6 days to go and starting to get anxious...!

OP posts:
jeee · 13/10/2014 11:12

I may just have done this with dc1 Obviously I'd have never tried to analyse every facial expression of my child's HT.

SlightlyJadedJack · 13/10/2014 11:17

Grin @ jeee

Anyway I'm becoming more of a wreck as the minutes tick by. I've actually just made myself feel even worse by working out that he needs to be in the top 5.7% of state school children (in this county) to pass (based on last years stats). Why the hell did I even work that out?!!! Someone tell me I've got that wrong.

SlightlyJadedJack · 13/10/2014 11:18

I need to go and do some work, I can see my income for October/November dropping dramatically!

AvonCallingBarksdale · 13/10/2014 11:39

Woah, woah, woah, SlightlyJadedJack. That must be wrong, surely? I can feel my blood pressure rising, now Shock. Think I'm going to stick my fingers in my ears and in case I hear anything else that doesn't "fit" Grin

Hakluyt · 13/10/2014 11:45

I remember taking my ds out of school to visit a grammar school, and chatting to the head about it when he already knew ds had failed. Sad

SlightlyJadedJack · 13/10/2014 11:52

I think it's right Avon? (30% to grammar, 19% of those children from state schools..) Harsh isn't it!

Hak that's horrible Sad.

Spindarella · 13/10/2014 19:09

Result in from one school...erm, less said the better... Faith school with 22 places by exam. Might have been ok if it was 222 places by exam. Right, let's see what the next one brings.

plus3 · 13/10/2014 19:15

I am losing the plot as well! Had a dream that DS passed and one particular mum came & told me he had stolen her son's place Confused.....

rollonthesummer · 13/10/2014 20:44

Congrats to your DD rollon. DS also passed, got a really good score actually and he is v chuffed.

Fantastic stuff! Where will he be off to?

Very few at her school passed-a bit of a surprise this year. Looks like the pass mark was 60%+ rather than the 55% it usually is??

OP posts:
Chewbecca · 13/10/2014 21:50

Thank you rollon. SHSB is where he very much wants to go & I would be v surprised if he doesn't get his 1st choice. Did you say you had a DS there already?

Yes, raw pass mark is a little higher, which reflects our feeling that children, on the whole, didn't find it too hard. At DS's school most of the children you'd think were 'guaranteed' to pass did, but a lot of the more borderline children did not.

rollonthesummer · 13/10/2014 22:08

Yes- DS is in Y8 at shsb and dd can start at the girls' school, too!

Looks like we were right about the paper being 'easier'. Glad it's all over though, until #3!

LePetitMarseillais · 13/10/2014 22:25

Gawk this is making me dread the envelope opening more.

How did you all do it?

hmc · 13/10/2014 22:33

Ds gets his results tomorrow. He thinks he cocked up the exam and has failed. I genuinely don't care - it was always dh who pushed the 11+ but I am unconvinced by the grammar and think it would be a poor fit for ds (too large, too competitive...likely to undermine his confidence). Would rather ds be a big fish in a small sea than a minnow at the grammar...

The only thing I am worried about concerning the results is just one particular smug arse of a boy - who is bound to have passed, and will waste no time in lording it over ds if ds has failed. It's the thought of ds getting upset at school when Master Smuggery has a pop at him Sad. The other children who have taken the 11+ at ds' school are thankfully not like that

rollonthesummer · 14/10/2014 09:41

Have you heard, hmc? I hope it's good news :)

OP posts:
hmc · 14/10/2014 09:55

Thanks Rollon - not yet. Post comes around lunch time....

SlightlyJadedJack · 14/10/2014 10:39

Good luck today hmc, really hope he passes. And I hope MasterSmuggery keeps his views to himself. Angry

MiniJack is also now worrying about people talking about the results next week. I have told him it will only last a day or two and then it will be old news so not to worry.

hmc · 14/10/2014 13:09

Thank you for the well wishes SlightlyJaded

Well the post came and he has passed Shock Shock Shock

He really had me convinced that he had failed!

Pass mark was equivalent to 72% and he got 76% so not sure if that will secure him an outright place in March or see him put on the waiting list (since more children pass than there are places available).

But am delighted for him that he passed - he doesn't handle failure well and his self-esteem isn't as high as it could be. A fail would have knocked his confidence...

Still not sure if the school will be right for him but I guess it is nice to have the option

Best of luck to MiniJack - hope he gets good news

SlightlyJadedJack · 14/10/2014 13:23

Yay that's great news hmc, so pleased for him! Smile

Thank you for the good luck wishes, I feel like you did early this morning! Grin

SugarPlumTree · 14/10/2014 13:28

Well done to Mini HMC Smile I am with you about not being a minnow at the Grammar and that would be my feeling about DS.

Results for DS being sent today. It doesn't say first class but assume it will be. I feel nervous and we've only had this since thd middle of last month, I haven't seen the school and have no idea if it would be good for him in unlikely event of him getting in. Goodness knows what it is like for the rest of you who have been dealing with this for longer.

SlightlyJadedJack · 14/10/2014 13:32

Nerve-wracking SugarPlumTree!! Hope your postie delivers good news tomorrow.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 14/10/2014 13:38

Well done to your DC, HMC Smile
Not sure if I can stand another 3 days. Trying to wean myself off the BUcks 11+ Forum - not sure that's a good place for me to be at the mo.
And, breathe.....

hmc · 14/10/2014 13:43

Oh I really feel for you all - the wait is difficult isn't it. Fingers crossed! I hope you have good news to post here soon

SugarPlumTree · 14/10/2014 13:50

I can imagine Slightlyjaded Sad Fingers firmly crossed for everyone.

lordStrange · 14/10/2014 14:16

well done to the passes! commiserations to others but I'm sure it'll turn out well for others!

Low level anxiety has turned to definite jitters in the Strange household - we find out Thursday morning if DS has passed or not. Very little confidence as though Ds is high achieving in Eng, not so much in the Maths. No tutoring either, just a bit of familiarisation over the hols.

Chewbecca · 14/10/2014 19:45

DS reported that yesterday there was much 11+ conversation (day after results), today there was none
