eBay new payment system that excluded PayPal

Does anyone use this? Is it compulsory? I'm used to PayPal now ( I only sell stuff like my old clothes, I'm in no way a business seller) and don't really want hassle getting my money. Any experience or feedback would help as I keep getting 'invited' and feel it may end up me making less money ( I tend to sell stuff at £10-15)

I have moved over and it’s rubbish . Payments take days to come through and you are expected to post items when e bay confirm they have the money so you won’t have received the postage . I think if you refuse to change your account may eventually be suspended. I only sell a few things so I am looking for another site .

stuckinarutatwork · 30/04/2021 07:12

I've found it ok. Takes about 2-3 days for money to come through though. I prefer it going straight into my bank account rather than PayPal.

Sooverthemill · 30/04/2021 07:24

@sandgrown what do you sell? I was wondering about either rushing through my pile of clothes I have to sell or else moving to depop or Vinted but I'm not young and feel those sites are really designed for a much younger age group which won't want my Boden summer dresses!

I hate the new system, it takes 2-3 days for the money to come through which means posting before you’ve received it. eBay also take their fees at that point now rather than monthly. I’m looking for elsewhere for sell now, clothes seems to go pretty quickly on Facebook marketplace.

Bananalanacake · 30/04/2021 08:26

Do you think they will lose customers over this, if it's more complicated no one will bother.

Sooverthemill · 30/04/2021 09:08

@amymel2016 the trouble for me is I am rural and mikes from anywhere so I've never managed to sell on FB. I need to be ab,e to hermes stuff

@Sooverthemill I sell clothes and unused gifts etc but not all the time. Usually when I was skint. I used to leave the money in my PayPal account if I could for when I needed to buy something . I think Vinted sells vintage clothes but I agree they seem to be for younger people . I have sold household stuff on Marketplace but not keen on people coming to the house.

sandgrown · 30/04/2021 15:14

I do think e bay will lose customers. The PayPal system meant almost instant payment which is a boon if you are selling because you need some money .

SmallPrawnEnergy · 30/04/2021 15:15

Vinted isn't just for vintage clothing, however if you're unhappy with the new eBay system you probably won't like Vinted. It's a similar system the buyer pays, vinted holds the money and shows as 'pending' and you post, only when the buyer logs back onto the app and confirms the order has arrived do they release your funds. I've had some right issues with it.

Whippet · 30/04/2021 15:17

The payment direct to bank account is OK, but I agree it used to be nice to have a little pot 'ring fenced' in Paypal for a raining day.
What I don't like is that the cost of postage labels still seems to be charged to Paypal so I no longer have an easy view of what my 'net' ebay income is. Does anyone know if I can change that?

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 30/04/2021 15:17

I think it is really bad people are being given no choice.

1987qwerty · 30/04/2021 17:40

Had a email saying l had to move over by end of May.

SATSmadness · 30/04/2021 18:07

I sell stuff no longer wanted/outgrown on e-bay, sometimes transferring proceeds to the dc if it was stuff they received a a gift such as outgrown popular brands of clothes/footwear.

Using Paypal has made it all so easy with postage/delivery al linked and paid out of the paypal account.
The changes mean that paypal charges will more or less be replaced by increased ebay charges with only a very very small saving for the seller, unless using one of those "sell for £1" offers.

I want to keep the ebay separate from my current account just because the transactions will clutter up the number of transactions when looking at the account.

Is anyone else thinking of setting up a new bank "ebay" account to keep things separate ?

Ebaying is time consuming and seeing the paypal balance grow has at times given me the motivation to keep going when I've a pile of items to list and would really rather just chuck it in the bag with the stuff set aside for the charity shop and veg out in front of the TV for the evening.

You'll also be worse off where you take cash on collection.

Gingefringe · 30/04/2021 19:07

As usual eBay have not considered the sellers - you know, those people that keep their business going - in all of this. I've just moved over to the new system and have yet to sell anything.
I've been selling on eBay for about 20 years and found Paypal straightforward and simple to use - I'm not keen on all transactions going through my bank account and eBay keeping hold of it for a couple of days.
We'll see ......

Gingefringe · 30/04/2021 19:08

My daughter uses Vinted and she's selling tons. I've found eBay sales very slow during the last few months.

Spiceyornicey · 30/04/2021 19:12

It’s scandalous and once the money is paid out by eBay it can still take several days to hit your bank.

Bluepanda86 · 30/04/2021 19:13

I changed mine in March so I wouldn't get hassled to change. Though it can be a pain for payouts - i try to get my items on sell to end close to the payout day which you can personally select. The fees are 0.1% better than paypal but still quite high if you don't use a seller offer to get sellings for £1. This offer hasn't really been on much since this new payout scheme but I try to use that to save money on fees when it is on. Not sure how successful it would be under this new plan.

drpet49 · 30/04/2021 19:14

I much prefer the new system. Yes you have to wait 1 or 2 days for your money but I have not found this to be an issue.

FeatheredHope · 30/04/2021 19:17

For anyone recommending Vinted, their trust pilot reviews are appalling.

Sooverthemill · 30/04/2021 19:21

I do t think anyone has actually recommended Vinted tbf but it exists! Depop too

I haven’t use it yet but I won’t be shipping anything until the money as cleared my bank account.

Can I ask why you prefer it?
cozycat1 · 01/05/2021 18:50

I was a bit hesitant but actually find it OK. I've set up a new bank account, a Monzo one, so all my ebay payments go into that. No money left in PayPal now and changed my PayPal linked bank account to my new one so labels cost comes from that too. I find I am checking my account in ebay more to check what payments are due to be coming to me. The £1 offers are great as no Paylpal fees on top. Hope they don't ditch them.

ViciousJackdaw · 01/05/2021 20:20

If that's your plan then please remember to adjust your despatch times accordingly so you don't get any bother from your buyers or Ebay itself for sending things late.
