Ebay Christmas challenge continuing into the new year!

My listings are doing terrible so far

Hiccup - things in the media category do cost 20p for a 30 day listing! All the time!

I have a bid on 1 item and watchers on 5 others so I have my fingers crossed for Tuesday evening! If I sell 3 or 4 things in total I will be happy.

Awww, Tortoise. :(. I am sure I'm getting lower prices than I would have done 4 months ago. Tis the time of year.

And I keep ending at bad times (not terrible, just not good, meaning 5-6pm rather than 7-9pm), which leads to folk sending messages "Is X still for sale? I forgot to bid, will you list again!?"

Out of about 50 listings I think I sold 9 this weekend, not too bad.

Sold the dolls pram only for the buyer to contact today saying they don't want it, it was her daughter who bid. Suppose I have to cancel it now. I was so pleased that it finally sold.

I have had quite a good week - sold 3 items through eBay and 1 through Gumtree. I have been off work with a fluey bug, so couldn't have coped with dealing with much more than that.

It is free listing again this weekend - so I hope I feel well enough by tomorrow to sort out some "new" stuff for listing. My brain has un-fogged now, but doing anything is still exhausting!

Tortoise - I think I'd take a risk and list it anyway. You can always cancel it if necessary.

My dilemma...I'm going out tonight - I know, school night and everything! - I'm leaving home about 7.45 and won't be home until about 11. Do I schedule everything for 9pm and pay the 6p or start the listing at 7.30/11pm?

Hiccup I'd start them at 7.30 tonight.

Not sure what to do about the pram. I know they don't want it. It was pick up only and they are miles away. Courier would make it expensive.

How frustrating.

I'm feeling a lot better today, but just could not face sorting out any new stuff to list. I have re-listed 10 items on eBay and one revised item on Gumtree. Some of the items are definitely on their last chance this week before being bundled off to the Charity Shop!

Relists done and put another pot noodle fork on that my brother won! Price seems to have dropped on them. Last one sold for £18!

I don't know how to take this. Last night I listed a load of specialist software manuals for a package I'll call R. R isn't widely used, although it was very whizz bang whizz back in the day. I hadn't used those manuals in 7 years. Nobody else will own manuals, everything is electronic now, but it's so much easier to use any software package with the manuals, much better interface.

Today I found a job requiring familiarity in R.

the job is so far away I would have to live away in the week if I took it.

Oh, and DD broke her arm today. As if to reinforce why I shouldn't be taking jobs far away.

lljkk -I have installed R on lots of machines. People here use it for Statistics Teaching..... I wonder what package you were really talking about!?

hahaha. Is R that widely used still? This is the first job I've seen in last 6 weeks that mentioned it. Excel & mySQL seem to be the most popular, followed by "business objects" and a huge number of other Acronyms. I've an SQL manual on my bedside table but it's so bloomin' 1970s thinking relational database stuff I can't be motivated to memorise any bits without an actual job interview looming on the horizon. conceptually it's easy peasy stuff.

the manuals I'm flogging are actually Splus (I've outed myself now).
the only command i can actually remember is ls() but I'm sure more would come back, lol.

Sorry for the babbling. I am a quiet big believer in omens but I can't read all of these! Is it to prove yet again that my hoarding instincts are actually a good thing and I shouldn't be Ebaying my life away after all?

I wondered if it was Splus you were talking about - people here used it before R was widely available for their own Research, but Minitab was used to teach the courses that R is now used in.

And I am another manual hoarder. I hate throwing anything away that might come in useful! And that goes for hardware too.....

Another nightmare problem! Sold a faulty laptop, spares or repairs. Buyer claiming parts missing inside (untrue), battery doesn't charge (untrue) and wants to return for full refund inc return costs.
Surely an item sold as faulty can't be returned because it's faulty?

Boy that's a tough one, I would ask on the Ebay seller fora, Tortoise. They are good for advice.

ps: Depends on description you wrote, but I think they haven't a ground to stand on re battery, so depends what they claim is missing, if it would have been reasonable to expect those bits inside. Get them to be very specific on missing parts, maybe.

I think you need to be careful re the laptop. The buyer can open a not as described dispute and make up any reason, and ebay will more than likely tell them to return it for a full refund

I would be wary that the buyer will return a different machine, or your machine with missing parts or switched parts. I would be mentioning serial numbers and security marks on the item to the buyer if I were you.

They said wires missing which is impossible! The battery works fine but I guess I cant prove that other than photo shows the laptop on before fault occurred.
I can't afford to refund over £100 .
