I don't care about handing out sweets or having the children sing happy birthday to DD but what has really pissed me off is DD told teacher it's her birthday today and the teacher couldn't even wish her a happy birthday!

Why does your daughter go to school on a Saturday?

Someone will be along in a minute to scold you for your Americanism.

🤦‍♀️

Ttbhappy · 05/11/2022 22:31

Your being a bit silly

ThatGirlInACountrySong · 05/11/2022 22:34

It's another one of THOSE threads...

Curta · 05/11/2022 22:34

What on earth do you mean you don't care about sweets? The teacher doesn't owe you or your DD anything like what you've mentioned.

SoManyCreepyBears · 05/11/2022 22:36

Happy Birthday OPs DD

Love from a teacher.

wibblewobbleboard · 05/11/2022 22:38

It's Saturday. Get drunk if you want.

muttleyandson · 05/11/2022 22:46

DD took in some sweets and asked the teacher if she could hand them out because it was her birthday. Teachers reply was 'okay'. Not even a happy birthday. End of the day she didn't let DD hand out the sweets. In DD's class there are 3 birthdays in this one week, the child who's birthday it was the day before DD's received a birthday sticker, had the class sing happy birthday to them and was allowed to hand out sweets they brought in. The day after DD's birthday same thing applied for the other child, sticker, class singing happy birthday and handing out sweets. I am and IMO rightly pissed off for the way DD has been treated.

This is primary school, they are children, all the replies getting there knickers in a twist defending heartless teachers need to understand the key point here. They are children, some children come from broken homes where parents may not give a shit what day it is never mind their own child's birthday and if/when that child goes into the only place that gives them an escape from the shithole they live in it is unacceptable for a teacher to treat them like shit. You're not up to the job if you can't show an ounce of kindness to a child. IMO they should quite rightly fuck off elsewhere and choose a different career.

Yeah they are children op..., and? They are at school to work/learn surely? Endless sweets and singing and stickers? Really?3 bloody days in a row?

LaGioconda · 05/11/2022 22:51

Do you mean this happened yesterday?

It might not hurt to make a polite inquiry as to why the teacher was treating you daughter differently, I suspect there was some misunderstanding involved,

TonksInPurple · 05/11/2022 22:51

@BellaCiao1 no where did the op say it happened today in fact she mentioned things that happened after the birthday so it obviously happened a while ago.

This happened during the week and it's still bothering me so like I said should I be pissed off about it as much as I am?

Jesus you're defensive

DarkKarmaIlama · 05/11/2022 22:51

@muttleyandson

Oh that’s a shame. The teacher was mean not letting your child hand out the sweets like the other kids this week. My kid would be really upset if he was unable to hand his birthday sweets. Honestly that’s like the thing he looks forward to the most. It’s a big thing for a child.

So why does one child get to miss out and be treated less favourably just because she has the misfortune to have a birthday just after two others?

madnesss · 05/11/2022 22:52

OP you said your DD told the teacher it's her birthday today

CrampMcBastard · 05/11/2022 22:53

YABU

toomuchlaundry · 05/11/2022 22:53

How does your DD feel about it?

Will you be happy with a TA for the rest of the year if the teacher leaves as you want them to do

The don't go on an all day bender love, it only takes five minutes to sing happy birthday and hand out some sweets and less than a second to wish a child a happy birthday.

So, is it the parental or teacher expectation to wish your child a happy birthday?
can your child read? Write instructions? Understand fractions? Etc etc
It is not your teacher’s job to celebrate your child’s birthday - that’s your job .
However , they will probably say something along the lines of ‘ hope you’re having a great day ‘ Even though it’s not their child .

And parents wonder why teachers are leaving the profession in droves .

It is the teacher's job to treat pupils fairly. If she has treated OP's daughter differently from other children when they have birthdays, she's not doing her job properly.

muttondressedasmutton1 · 05/11/2022 22:54

Hardly treating your daughter like "shit" as you put it

BellaCiao1 · 05/11/2022 22:54

I said that in no world would a child say it's their birthday and not have any response back in the remit of 'Happy Birthday/Have a lovely Day/Oh very good' etc. How did the teacher allegedly respond?

Also, although meant well, it is very, very annoying when children bring sweets or cake in to give out for their birthdays. The level of disruption it causes in class is not worth it. Plus (not saying your daughter did this but..) the birthday child usually spends the day asking when you're giving their sweets out. It's honestly a PITA
