a feel for it e.g. does he find it hard to sit still (he does at home), and she was reluctant, preferring to have a discussion only.

I am puzzled why teachers don't like a parent visiting their classroom when they have a concern about how their child is in class.

Does anyone shed any light on why this is?

(p.s. If i were a teacher it wouldn't bother me if a parent wanted to do this).

Oi, I am a good girl! I'm not meeeeaaaaannnn! Honest Miss!. I am not even spirited TBH Maybe I need a glass of wine, then I might be a more spirited instead.

As a teacher, I would be happy for a parent to observe their child's behaviour in class. But that's a personal choice, she is under no obligation - the teacher does not work for you, she works to give your child and 29 others a good education, in many senses of the word.

However, if you showed any of the attitude and rudeness you've shown to posters here tonight to me, you would most certainly not be welcome in my classroom.

You need to work with your child's teacher to help your child - difficult to do if you're convinced she works for you.

Does my dusbin man work for me? Do policemen work for me.

Sure. They work FOR me, but I am not their employer and they don't answer to me.

mumblechum · 22/09/2009 21:19

Exactly! I thought rather well crafted troll in the OP, all that "high spirited" stuff.

Sorry, I have been another unhelpful sniggerer on this thread but my BratAlert was activated from the beginning.

Lawyers have heartsink clients too. The ones who ring all the time chasing but as soon as something actually happens on their file they then don't forward you their written instructions/copies of much needed documents for six weeks +.

Hulababy · 22/09/2009 21:20

AFAIK fleetwoodmac is def not a troll. Has a fair few other posts on MN from recent months.

BitOfFun · 22/09/2009 21:20

I think it would be great if the police took a leaf out of this collaborative approach book- they could patiently explain to criminals what they are doing wrong, and perhaps offer them some loving restraint? That might work.
