Thought it would be nice to start a support thread on here about the wait for our DC getting into secondary schools. Anyone else glad the tests are all over?

oh no, how the hell does this happen. Poor boy. poor you.

TobyLerone · 01/03/2011 16:33

Shit, that is bad. My son got through on headteacher's appeal due to v high marks in 2 parts and slightly below in the 3rd. So not hopeful now :(

Mum2Luke · 01/03/2011 16:35

Hey Mankyscotslass whereabouts are you? I live literally spitting distance from Audenshaw, can see the back of the school from one of our back bedrooms.

My lad who is nearly 9 is at St Stephens CE primary, his older brother went there too and the 6th form and is at University now. I want my lad to go there, its an excellent school, discipline is very good too and there are lots of extra-curricular activities.

I've got 2 years yet till the dreaded letter which says yes or no comes through the letterbox, it was nerve-racking enough when the eldest first applied and we only had to wait till November then but now its march. I am applying to St Thomas More (for the religious aspect) and Trinity Church of England High in Manchester where my daughter went. Have a look on www.trinityhigh.com.

TobyLerone · 01/03/2011 16:35

Oh, Homewood's good though :) That's not as bad as it could be!

I was advised by someone-who-knows-someone that when you put down your choices for schools, if they've got into grammar, you should put down all the local grammars and no comps. That way, apparently, they know you're serious about grammar and will try to send you to the one nearest. If you put down a comp, they'll just send you there, and because you haven't put down any other grammars you can't appeal to go to them.

Nervous now.

Ingles2 · 01/03/2011 16:35

Toby we live in the worst possible place though...west of Tenterden.

TobyLerone · 01/03/2011 16:36

I'm in Ashford, and the distance was what stopped me putting down Homewood, or I would have.

Ingles2 · 01/03/2011 16:38

Then you'll get NK no problem...
We'll have to go to appeal,...

mankyscotslass · 01/03/2011 16:39

Mum2luke, we are over in Danebank!

Our choice would be Audenshaw, but unlikely to get in. Sad

MIL has suggested Trinity also, will have a look at that, thanks.

TobyLerone · 01/03/2011 16:40

Not hopeful because of the headteacher's appeal, but fingers crossed. My friend got her daughter into Highworth on appeal last year, despite not having even put it down on the form because she didn't pass the Kent Test. She appealed because she was told by someone in admissions at the school that they had unfilled places after the first round of admissions. It's definitely possible, but not a pleasant process :(

Mum2Luke · 01/03/2011 16:45

ah rite, Trinity is very good school, they are building too so there will be brand new classrooms soon as its finished.

They have very good sports, music, dance and drama there, have a look at the website, I think you'll be impressed. You can look at an online prospectus on there too. www.trinityhigh.com.

The 201 goes to Manchester and then either the
Good luck!!
