I’ll start. ALL MENTAL HEALTH. Our fault.
all lost items - our fault.

OP posts:
Itstarts · 31/01/2023 20:40

Not acting like an excitable puppy.

Previous teacher was a fresh, bouncy NQT and I wasn't bouncy enough apparently. Actual written complaint to the head.

CaptainMyCaptain · 31/01/2023 20:43

I gave the children head lice apparently.

SueVineer · 31/01/2023 20:45

Not doing their jobs.

historygeek · 31/01/2023 20:53

There was someone on here the other day blaming schools because she couldn't change a tyre....

MrsMikeDrop · 31/01/2023 20:58

Not understanding how to change a tyre (recent thread) 🙄

SheSeemsToHaveAnInvisibleTouch · 31/01/2023 21:02

Can I ask OP, and all you teachers on this thread. Would you like to be able to properly clamp down on behaviour? Genuine question, I'm interested. If you could actually bring your classes into line, kinda zero tolerance like the old days, do you think things would be better?

fairypeasant · 31/01/2023 21:06

Zero tolerance like the old days- so child abuse and failing a significant proportion of children, who through no fault of their own, can't "behave" even under threat of violence from adults?

I know we're short of teachers, but I hope anyone who feels that way gets out of teaching asap.

I'm not sure I speak for the other teachers on the thread (with their concerning comments about anxiety), but I wouldn't.

Neurodiversity is a thing and schools that accept that "being in line" isn't the target, are good schools, in my opinion.

Pinkflipflop85 · 31/01/2023 21:07

If behaviour was better then of course things would be better. We could actually spend time teaching properly.

It is very unlikely to improve though, as too many parents won't take responsibility for their children or can't see the problem with their behaviour.

Pinkflipflop85 · 31/01/2023 21:08

It's the constant low level disruption and lack of respect that is causing the problem.

I hear you completely and feel for you

SheSeemsToHaveAnInvisibleTouch · 31/01/2023 21:14

I have no idea why so many parents can't see that they are breeding a whole new generation of fuckwits.

SheSeemsToHaveAnInvisibleTouch · 31/01/2023 21:16

@fairypeasant you've drawn your own conclusion there. I never once mentioned that an adult should threaten a child with violence. Jesus Christ 🙄

fairypeasant · 31/01/2023 21:22

That's how things were done "zero tolerance" back in the "good old days".

There has never been a golden time of schools meeting all children's needs, allowing all children to meet their potential, with zero tolerance for behaviour.

Which old days ARE you meaning?

Old days of borstals? Old days of what exactly?

saraclara · 31/01/2023 21:24

For having (a very faint, after having lived in the south for 45 years) east midlands accent. I didn't 'talk properly'.

SheSeemsToHaveAnInvisibleTouch · 31/01/2023 21:24

When I went to school in the 80s/90s no shit was taken from teachers.

I honestly believe that the lunatics run the asylum these days, together with shitty attitudes from parents I really feel for teachers.

fairypeasant · 31/01/2023 21:26

And corporal punishment was outlawed when exactly?

You want a return to child abuse as education.

ScabbyHorse · 31/01/2023 21:31

Not teaching them how to tie shoe laces

Sugargliderwombat · 31/01/2023 21:32

That parents evenings were on zoom.

Their child had to have a test when they had covid symptoms.

They weren't a key worker so their child couldn't come to school.

A midday supervisor asked their child to finish their yoghurt before going to the playground (official complaint for this one!).

Don't be silly. Nobody is suggesting that. What I'm sure the teachers and other school staff here would like is to have a class of children who, as far as they can given their age and any neurodiversity, sit still and listen, try their best, answer questions, do the work they're set without messing about and distracting other children, don't talk when they're supposed to be working quietly or listening, don't bully other children, don't do stupid dangerous things, make an effort to keep hold of their belongings, do their homework on time, etc etc.

And when problems arise with any of the above, schools should be able to count on support from parents so that the child learns from both school staff and home that their behaviour is unacceptable and has to change.

Spectre8 · 31/01/2023 21:43

Can teachers please just teach my kids everything and basically raise them for me. Thank you!!! 😝

Patineur · 31/01/2023 21:43

Does this include things parents have blamed teachers for entirely validly? Like the teacher who swore blind that DD hadn't handed in her homework even though the rest of the class had seen her do so and DD was always extremely conscientious about homework; so DD had to redo it, only for the original version to be handed back to her by the teacher with no hint of an apology.

Or the teacher who told me that you can't get an EHC Plan in primary school?

Or the games teacher who made DS play with a broken foot?

fairypeasant · 31/01/2023 21:45

I think this is a really nasty thread, pitting teachers against parents, and sneary about mental illness in children.

Patineur · 31/01/2023 21:45

Then there was the teacher who offered treats to children with 100% attendance. Tough luck on DS's friend having regular cancer treatment, but teacher wouldn't allow any excuses.
