Getting DS ready for boarding school, what did you do?

Hi,

I'm trying to prepare ds as best as possible for boarding school. Looking for any sweet ideas to make the transition less stressful.

I'm making a little photo book as a surprise. We're talking about it little and often in a very positive way (which it will be).

what else should I do?

Dreamgirls thank you for sharing your families experience. I am expecting the first term at least to be a mixed ride getting used to things and trying to settle into the pattern. You highlight great areas that issues can come in lots of places not just the education. Im glad your daughter is now settled and I hope in a term or two or a year I'll have the same happy experience with my ds.

Housepicture I can do nothing but smile, you fail to see my point that I don't care if people like the concept of boarding or not, or what you think of me for choosing that life for our family.

I agree with goinggetstough you should start another thread to look at your topic "is boarding a good choice or not" is a topic I am sure you would enjoy debating (given what you have posted to date) but my comment to that if I bothered at all (unlikely as I have no experience to date!!) would be it is an individual choice and you need to seek an educated informed view from as many professional educators as you can.
For this post though house I asked how YOU got your child ready for boarding, a thread that only people having made the choice would know the answer to. I completely disagree that someone deciding to choose boarding or not would read a thread on how to prepare their children, that isn't part of the choice of is boarding good or not Confused. All the way through your comments have been inflammatory "call up an cancel" and completely off topic and unsupported not to mention often unkind. Be off topic if you like, be alternative but in all your comments have offered no help and just made me smile Smile

in all the tread has be of great help though, so thanks again to those packing their children suitcases and preparing the family for boarding.
