Anyone still out there?!

OP posts:
pooziepuzzle · 14/02/2014 14:05

Without a schol unlikely to be able to accept as fees constantly rising

AliceLostinWonderland · 14/02/2014 14:05

Anyone waiting for Grammar results now or are you all accepting indie offers?

pooziepuzzle · 14/02/2014 14:06

Yes will wait for grammars now but DS wants W snd so did we until today!

wanttoknow77 · 14/02/2014 14:06

Congrats to all with the good news!! We have a 10+ place at T with small scholarship..leaving hopes a bit dashed like your's pooziepuzzle...esp as MrB praised son's performance to the skies to DH on interview day and had scholarship chat!! We have more waiting though - CLSB results should reach us on 18th Feb.

Brownsugar3879 · 14/02/2014 14:07

Has anyone been offered Bursary from either T or W?

MrsSteptoe · 14/02/2014 14:12

Oh Poozie, I am sorry about that. The fee increases are definitely horrific. We've realised that our plans for moving to a house will have to be modified in favour of another flat. Or just not move, but I'm not sure we'll survive another seven years in this flat!

AliceLostinWonderland · 14/02/2014 14:16

Brownsugar - did you call up the schools?
We got Bursary from T, nothing from W.

Why would W give "scholarship talk" and praise your DS to the sky and offer nothing? why? why? why? Angry

Brownsugar3879 · 14/02/2014 14:33

AliceLostinWonderland I tried T but no answer, couldn't leave a message either. The stupid postie is not here yet Angry

Mummynet29 · 14/02/2014 14:36

Tnx Alice and Congratulations to you and your DS too!!!

wanttoknow77 · 14/02/2014 14:37

Dont know AliceLostinWonderland ...am thinking maybe at the 10+ there is less to go around...dont know tbh...what they have offered is next to nothing Sad

willthecreamcometothetop · 14/02/2014 14:39

sorry to butt in. i do undersatnd how disappointing it is to hope for scholarships and not get one. but at the end of the day there are manyother candidates in the running and the cut of has to happen somewhere and I am talking as a mother who was disappointed that DS didn't get sports scholarship despite given to understand that he was underconsideration. Anyway its's worth trying to negotiate as some scholars may turn offer down in favour of another school

Mummynet29 · 14/02/2014 14:40

We might soon hit 1000 mark...is there going to be a separate thread for 3rd March...want some hand holding until then and don't want to lose u guys...whoever starts it plz let us know the link.....Wink

MotherOfSuburbia · 14/02/2014 14:42

Well it was a full fees offer from T for us and all rounder schol from W. Unfortunately the schol offer isn't really enough to offset the enormous fees so we're really back to waiting for grammar results in March.
Feeling a bit deflated tbh. Going to have to be upbeat when I pick DS up and tell him how well he's done but feel guilty that we can't just send him to his preferred school when he's done so well and got a scholarship offer. Need to be richer or have fewer children!
Well done one and all though. These boys have worked so hard and deserve mega- treats!

basildonbond · 14/02/2014 14:48

Congratulations everyone - dd got academic scholarships at Alleyn's and Streatham & Clapham so v proud of her :)

Needmoresleep · 14/02/2014 15:10

MofS having had an offer, and especially a scholarship offer, should make it far easier if the state option does not work out and you decide to change track later on.

I might reveal that I know where Mrs S lives and this morning was passing the end of her road. I was very tempted to stop and look through her letter box just to see her in the hallway in her deckchair with Wodehouse and Radio 4extra. However I was worried about the reaction if she heard the letter box flap move....

But brilliant news, and well done to all those DC who worked so hard.

Brownsugar3879 · 14/02/2014 15:41

Got offered W. Reality just setting in now with £17k to pay.

Marni23 · 14/02/2014 16:07

Congratulations to all who have had good news!

MrsS am absolutely delighted for you and DS-and to think you almost withdrew him from the Alleyn's exam! Any idea which you're going to accept?

Teddingtonmum1 · 14/02/2014 16:09

Well done to everyone mrs S told ya so NOW the real fun starts just pull straws !!.

Poozie know exactly how your feeling got a place at Reeds but no idea how much I will have to find and as a single parent with daddy refusing to contribute there is always going to be a cut off that I just can't pay silver lining is at least you might be in the running for a grammar but if they set their heart on a school its awful having to give them a reality check.

Finger crossed for a good outcome

usualsuspect47 · 14/02/2014 16:27

Thanks Alice!
We have decided to accept the T place and reject the W offer. So I hope to meet some of you in the future!

Thanks again to everyone for their support. I think I shall have the image of Mrs S in her deckchair with me for the rest of my life!

SJ69 · 14/02/2014 16:40

Congratulations to all the mums and DCs.

Ususalsuspect47 : We got offers from both T and W. I am curious why you chose T over W. My son original preferred T but after saw W in operation, he said he cannot make decision. We will take him to visit T when it is in operation but your feedback will be helpful.

MrsSteptoe · 14/02/2014 17:08

Needsmoresleep, just as well you resisted temptation. I think the postman may have feared for the safety of his pint lifting arm as he tried to put envelopes through the letter box.
Marni, I think we're going to go back and see A, DC and T again with a list of questions and take it from there. But I won't deny that DS has always favoured Dulwich. He took one look at the redbrick and you could see him thinking "Hogwarts". Plus I like the feel of boys' schools.

Marni23 · 14/02/2014 17:18

MrsS lovely to have the choice.

Don't be surprised if you change your mind after visiting again with offers though-we did!

MrsSteptoe · 14/02/2014 17:32

That thought is precisely what's at the back of my mind, Marni!

pooziepuzzle · 14/02/2014 18:01

Brownsugar did you apply for bursary then?

pooziepuzzle · 14/02/2014 18:02

Looks like Trinity being more generous? Should have spied there !!
