Hello everybody, starting a thread for parents with children who have applied for 10+ this year.

FYI at Trinity around 170 sat the exam and 100 are being interviewed for 75 offers. So fairly good odds although 25% will still not get offers which also feels high!

Is that 11+?

Seemed many more than 170 were there for the exam, but maybe 13+ and 10+ were there too.

170 seems a surprisingly low number.

drizzledon · 21/01/2023 20:34

Sorry this was for 10+

user1473290348 · 21/01/2023 23:00

Thanks for sharing @drizzledon

My DS had the Whitgift 10+ interview today, the whole process was a very positive experience, the school is amazing.
DS had Maths, English and a History question ( he said these were his favourite subjects) and then a general chat.
We were asked if we think he is ready for the move and then a chat about Drama ( DS loves theatre).
We were told about his performance on the test without asking. Not definite percentage but “high eighties”, “high top tens”(that was for the critical thinking) etc.
The interviewer explained it’s not just about numbers, they are looking into individual areas ( could be an outstanding writing, excellent comprehension or outstanding problem solving skills etc and then the child as a person.
DS was happy and so were we.
The children who were helping today were all super smart, friendly and most importantly all said they are very happy with their school….

Whitgift 10+
Similar experience here as @London2007 . We had our interview today. Great experience overall. DS really loved it. They asked him about general questions about likes and dislikes.
We were also told about the performance. Not exact rank or marks.
We were asked about his commute and yes, if he is ready to move...
The parent's and children helping us settle were really amazing and calmed our nerves .
Now waiting for D-Day 10th Feb

That's great @pankajbh and @London2007 . Did they indicate whether your sons are in potential running for an academic scholarship?

No mention of scholarships and we didn’t ask.

We didn't ask either. I guess we will see what happens on offer day! I'm feeling so much more relaxed now that all the rounds are over. Hope it lasts and the anxiety won't return before results are announced!

Good luck all! Hope everybody gets their first choice!

Hello all. Does anybody know if all 10+ interviews have been completed at Trinity? And out of curiosity, is every child interviewed by Mr Price or Mr Tim?

OP posts:
Daydreamscometrue · 25/01/2023 17:49

Have all interviews for 11 plus at Whitgift finished?

user1473290348 · 25/01/2023 17:56

@Daydreamscometrue has your DS had his interview?

All- does anyone know how many scholarships Trinity and Whitgift actually award to 10+ (and 11+) and what the split is between academic, sports, music etc ?

In addition to user's question.. For Whitgift 10+, what happens when someone with a scholarship rejects the offer. Does the scholarship money goes back to the pool and assigned to those who accepts or is wiped off from the offers?

Daydreamscometrue · 25/01/2023 18:09

Yes he had it last week

Good question. I have no clue.

Am I right in thinking T has 50 10+ places and W has 60 10+ places?

@pankajbh , just as schools over offer places they also over offer on scholarships, they don't expect them all to be accepted and they are often used to lure candidates they want from accepting other school offers.

That’s a good question but I think it’s unlikely anyone knows the answer for.
I somehow got the feeling throughout the process that nothing is set in stones at Whitgift, who to and what they offer seems to be an individual decision and not necessarily the highest performing ones are the ones with the best offers.

Great. Hope it was a good experience.

At whitgift the prefects said 10+ and 11+ interviews were being "lumped together for a very busy interviewing day on sat (21st)". I took that to mean that they were finishing them all at Whitgift and then deliberating afterwards. But who knows? I've read on previous threads people were being called for interviews really late (and they got in).

Our interview was on the 23rd and we were one of the first ones being invited. Had the choice only for the 23rd or 24th so interviews were definitely not finished until today.

Daydreamscometrue · 25/01/2023 19:46

And now the wait begins until the 10th of February

I went to Trinity's music department open morning. All I know is that a quarter of the boys who went to the music audition will be awarded a scholarship. Since there were around 20 10+ music scholarship candidates this year, I guess there will be 5 music scholars?

user1473290348 · 26/01/2023 08:31

Thanks @PamZg . Hopefully your son enjoyed the music audition and gets chosen for a scholarship. I recall you said your DS was in the running for an academic one due to his excellent exam results. Did the school indicate what level scholarships they offer given increase in overall costs? I imagine it's less than prior yrs. I'm not sure we will get anything but I'm curious for my other child.

The headmaster didn't mention the number or level of academic scholarship this year. And I dared not to ask😓.

Hi all, I'm aware Trinity and Whitgift 10+ offer days are 9th and 10th Feb respectively. Does anybody know how we are notified? I may be travelling for work so wonder if it's post, phonecalls or emails. And any idea on timings of offers so I don't panic prematurely? Thank you.

The Whitgift email said the offers will be emailed on the 10th. Timing wasn’t mentioned.
