ok for htose of you who dont knwo teachers now have half and ady per week (!) to do planning preparationa and assessment

in that time your kid will be taught by someone else.

a lot of schools have recruited trained teachers for it BUT a lot of schools are doing it ont he cheap and using tas " supervised" byt he head. PSricularly on a friday after noon!!!( when kids are high as kites)

the staff do not have to remain on site at this time so there coudl be one head nad 10 odd tas.

i woudl urge you all to find out what your school has done for this time adn who is planning and supervising.

Well Christie, at the moment i'm supporting a NQT in KS 2. She is obviously qualified, but needs help and support in lots of areas. Including differenciation, and timing. (One lesson over ran by half an hour) This will improve with experience, plus the PPA time will give her the opportunity to consolidate her expectations with other more experienced teachers. (IYKWIM) I know she qets her nqt time for this but when the others are there it seems far more sensible.

i dont htink there shoudl be a choice between a supply teacher and a ta htough sshould there?
there shoudl be a trained teacher too cover other trained teachers
dont see why you think the choice is ohterwise.

"BUT if I had to choose betweenn a member of my support staff, who knows the students well, knows what strategies we are using for pupils with challanging behaviour and knows how I run the class covering my PPA time or a supply teacher who has never set foot in the class before but has QTS I would chooose the suppport staff member every time as I know she would do things the way I want them done"

sorry to quote

I think it would be good to have sport with a sports coach for that half a day as kids have way too little physical education and exercise at school. No need for teachers as sports coaches could do this role better than a teacher.

codsicle · 10/09/2005 15:28
