Woah! dd2 wasn't allowed a snack at nursery as she refused to say grace

I can't believe I nodded sympathetically when they told me this today when I picked dd2 up. 'oh dear' I said 'sorry she's being such a pain'. It wasn't until I got in the car that I thought 'Hold on a minute...refusing to say grace for a SNACK at 3.5...is this really superbrat behaviour??'

Maybe dd2 is a prostletizing atheist?

turniphead · 09/03/2006 22:58

suffer the little children eh?

SorenLorensen · 09/03/2006 23:00

AngelaD, I am 110% on my children's side - I can still agree they are a pain sometimes though Grin

I don't think Jesus would be too chuffed with the punishment either

JanH · 09/03/2006 23:10

Am shocked at nursery for punishing her for it, Enid, but big cheer for DD2 not saying it Grin

(also Sad at 'I sorry mummy I was naughty at snack' - good grief, it's only words at this age, do they want Nazi Youth?)

will prob get leapt on here, but im with your DH. in fact prob go further.
i hate bloody organised religion. its just a lazy way to develop a belief system and moral code if you ask me, and thats at best. and stupid, petty, mean nasty people like that teacher hide behind it all the time. its so bloody hypocritical - punishing a 3 year old for not being grateful and humble enough?? what on earh dos that have to do with supposed christian values??
pah.

aplogies to anyone i may have offended here - i do recognise that these are my views and respect the right of others to have different, but they are my views and i believe in them fervently!

blondie82 · 10/03/2006 09:20

i used to go to a CofE school, and i never used to say grace.
to be honest, cant remember having to say it at all?!! Blush

gomez · 10/03/2006 09:29

I would be intrested in asking the Nursery if the punishement was for not obeying the 'rule' or was it specific to the refusal to say grace if that makes sense. In my mind there may be a pedantic difference which would ifluence how I felt about it - in the terms of level of rage.

Basic premise of withholding snack from a 3 year old wrong however.

Enid · 10/03/2006 09:36

Well I am going to have a word on Monday (I am also going to get a dig in about saying grace at snack time just asking for trouble but there we go). I will remind them that I think she is finding nursery quite stressful (it IS quite strict and if I am honest I LIKED that when dd2 was perfectly behaved Wink) and if they could cut her a bit of slack.

She had a terrible nights sleep crying for me and having bad dreams and was overjoyed not to be going to nursery today Sad

Enid · 10/03/2006 09:37

lol at the idea of dd2 saying 'xxxx off you bitch'

very unlikely though Grin

gomez · 10/03/2006 09:39

Oh Enid the wee scone. Be extra nice to her today.

Enid · 10/03/2006 09:45

yes we are having a dd2-centric morning (she has a plate of toast, a mug of cocoa, a blanket and Sleeping Beauty on video)

Angeliz · 10/03/2006 10:19

Enid, sin't there a Nursery with the Village School?

Enid · 10/03/2006 10:25

no Sad

tbh there are NO full-time nurseries locally apart from two attached to private prep schools

Angeliz · 10/03/2006 10:35

ohSad That's such a shame. Would they take her into Reception maybe for Sepetmber when she'll be nearly 4? (mind you then she'd be by far the youngest there wouldn't she?)

littlemisspiggy · 10/03/2006 10:41
Sad

I would usually think rules are rules, but I definetely agree that the punishment in no way fitted the crime. She's only 3 fgs and is already collecting emotional baggage.
Definitely have a word with them.

cod · 10/03/2006 10:41

enid are you still going on abotu this

stleger · 10/03/2006 10:51

My 3 kids have had a church of Ireland education at primary level. Only one teacher did grace at lunchtime. My view is that if we have a vicar or priest for a meal, he kicks it off with grace. If the same person gets a cup of tea and a bit of apple tart that is a snack for which he can give thanks either inwardly or at a later date. If it is apple tart I made, he may choose to pray for his digestion.

Enid · 10/03/2006 11:00

lol stleger

oh cod. just because I am not interested in skinny jeans...

cod · 10/03/2006 13:28
Shock
Flossam · 10/03/2006 13:41

Sorry quick gate crash Enid - Is there anywhere nice in Yeovil I could take DS (16months) with grandpa? Like soft play etc. Can't think of anywhere, no-where at Goldenstones is there?

Blu · 10/03/2006 14:02

My DS made me say grace in a fish and chip shop (with my eyes closed and hands together, the whole works) under the influence of an over-enthusiastic nursery teacher.

Marina · 10/03/2006 14:04

Her influence lingers on Blu Shock I hope you don't mind my saying I wish I had been there to see that...Wink
