Christ do teachers ever stop moaning?

I'm sorry you experienced trauma, and what sounds like mental ill-health after.

However, your experience isn't everyone's.

Do you believe in bipolar disorder? Schizophrenia? Dementia? Severe catatonic depression? Psychosis?

I'm sorry you had a terrible thing happen. You're still ignorant.

No it wasn't a mental health issue at all. It was a normal reaction.

If something good happens to us and we get excited and are on a high why do we not label that as a disorder? Why is only a bad response a disorder? Both are surely natural responses to external experiences.

I'm sure you think I am, whereas I think the same about you.

@WeeWillyWinkie9
I* *am sorry about what happened to you.

I said people have normal responses, not that no one has any responses.

Sometimes people, including children, don't have reponses others would consider "normal'. At all.
What do you do then?
Like a pp I suspect you have little experience of these sorts of conditions.

fairypeasant · 04/02/2023 20:45

You've never seen someone manic and ill with it.

I really hope you're not a teacher.

This is what I mean, when you say it isn't normal you are stigmatising and saying they are abnormal. It isn't abnormal to be scared about getting raped again is is pretty rational to have that fear.

I have lots of experience of normal reactions thank you.

Not really, it is a term that people use and are familiar with. I also used the word anxiety which is something I do not believe in but I know it is a commonly used term. It helps others understand as I wouldn't give it any label at all.

No, having mental health is a good thing, in the same way as having physical health is a good thing. I would worry about someone who said they didn't have mental health.

People are perfectly familiar with terms such as "mental illness" or "mental ill-health".

I wasn't talking about youŕ fears as I think you know.
I'm going to follow a pp's advice and leave this ridiculous conversation now too. I don't think you're a real teacher. I certainly hope not.

But you were and you were talking about how my response was abnormal. It wasn't. Being raped is f*ing horrific and so it stands to reason that I would react in some way, that is normal given the circumstances.

Do you think a teacher has to believe in God to teach RE?

I don't have any mental health issues thank you, I have responses to experiences that are normal. And yes we all know where those mental illness or mental health labels words have changed over time. Same meaning, a bit softer around the edges.

They will not be stigmatised by me, that will happen when someone says they are disordered and not normal as you wish to label them as. Imagine calling a child 'not normal'. That is wrong.

I am not thick thank you. Nice of you to call someone names because you can't understand there are different theories to mental health and yours is the only way or else all other people are thick.

I am a teacher. Sadly you think that Christians can't teach Muslim children and everyone must think the same as you. I am not ignorant, you sadly are. There is a child in my class who I give up every dinner and break to help because I care. Shame you don't do that for kids and leave them to struggle and call them not normal. You should be ashamed of yourself.

What about all the other kids that need help if you spend dinner and break with this child? I’m sure there are many others with ‘responses to experiences’ that need help.

You’re a joke.

My post for deleted for laughing at this poster. I'm not sure why laughing is against talk guidelines. Clearly, this poster is taking the Michael, and laughter is the only response.

Ah the irony on here is laughable. We all help those with mental health we don't stigmatise.

Look this person is thinking differently so....
must be mentally ill
clearly thick
not safe to be around kids
will hurt kids
doesn't have normal thoughts or a rational brain

we must laugh at her because she doesn't confirm to normal thinking!!
This thread is the epitome of stigmatising!!

And some of us here parent children with anxiety disorder. And finding that teachers are snidey about "anxiety" and saying it's just worry is shitty for us and our kids, and brings the profession into disrepute.

Yeah, what an awful thread.

Some of the things teachers have blamed me as a parent for:

Kid with sensory issues apparently has these diagnosed sensory issues because "I must be an anxious parent." 🤣🤣🤣 He can't stand the horrible, uncomfortable uniform because "his mother must just discipline him and tell him he doesn't have a choice".

Autistic kid is apparently "fine" and not autistic because he masks at school, so school refusing and meltdowns at home must be "a parenting issue".

Many teachers are wonderful. Many are not. Like in any profession. Many parents are very reasonable and try to work with schools. Some, of course, are not.

Not really sure what you hope such a divisive thread will achieve.
