If you did GCSEs between 1988 and 1990 which subjects did you do?

Newtssuitcase · 13/08/2017 08:03

I can't for the life of me remember all of my subjects. I know I did 10 but I've lost one.

Could you list yours for me in case it jogs my memory. I sat my GCSEs in 1989.

Are you sure you did 10? We did 9. Don't you have the certificates?

MeDented · 13/08/2017 09:05

We did 2 maths at our school, maths and mechanics or maths and stats

ClashCityRocker · 13/08/2017 09:06

I did double science, english lit and English language, maths, sociology, German, religious studies, graphics and drama.

Sociology and drama were my free choices, and then we had to pick a language, humanity and technology (but all of these could also be used as a free choice, so if you wanted to study two languages or history and geography, you could) plus the compulsory English literature and language, science and maths.

Oh I remember a IT being shit pre gcse.... It was all on Acorn computers.

Woofsaidtheladybird · 13/08/2017 09:15

1988, so first years of GCSEs. What a palaver that was.
Everyone had to do: maths, French, biology, English Lang and English Lit. Then had 4 options and I did physics and chemistry (which my parents made me do Angry and strangely were the ones I failed), and art and music.

elQuintoConyo · 13/08/2017 09:18

We were allowed to dump RE but only after our mocks. So i did.

I haven't been asked about my GCSE subjects or grades since A-levels. I couldn't tell you where my certifictes are (several house moves, 4 different countries, parents divorced, no 'family home') or which LEA they were with.

I do have to remind myself, though, that 1990 wasn't 12-15 years ago, but 27 ShockSad

Leeds2 · 13/08/2017 09:24

Don't think anyone has suggested Economics. Or Latin, Greek or Classical Civilisation.

DropZoneOne · 13/08/2017 09:24

Did you not do any arts? I did Textiles as my art choice but there was also Art and Drama available that section.

Our school also made sure you had broad education. I did
Maths
English Lang
English Lit
Science A & B (but studied Chemistry, Physics and Biology separately and took 4 exams to get 2 GCSEs, always thought that was odd)
History
Spanish
Textiles
French

I also did some weird Further Maths thing that wasn't an official GCSE as it was Merit/Credit rather than A-C grades.

Newtssuitcase · 13/08/2017 09:42

I definitely did 10 because I remember the grades. My mum thinks I did two maths but it would have been something like Maths A and Maths B (like combined science) and my googling doesn't show up anything like that as an option.

Definitely didn't do any posh subjects Leeds Wink Grin

I was 1989 as well (2nd year of GCSEs). Mine were:

Maths (I don't remember there being double maths else I would have done it.)
English
English Lit
RE
Physics
Chemistry
French
Computer Studies
Art
Life studies ( I can't remember the exact name but actually was the most practical gcse and taught you things like how mortgages work and don't pay more than 1/3 of your net income in mortgage etc)

I had the same problem, last year, couldn't remember one of my gcses so i know exactly what you mean. I think those Examination Boards that existed back in 1989 don't exist anymore as they have merged etc. Thank goodness....I wouldn't even be able to tell you where my degree certificate is!

Do you need to be able to list them all? For my most recent job (this year) I just stated X number of GCSEs, all grade A - C including English and Maths. That was fine - they didn't want to know any more than that. I did my GCSEs in the early 90s.

Witchend · 13/08/2017 20:14

The extra maths was (I think) "paper 5" which gave you a little pass/fail extension paper.

I did:
Maths
English Lang
English Lit
French (those were all compulsory)

Chemistry
Biology
Physics
Graphic Communication (a version of technical Drawing)
RE
Additional Maths (sometimes called A/O level)

Stickerrocks · 13/08/2017 20:19

Final year of O levels:
Maths, Additional Maths, Statistics,
English Lit & Lan
2 x French - not sure of the difference between then
Geography, History
Physics, Biology, Chemistry
