Thought it would be nice to start a support thread on here about the wait for our DC getting into secondary schools. Anyone else glad the tests are all over?

i know its very odd nutcracker my sister had her email for my nephew two years ago just after midnight ... getting more and more stressed now :(

willow · 01/03/2011 07:48

Suffering with really painful gastritis at the moment (mmm, wonder if it's stress related?!) so have been up most of the night anyway. Only problem is that I am now high as a kite on some serious painkillers - not what I needed. Bet our letter doesn't turn up early/that the system crashes at 5/that I am still waiting to hear this time tomorrow.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2011 07:53

I'm sorry Laura and miniwedge :(

foxinsocks · 01/03/2011 07:53

poor you willow :(

that london site does suggest that it sends you an email too so maybe you will get it on email (am just remembering you are in London - if not, ignore me!)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2011 07:56

a few basics about appealing

SeeJaneKick · 01/03/2011 07:56

Do many of you think your DC will be going to schools without their friends from primary?

It's a bit of a fear of mine....though DD isn't at this age yet, I have a feeling it's going to come round very fast!

foxinsocks · 01/03/2011 07:56

(willow, just out of interest, what painkillers do they give you for gastritis? I get it quite regularly but have been told not to take painkillers)

DayDreamingDaisy · 01/03/2011 07:58

DS1 got his (and our) first choice, we are all very pleased although I still am finding it hard to get to grips with my little boy going to big school! I'd better get used to it!

So sorry for those who are disappointed and hope the appeals get you all somewhere...

Congrats to those who are happy with their allocated places.

elizadoestoomuch · 01/03/2011 08:01

Ok before my DS gets his hopes up can someone please confirm we're not being thick.
Have checked our application online. Against our preferred choice it says allocated and against the other 2 choices it says not allocated. is this a definite answer? I know we have to also wait for the letter.
Just read that back and I am being thick aren't I? It is telling me what school my DS has been allocated isn't it?

TheOriginalNutcracker · 01/03/2011 08:01

I am assuming there must be some sort of delay Reban, as none of dd's friends have heard either.

As I said, dd should be garunteed a place really, but this waiting is making me twitchy. I have checked the copy of my application email countless times this morning incase I applied for the wrong school or something lol.

tiredofchallenge · 01/03/2011 08:04

Also in Birmingham and haven't had an email, but the allocations are on the website if you log in.

carminaburana · 01/03/2011 08:05

Eliza: I would say yes- you gave been allocated your preferred
choice - congratulations!

I can't find out until 5pm tonight ( on-line) and I'm told the whole system crashes - arghhhhhh

TheOriginalNutcracker · 01/03/2011 08:10

I have logged in but can't see where to look Confused

hedwig06 · 01/03/2011 08:19

I'm in Birmingham and when I logged into the online page it says "Offered" does this mean she has been offered a place??
Still haven't received an email, where are they???
Smile

Congrats to everyone who has the place they wanted and
Sad to those who didn't.

I'm off to check my emails again ........

Come on Birmingham City Council!!

TheOriginalNutcracker · 01/03/2011 08:20

hedwig, - where on the site do you check ?? I can't see anything ??

snowegg · 01/03/2011 08:25

Don't find out till 5pm, but still some disagreement in the HH about what we actully want!

bitsyandbetty · 01/03/2011 08:25

My DS got his first choice, phew. I have assumed Place offered means this. Worcestershire cc.

hedwig06 · 01/03/2011 08:25

TON,
Log onto your admissions page as if you are filling in the form again, i.e, apply online. Click to sign in.

When you are logged in it will have you child's name, mine says closed applications and then her name underneath, I then clicked "print enclosed summary", and all the details are there from when you filled in the form, right at the top in green mine says "offered".
Also down the page where it states the preferred school, it also says offer status - offered.

Hope this helps, are you in Brum as well??

Angi x

bitsyandbetty · 01/03/2011 08:29

Sorry to thsoe who did not get first choice. I would appeal if you can. Birmingham useless at appeals but maybe some others would be better.

hedwig06 · 01/03/2011 08:33

bitsyandbetty,

I agree about Birmingham City Council a complete waste of time - for my older daughter they ignored all 6 choices, even though they were within catchment area, etc, and gave her a completely different school, which has been voted the worst in Birmingham, (I think).

That's why I'm so nervous for my 2nd DD Blush

But I'm not surprised that we in Brum, are still waiting, it typical of BCC .....

GhostInTheBackOfYourHead · 01/03/2011 08:39

Waiting in Tower Hamlets. Managed to speak to someone at the Council re website updating with outcomes as there is nothing there. They don't update website till tomorrow and they post the letters out today. Still have to wait....grrrrr.

GhostInTheBackOfYourHead · 01/03/2011 08:40

And Sad for those who didn't get what they wanted.

We were living in Brum when my DS was going to primary school and were not offered a place at any of the schools within walking distance. It was crazy. They seem to like the idea of busing kids around. We managed to get him into a catholic one in the end at the end of a waiting list. We moved out of the area after that.

willow · 01/03/2011 08:47

Foxinsocks - I've been prescribed codydramol 10mg/500mg tablets. (I've been told not to take naproxen, asprin etc.) They are pretty good at their job, almost too good. If I take them at night that's fine - I take two and they knock me out and I get some sleep - but if I have to take them again, either in the night or during the day, they wipe me out. Seem to have quite a cumulative effect - so if I do take in the day I only take one not two. No way I could drive or walk far right now - so lucky DS walks to school by himself !
