It used to be enough for the kids to just be happy as people, now it comes w/all these conditions.

Sad, really.

aloha · 14/11/2005 22:27

Um, being bored witless at school does not make you happy IME.

paolosgirl · 14/11/2005 22:27

My kids are only allowed to go out to play once they've read the Times from cover to cover. Then I test them to make sure thay've understood everything. If they get it wrong I hold their hands over the gas flame on the hob.

a couple of them are bright
but they are more sporty than anything

aloha · 14/11/2005 22:29

Oh yes, I'd happily leave it at the bottom of the bag and read something else. But very mean to say that a child can only read more interesting books as school if they are good at sport I think.

expatinscotland · 14/11/2005 22:29

Only boring people are bored.

aloha · 14/11/2005 22:29

Oh, that is crap Expat!

I used to sneak reading material of my own chosing into my notebooks, textbooks, etc.

aloha · 14/11/2005 22:30

Such a cliche! You don't have to be clever to be bored either!

Is it? I don't think so. I used to make my own fun. If it got me in trouble, all the better .

dd reads pharmaceutical mags, ds1 reads art reviews and ds2 reads you your rights

paolosgirl · 14/11/2005 22:32

I'd love to tell my kid's teachers that they need easier books cos they're thick

aloha · 14/11/2005 22:33

I used to draw my teacher and then do a makeover on her...sort of Trinny and Susannah but well before their time. Until my geog teacher found it. The argument that at least I wasn't bored wasn't hugely successful.

Is that the teachers who need easier books because they are thick?

marthamoo · 14/11/2005 22:35

Parp (and that's the first time I've ever done that).

edam · 14/11/2005 22:35

Oh Aloha, you were made for your job, weren't you?

MrsSpoon · 14/11/2005 22:36

My DS1 is thick as a brick.

expatinscotland · 14/11/2005 22:36

I was:

suspended for reading 'banned' material - DH Lawrence, ffs

suspended for supplying other students with banned material - 'The Satanic Verses', a crap book, btw

suspended for 'propogating solicitous material'

suspended for smoking whilst underage and supplying tobacco materials to other minors

suspended for truancy - now there's a fitting punishment!

Bored? Never.

SenoraPostrophe · 14/11/2005 22:38

dunno, because dd has said about 5 words to her teacher in 2 months . suspect not.

obvioulsy it's because she's too clever though. do you think she could start university at 4?
