Should I be pissed teacher didn't wish DD a happy birthday?

I don't care about handing out sweets or having the children sing happy birthday to DD but what has really pissed me off is DD told teacher it's her birthday today and the teacher couldn't even wish her a happy birthday!

Oh fgs!Really?

JudgeRindersMinder · 05/11/2022 22:06

😂😂😂

POTC · 05/11/2022 22:07

How old is DD? Is it not equally possible that the teacher did but DD wasn't paying attention, or that the teacher didn't hear DD say that to her?

PinkPlantCase · 05/11/2022 22:07

No you shouldn’t be pissed off about it

CaronPoivre · 05/11/2022 22:08

Not sure that’s part of their contractual obligation.

Philandbill · 05/11/2022 22:08

40% of newly qualified teachers are leaving the profession within five years. There is a recruitment and retention crisis..Reading a post like this...

TwitTw00 · 05/11/2022 22:09

More detail needed.

Pumperthepumper · 05/11/2022 22:09

So your kid said ‘it’s my birthday today’ and the teacher just looked at them?

User135792468 · 05/11/2022 22:09

How old is your dd? I can’t imagine the teacher ignored her telling her that, just on a human level. I’m guessing your dd just didn’t relay the interaction correctly. She probably said “oh that’s nice”, “that’s very exciting”, “are you having a nice day?” Just because she didn’t say the words happy birthday, it doesn’t mean she didn’t wish her well.

RFPO77 · 05/11/2022 22:09

Oh behave 🤦‍♀️

PinkButtercups · 05/11/2022 22:09

MaryDerry · 05/11/2022 22:12

Please complain to Ofsted that they didn't follow birthday guidance and bake a cake.

Notplayingball · 05/11/2022 22:15

Must be a wind up...

Managinggenzoclock · 05/11/2022 22:16

Our kids’ school have a birthday hat and always sing happy birthday to any birthday children in the dinner hall. I think it’s a lovely thing so YANBU.

EmmaC78 · 05/11/2022 22:16

I know this is not AIBU but YABVU

muttondressedasmutton1 · 05/11/2022 22:19

😂 you're a joker OP

kerrycgeorgie · 05/11/2022 22:20

YANBU, I think it's common courtesy to say happy birthday, and teachers you'd think would be switched on to how much birthdays mean to kids. I'd be worried that it's a sign of disengagement, see it quite regularly in my dc teachers, as a PP said there's a massive retention problem and teachers are clearly overstretched.

muttondressedasmutton1 · 05/11/2022 22:20

It's Saturday most kids don't have school on a Saturday

madnesss · 05/11/2022 22:21

I mean it's Saturday, so?

Muchtoomuchtodo · 05/11/2022 22:22

On a Saturday? Were they even in school?

Tartanshores · 05/11/2022 22:24

So, is it the parental or teacher expectation to wish your child a happy birthday?
can your child read? Write instructions? Understand fractions? Etc etc
It is not your teacher’s job to celebrate your child’s birthday - that’s your job .
However , they will probably say something along the lines of ‘ hope you’re having a great day ‘ Even though it’s not their child .

And parents wonder why teachers are leaving the profession in droves .
