Hello everybody, starting a thread for parents with children who have applied for 10+ this year.

Have you every heard about anyone successfully defer their Trinity 10+ offer to an year 7 entry? I am keen to know if this is negotiable.

Asking this because I have heared a lot of positive comments about Wilson's school recently, and there is some uncertainty about my hunsband's job... If the deferral is possible, I will have my son try Wilson's at the beginning of year 6 and made the final decision by the end of year 6.

Anyinformation, please share with me. Thank you!

It is generally accepted you reapply unless you applied for a deferred place initially

Thank you all for your kind reply.
I know a mom sent his boy to Trinity at year 6 and then decided to move him to Wilson's after two terms. Seems she wasted one term's tuition fee and the school wasn't very happy🙄That is what I am trying to avoid.

@pamZg If this information helps you, I know someone who got accepted into whitgift and trinity 10+ a couple of years ago and rejected the offers as they wanted to apply to Wilson's. They contemplated accepting and applying for grammars anyway, but they decided against it as they wanted their DS to stay focussed on 11+ exam prep. Her son sat the 11+ for the grammars and again for independents. He was accepted again and got an offer of an 11+ scholarship too from one independent school. He opted for Wilson's in the end and their son is happy and doing well there now. My point is, if you reject a 10+ offer, don't worry that it ruins the chances of 11+ applications for whitgift or trinity. I think with current cost of living issues, schools appreciate concerns over costs of private schools. Just see what happens with the interview. I'm sure it will all work out.

I am glad you are feeling ok, there is no reason not to in my opinion. It’s early days, hopefully you will get your invite very soon. I truly believe the order of receiving/attending the interview has no impact on the final outcome. Good luck!

No, we haven’t applied for any scholarships. As your son is already booked for the interview you could ring the school and ask them about the sport scholarship day.

JustTryingouthere · 11/01/2023 15:03

Hi,

We sat 11+ last year and DS now goes to Whitgift.

See below my observations on some of the questions poised:

Interview Invitation, no real pattern, and not based on how you did on score;

Some interview where done online and in person (not just international families online)

Parent Interview, they ask you can you afford it (in nicer terms) they say they expect you to be at the School until the end (if that’s not your intent, just nod a smile and say yes)

Asked, why did you choose Whitgift - I knew website inside out and had been tracking school so answer was in depth and not just because…

Asked why son wanted to go Whitgift

My Son interview;

had to read a piece of poetry and they asked him about it.

this was not consistent with all his friends, so I advised that not all boys interviews are the same so don’t read in to it! All his friends got places and not all spoke about poetry etc

Bargaining for Places:

DONT do it, make calls or mention other schools. Whatever your plan just don’t talk about it!

If you get a place I don’t believe that you can defer because of wanting to sit for Grammar - they want boys who want to come to the school and not leave within the year as it means another child misses out who wanted the place.

Someone I know tried to bargain as they had several offers - it didn’t work and that’s all I will say about that! The outcome was (read between lines)

Best of luck

The system is not uniform at this stage so don’t compare your child to anyone else or what friends say! Trust me when I say people experiences are different

Daydreamscometrue · 11/01/2023 15:15

@JustTryingouthere this is very helpful thanks. We're still waiting to hear for 11 plus. Obviously they say that the emails are sent in batches so maybe it's based on group number.

Manogna · 11/01/2023 15:15

I know this group is for 11+, but we have applied for Deferred Entry @13+. It is the same process though. Do we have anyone in the group who has heard back with the result?

Benchisen · 11/01/2023 16:30

@Manogna, not sure whether you're asking for Trinity or Whitgift, but DS sat for Trinity 13+ direct (i.e. non-deferred) entry and we heard back from them on Monday. I don't know whether the deferred entry 13+ process is running to the same time-frame though.

Manogna · 11/01/2023 16:48

Thank you. it's for Trinity too. I think the process for 11+ and deferred 13+ is the same. I am guessing they would push the interviews of 13+ into Feb and prioritise 11+ first. Pure guess though

AC7001 · 11/01/2023 18:31

Has anyone received Trinity 11+ interview invitation yet?

I'm feeling nervous too as we haven't heard from Whitgift. DS was group J. How about yours?

You're waiting too? He did get an interview at KGS yes. I hope so for Whitgift! It's a lovely school and it would be great to have an opportunity to see it again.
