Hello everybody, starting a thread for parents with children who have applied for 10+ this year.

Not the case for whitgift and trinity. I know people who got in last yr (11+) and they declined 10+. One ended up with an academic scholarship and the other went to Wilson's.

Thanks for that, really good to know 😊

user1473290348 · 12/01/2023 20:46

No problem @Melg100 . That said I saw some earlier posts about not getting in at 11+ if you declined 10+ and that did worry me!

Our plan was to try for whitgift, trinity, Wilson's, wally boys, Sutton grammar at 11+. We didn't expect our DS to get through this time as he is from a state school and had little prep. But it's suc a big thing going to sit an exam and for interviews that I felt it would be an excellent practice run.

Some people I know have told me their plan is to try for 10+ and see if they get a good scholarship. If they get a big scholarship, they will take it. But if not, they plan to try for the free schools in Sep. Various reasons - some cost but also because some think very highly of Wilson's and Tiffin Boys so want to try for those. But I suppose it can be all chang once offers come out!

I'm definitely feeling nervous now but I'm reminding myself that things will work out.

Good luck everybody!

We sat the W and T 10 plus exams and have interviews for both. Someone mentioned to me though that if they offer us a place and we decline, we can’t apply for the 11 plus at the same schools next year. Don’t know if that’s the case??

I heard that is true for Emmanuel.

Melg100 · 12/01/2023 21:06

Thanks both, we are also trying for the Sutton grammars 11 plus this year and will also try the whitgift and trinity 11 plus next year to keep our options open.

We come from a state school too and decided very last minute to apply for the 10 plus exams. Were surprised to be offered an interview so will use it as practice for next year!

good luck to everyone! It’s such a stressful process.

PollyG23 · 12/01/2023 22:29

Thanks @Daydreamscometrue and @PKSP I’m sure you’ll hear soon 🤞

PKSP · 12/01/2023 22:36

Thank you. Hope tomorrow is a good day.

Daydreamscometrue · 13/01/2023 06:43

Fingers crossed for all waiting to hear about interviews! Hopefully we hear one way or the other.

user1473290348 · 13/01/2023 07:35

Good luck everybody with news and the interviews today!

For those of your with interview dates and times- are you planning to send your son's back to school after? (If it's a school day). Trying to work out logistics with work and childcare on my end. Thanks.

Just received from Trinity with a yes for 13+ deferred entry. They just gave a possible date for interview as Jan 21 and indicated that they would confirm soon. Is it how it is for everyone else?

Daydreamscometrue · 13/01/2023 11:36

No word from W 11 plus. Anyone else? Debating emailing admissions if nothing by the end of the day.

AnnieH01 · 13/01/2023 12:00

Also nothing - am refreshing like a maniac - was contemplating calling too

If you have KGS, you need not worry at all. Some boys from my son's school, who had failed in much less sort after school than KGS, got an interview invitation from W 11+ yesterday. So the email order certainly has nothing to do with exam score ranking. In fact, you might be in for a little surprise as no scholarship assessment invitation has been out yet!!

Daydreamscometrue · 13/01/2023 13:15

@AC7001 Thanks for vote of confidence. It's just the waiting part. I really hope they let us know today as I can't bear the weekend of being in limbo.

Daydreamscometrue · 13/01/2023 13:27

@AC7001 Did your son's friend (the one who tried for Kings) hear yet?

AC7001 · 13/01/2023 13:39

Not yet.

You have KGS and I don't know if you have applied for any more selective ones, but KGS is quite more academically selective than W. I imagine it is very unlikely for you to go to W, unless it is for sports or for transport reasons. There is no need for you to worry at all.

AC7001 · 13/01/2023 13:42

There are quite a few boys in my DS's school that applied to W 11+, to summarise what I know:

  • Not everyone has received an email yet, and that includes the top performers in our school
  • the interview booking slot is already up to 18th Jan at least
  • No letters have not been sent
  • Those invited to interview include some who had failed in the more selective senior schools
AC7001 · 13/01/2023 13:43

And no one has received academic scholarship invitation,

Daydreamscometrue · 13/01/2023 13:43

@AC7001 it was actually the school DS has shown most enthusiasm for although he really likes LU, Dulwich and KGS.

Daydreamscometrue · 13/01/2023 13:57

@AC7001 thanks so much for the information. Only DS and two others applied from his school and I think one of them has his interview today.

maybein2022 · 13/01/2023 14:03

Can I just ask, W 10+, if boys were being considered for an academic scholarship- would the interview email be different or just the standard one? Thanks and congratulations to everyone with interviews.

Trinity makes it clear in their emails, I don’t know about Whitgift. My DS has a 10+interview on the 23rd. Interview letter said “with a senior staff”. We applied for bursary and the foundation called today to inform that he is considered for one as he has done well.

Daydreamscometrue · 13/01/2023 15:51

@London2007 I missed a call this afternoon from the Foundation. Did they assume that you had received the interview hence the call?

The school informed the foundation that they would like us to be assessed. The interview was not mentioned. An email came after the call to inform what is needed from our side for the assessment.
