Early Spring Clean : Anyone for a 400 pounds by Easter challenge?

Gameboy · 19/01/2007 13:44

Was listening to a radio programme the other day about making money from your old things and it made me realise how much stuff I've got 'waiting to go on eBay'.

Just wondered if anyone fancied a challenge to see how much we can each make from selling the unwanted stuff we have by Easter. I reckon I could get to about ?400 maybe?

We'd have to share our eBay names, and then keep a running total of everything we sell between now and 31st March?

For simplicity's sake I'd suggest we just tot up the totals invoiced (incl. P&P)rather than the net profit IYSWIM?
To include only unwanted items - not trading of new goods etc....

I thought if it became competitive it might spur me into action more !

I would like to join the challenge I need to raise £200 to pay for dd joint party that my dh will not fund because "he never had a party when he was a child"
"why do they have to be when the footy is on"
"what's all the fuss" three of the reasons/ whinges that hint that he is not into parties at all!!

Got lots of baby stuff toys travel cot swinging crib perfect for the cheap buy it now listing day.

cece · 22/01/2007 22:56

Can I join? I sold two items on Sunday Total £10 and have currently got one item listed. But I do have quite a few boxes of stuff waiting to be listed dotted around the house.

eBay name is; ytrewq10 (don't ask!)

Katz - DH has been watching cameras on Ebay - he reckons separates go for more than bundles, but of course selling separately is more hassle.

HTH

katzg · 23/01/2007 08:53

thanks for that PandaG - does he know about cameras at all then?

lazyline · 23/01/2007 09:13

I am a lurker normally, but need to fill up that overdraft, so someone could add me....

Haven't listed anything, and won't until the evening.

he knows a little about cameras, in that he used a film slr, then upgraded to a digital body for his lenses in the summer, and spent a while looking at prices to ensure he got a good deal, and had continued to watch what they go for. He has a few camera magazines, and has been playing with tweaking digital images, but his raw pics are nothing like as good as PT's DH. If you have any ebay camera q's I can always ask him, no promises he will know the answer though!

Gameboy · 23/01/2007 11:49

OOoo - persephonesnape - how did you do that?? (Show all our items) Will be funny if we all end up buying each other's stuff, but not making any money as a result

WriggleJiggle · 23/01/2007 19:55

Oh, this is all going terribly wrong. I haven't listed any items yet (dh hasn't told me which golf clubs need new homes), but I keep looking at other peoples items and thinking about bidding on them. Maybe I should aim to break even with my selling

WriggleJiggle · 23/01/2007 19:56

Don't suppose anyone's selling a chainsaw are they?

charliecat · 23/01/2007 19:57

persephonesnape · 23/01/2007 21:14

gameboy, if you go to advanced search and add everyones names seperated by commas then it will list us all!

camera · 23/01/2007 21:16

i think fiction books separ\te otherwise postage will be a lot.

nikkie · 23/01/2007 21:28

Just thinking of the ones that aren't particularly popular authors eg, box of chick lit 10 books £5 BIN +what ever postage?

Can we have a list of ebay names?

PoppiesMum · 24/01/2007 10:38

fannyannie · 24/01/2007 13:00

well I've got bids on 3 of my 13 items now - up to £26

katzg · 24/01/2007 13:43

does maternity wear sell well?

housemum · 24/01/2007 14:01

This sounds good - can I play too? Not likely to get £400 as I mostly have bits of kids' clothing but will try!! (Still can't decide whether or not to get rid of the pushchair but tbh will probably flog at the NCT sale as on eBay they can go up to £100 or as little as £20 for a Pliko - need to see how much eBay fees are for higher start price compared with NCT commission, or maybe a Free Ad in the local rag).

eBay id is nick_leonard2 so please kick me if I haven't listed by the weekend...

housemum · 24/01/2007 14:03

Katzg - maternity wear is a bit hit-and-miss, sometimes you are lucky but my friend has tried several items and none sold (she's a 14 so not an uusual size or anything and she has a good reputation). Try searching "completed listings" for items like yours to get a flavour of what has sold recently and for how much.
