Winchester College Entry 2025 - results

Anyone knows when do we expect results to be sent out?
My son had an interview in mid January and I’m excited to hear from them.
Don’t want to chase the school 😉 so I was wondering for any advice here

@PerSeer approximately 5 will be rejected in that particular house where my son was interviewed. As I was told by the housemaster. Not 15. As this will not leave anyone on the waitlist.
I specifically asked what is the procedure. And this is what I was told.
I also wondered but as you mentioned 12 will get a place at the house, 2 I guess will sit for the election (from each house applied). Some will get offered GP and the rest will be waitlisted…not all offers are being accepted.

At Eton for comparison they offered 80 conditional places + on 50 WL.
40-50% from WL will possibly get a place as they described in the email to us based on past experience. So they do over offer a bit.

I’m just repeating what I was told after the interview and trying to be positive towards all of you / us who are waiting for the results.

In our case DS applied for a General Place from day one as we were unable to visit. Was wondering if anyone knows whether the numbers/odds are the same or worse for this "category" . . on the downside you don't have a House Master championing you, zero opportunity for a boy to click with a House Master ... on the upside the school has the flexibility of placing you in a House of their choosing based on supply / demand for that year.

Even if they had 50% more stage 1 applicants, wouldn't they have simply used the ISEB score to cull screen more out at stage 1, so the school was left with roughly the same number of stage 2 boys to be interviewed (for 1 hour each) and the same amount of workload for the House Masters (with day jobs). Anecdotally a from talking to parents a number of boys at our prep school have been knocked out at stage 1. So as one parent said keep the faith

I don’t think the general place applicants have a lower chance of getting a place than the ones interviewed by HMs…. From what I heard, HMs do not make any offers based on their interviews until after they have had a meeting with the registrar who will ask HMs to also offer places to the candidates from his list that have “ made the cut” so to speak.

I think what I meant to say is … there is some type of group discussion about the candidates before the decisions are made … and not just solely by the HMs

So the Registrar has the final word… no surprises there?

I know these schools try to suggest 2-3 housemasters that suit the child best and then the DC interviews with one for Winchester and up to 3 for Eton. However, the whole process is time consuming for parents, children and the school. Don’t they offer online interviews as an alternative these days?

Our prep headmaster told us (having spoken to registrar from WinColl) that they are sending the results next week (after this bank holiday Monday). Maybe everyone knew this already - I didn't.

@parent1709 My ds is at Wincoll and in his final year. He applied only to Wincoll, as it seemed like the ideal school. We didn't visit or apply to Eton. They are pretty different, so I find the idea that everyone applies to both quite odd.

Good luck to everyone waiting. We are also waiting on Eton , DS will start at a London Grammar school in September so we are really undecided at the moment.It may be a difficult decision to leave if he thriving there.

I’m so excited that I cannot type. Our prep school HM is so formal that I’m not sure if he’d share the outcome with us day before 😅
Hopefully we all hear / get positive outcome 🙏

We received an offer to our choice of house today but I’m unsure if we will accept @yukkim .There will be lots of other parents in the same position, some at our school are still waiting for Eton before they decide. We are in London and quite a few ( including us) also received offers from Queen Elizabeth Barnet ( a Grammar School) for year for year 7. I would say the majority on the reserve list at Winchester will get a place, best of luck to you.
