Hello everybody, starting a thread for parents with children who have applied for 10+ this year.

My son got the interview email from trinity yesterday 9th Jan ( 10 plus) . The interviews are being held on 13th Jan. He has done very well that he is also being considered for Academic scholarship. But anyways it was a nice piece of news to have received yesterday. Good luck to all who received the interview call.

Just fantastic news! Well done to your DS! The hard work clearly paid off! Do you know who will be interviewing?

I think it will be with the head master. School have said nothing to prepare for the interview. We are taking it easy - Son has taken day off at school. Asked him to do his best.

Lexus1979 · 11/01/2023 00:04

@user1473290348 Thank you ! Did your DS also write the exam ?

user1473290348 · 11/01/2023 00:14

My son passed Trinity. Still waiting to hear about next steps.

We are also waiting to hear about Whitgift. Did your DS also apply to Whitgift?

I just got off the phone to a school mum and her DS also has an interview on Friday at Trinity. I'm so happy for her. Hers is in the afternoon. I wonder how many get called for an academic scholarship. Good luck!

From (very old) experience and reading these threads over the years, interview questions might include actual exam type questions, general questions about themselves (DS2 was very forthcoming about his faults at Whitgift apparently!), hobbies, maybe touch on current affairs...

The interviews look for the intelligence behind the exam results I think. The "raw talent" as it were. They are very used to dealing with boys of every level of confidence so your sons are in safe hands. It won't be a inquisition.

Thank you so much SoupDragon. That's really helpful!

Just to say that I have nothing to do with the schools or the exam process, I'm just looking at it all with the benefit of hindsight!

AC7001 · 11/01/2023 10:09

Whitgift 11+ interview emails are out.

pankajbh · 11/01/2023 10:31

No news on Whitgift 10+ yet today !!!😞

PamZg · 11/01/2023 10:59

Have you every heard about anyone successfully defer their Trinity 10+ offer to an year 7 entry? I am keen to know if this is negotiable.

Asking this because I have heared a lot of positive comments about Wilson's school recently, and there is some uncertainty about my hunsband's job... If the deferral is possible, I will have my son try Wilson's at the beginning of year 6 and made the final decision by the end of year 6.

Anyinformation, please share with me. Thank you!

Whitgift 11+ interview emails are out.

Do you know if that is for those at the first half of the alphabet?

I've heard that it is 100% not possible. Some prep school heads have tried hard to campaign for it as they end up with vacancies in Y6 which can be hard to fill at that stage.

Thank you VickiMent, great to know. I was wondering if I talk to Trinity before they sending out all the offers, will that be possible? Simply don't want go through this process again next year.

Daydreamscometrue · 11/01/2023 11:21

@AC7001 no news for us at 11 plus. Was it a scholarship?

user1473290348 · 11/01/2023 11:23

@AC7001- hope good news for you and your son!

I haven't heard of deferring before PamZg but I guess you don't ask, you don't get! Have you applied for other schools aside from Trinity and Whitgift? If so, maybe test that question with on school and see their reaction first!

My husband spoke with Trinity on the phone before we applied about whether we could defer and they said no but you are welcome to reapply for 11+ if you receive an offer for 10+. Some other schools won't let you reapply if you turn down an offer.

I guess not, unless (for our case) it is in the reverse order.

VickiMent · 11/01/2023 11:29

@PamZg you could send him there and still take the 11+. Asking before the offers come out would surely count against you getting an offer.

If you are worried about finances they would be more favourable to discuss a bursary than keeping your options open for other schools.

No. Just a normal 20-25 minutes interview.

Thank you all for your kind reply.
I know a mom sent his boy to Trinity at year 6 and then decided to move him to Wilson's after two terms. Seems she wasted one term's tuition fee and the school wasn't very happy🙄That is what I am trying to avoid.

pankajbh · 11/01/2023 12:12

Whitgift 10+ .. got interview mail just now.. phew..

AC7001 · 11/01/2023 12:30
