I made £35 in the end so I've re-listed what didn't sell and will have a scoot around friday when DS is at nursery and list some more.
One quick question though- my listing states that I post within the UK, I have just gone to package up something and realised that the buyer lives in Belguim! She's paid £6 postage but I'm not sure where that figure came from. I did message her and say I don't post outside of the UK but haven't heard back. Do I have to post it to her or should I just refund?

nsjuly · 18/04/2012 22:08

Would the £6 cover the postage? If it does then I would go ahead and send it to the buyer, sure why not?

SomebodySaveMe · 18/04/2012 22:14

I don't know if it will, I've never posted abroad before!
I think I'll send it anyway. I don't want to run the risk of negative feedback and she must really want it if she's willing to pay £6 postage for a 99p dress.

nsjuly · 18/04/2012 22:38

Well as far as I remember it only costs about ?1 more (max) for me to send something anywhere in Europe compared with posting within Ireland so it should be reasonable for you too. That's for something weighing 300-500g.

CointreauVersial · 18/04/2012 23:43

SSM - £6 postage is very generous - I've never had a foreign buyer just pay a random amount; they normally wait for the invoice, which pops up with a blank in the postage space so you can fill in the appropriate price before you send it.

You can check on the Royal Mail website - just key in the weight and destination and it'll tell you the postage.

Anyway, I sold my bunk bed for £50 today - this is the one that sold originally for £31, then the buyer wouldn't collect, and I had to open a dispute. So thanks, mate, you made me an extra £19!!

Total is therefore up to £72.50, and Pippa and Co will definitely take me past Bronze at the weekend.

PurpleFrog · 19/04/2012 10:14

I had 9 items that finished on Tuesday - only sold 2 - but that was OK since they were all re-lists. One was my first ever "collection only" sale in nearly 10 years of eBaying! After all the horror stories on here I was really glad to find that the buyer actually did live in my area! His wife picked the stuff up last night, so that is one more pile gone from our upstairs landing.

I couldn't face rushing to get more things organised/washed/ironed last weekend after returning from holiday so have nothing on eBay just now. I should really start on that soon so that I am ready take advantage of the next free listing weekend that pops up.

carrotsandcelery · 19/04/2012 10:32

baabi I know exactly what you mean. I have fancy dress outfits listed just now which would probably make more money in October but I just want them out of the house.

Cointreau RESULT! on the bunk beds! Hurrah for the strange buyer Grin

Purple I always wish I could just get into the habit of listing 1 or 2 a day and scheduling them as far in the future as I can and keeping them on file so to speak until a free listing weekend. I haven't really managed it yet but I am sure I would do more careful listings if I did.

I have £23+ worth of bids so far for this week so happy enough so far. I aim for about £30 a week and know that some weeks it goes above and some weeks it goes below etc.

Ben 10 fancy dress seems to be attracting a lot of interest.

PurpleFrog · 19/04/2012 11:05

carrotsandcelery Unless your fancy dress outfits are witches or skeletons I don't think they would necessarily make more money in October. They are probably competing against fewer outfits at the moment, anyway!

I usually create my listings in a text file, where I also record things like weight and postal options, then I paste it into the eBay selling form, but it is always the photos that are my stumbling block, particularly over the winter months. I much prefer taking pictures in good natural light.

What I should really do is start to collect all the potential eBay stuff together in one place - maybe a crate(s) in the spare bedroom. At present I have things scattered throughout the house and loft, so always end up doing a lot of searching before I can begin listing.

carrotsandcelery · 19/04/2012 11:21

There is one skeleton and there is a spider as well. I also have 2 cats listed, although there is probably a wider market for them.

I was keeping all my ebay stuff in 2 boxes under the bed but there is so much stuff now that isn't working and it has taken over the lounge. It is not a good solution though so hopefully it will all sell and get out of my house Grin

CointreauVersial · 19/04/2012 12:48

My eBay stuff occupies a pile of boxes in our loft. As soon as I take something out of the pile to sell, it seems to get replaced with two items, so the pile grows ever bigger! Our loft is massive, and has doorway access, so it's very easy to shut the door on the pile and forget about it.

I've sold a few collection-only items over the years - one was a garden table and chairs made of cast iron, so heavy that I struggled even to lift a chair. After it was sold I was horrified when I noticed the buyer's address was the Isle of Wight (we are in Surrey)!! But he said "oh no, I'm driving past yours with a trailer next week; I'll pick it up then", and off it went. Apparently he lived on top of a cliff and his old garden furniture kept blowing away in the wind. Grin

toobreathless · 19/04/2012 18:58

CV: I am Envy at your walk in loft! Think I'd like a walk in loft more than a walk in wardrobe.

Sloooow week here. Only one bid on my eight items & a handful of watchers despite two Mini Boden items which usually attract 20+ watchers.

Hope everyone else is having a better week.

Tortoise · 19/04/2012 20:23

Very little interest so far. Glad booster seat has a bid though. Good to get bigger items out the way!
Sold a xbox game, a bit naughty as it was listed on ebay but someone local offered £22 for it and collection today so I accepted and removed from ebay. Unfortunately its DS2 who gets that money!
All my stuff is in or in front of the understairs cupboard!

Listed ps2 plus games. Chanced a buy it now of £35 or best offer based on completed listings.

The bunk bed (£50) was collected today - lovely chap who needs new bed-space for new foster-child. I do like it when things go to someone nice/deserving.

Toobreathless - the walk-in loft is a mixed blessing. It's like a black hole of junk. A 26 foot long black hole. Blush

carrotsandcelery · 19/04/2012 23:14

Cointreau I know exactly what you mean. We got a lovely email from one buyer telling us what a difference the item had made for her dd. It made me feel like we are helping others as well as ourselves. Smile

Eeeek! NewBag what did you find for £400 on ebay? Shock

I have 9 items with bids on them. Get into your dressing up hampers ladies and dig out all the outgrown items as they seem to be popular!

There have been tiny bidding wars on 2 of the items as well and one outfit has 9 watchers.

Total so far is £36 so my dh won't be retiring either but it will go in the summer holiday fun fund Grin

Gef · 20/04/2012 16:24

twelve items, 119 watchers... only 2 items have bits on, come on people...

have made £15.97 in bids so far.

Gef · 20/04/2012 16:25

bids on. not bits. probably are bits but I pick 'em off before I pack.

CointreauVersial · 20/04/2012 18:02

Thanks for reminding me about dressing up stuff. Must dig it out!

Tortoise · 20/04/2012 19:31

Sega game gear has a bid. This sold last time but buyer never paid. Hope these do! Everything ends later tonight.
Have 5 items scheduled for Sunday. 2 lovely mini Boden nighties age 11-12. Would fit DDs but need the money more.

OP posts:
carrotsandcelery · 20/04/2012 19:38

Gef what are you selling that has attracted so many watchers?

carrotsandcelery · 20/04/2012 19:39

I am steadily laundering the dressing up stuff so that it is as fresh as possible. I am scared to put things in together and doing them all on a delicate wash after washing the big "S" sign off dd's Supergirl outfit last week Blush

Tortoise · 20/04/2012 21:03

Made about £100 on tonights items. Game gear buyer is local so wants to collect.
Really disappointed my old Amstrad didn't sell despite 10 watchers. Some has offered me £30 for it but I really think its worth more. Not sure what to do about it.

OP posts:
carrotsandcelery · 20/04/2012 21:17

If you think it is worth more Tortoise then relist it with a reserve. You know me, I don't like to just give stuff away! Grin
