Hi everyone, can I join?

I've been meaning to sell some things for ages, so I've finally listed a few things on eBay Smile. I'll be very much learning as I go though.

AdventuresWithVoles · 30/06/2012 17:06

Eek, that's odd, I went to relist something (scheduled) & it came up as no fees.
Why?

LineRunner · 30/06/2012 19:03

Sorry about your dad, too, Snowball. Welcome back (I'n new so that sounds a bit wanky but I hope you know what I mean.)

RecursiveMoon, and I've just listed a few things (took ages but I'm hoping to speed up.)

Adventures, it's all a blur tbh.

I wonder what's the most crap thing anyone actually ever sold on ebay??

RecursiveMoon · 30/06/2012 21:06

LineRunner, have you bought some things from eBay so that you have some good feedback? I've only bought a few things so far. Do you have any bids or any watchers on your items?

LineRunner · 30/06/2012 21:18

No. I've never bought. But I'm hoping that being new, and putting a dozen or so decent items on at 99p (auction) - and being reliable about posting - will get me some good feedback.

The items are a mix of clothes, DVDs and a couple of X Box games. Anyone who gets them at 99p or a couple of quid will be very lucky! A few watchers, and low bids, so here's hoping.

But I'm hoping for good feedback, as a result of my opening gambit, so I'll build from that.

RecursiveMoon · 30/06/2012 23:54

I've listed ~6 items so far, mostly new shoes, clothes etc. I've been surprised by how difficult it is to take a decent photo actually. I've been sticking to pretty factual for the descriptions.

My mistakes so far:
Being too impatient to wait for a free listings w/e.
Not putting the size in the title.
Taking non-optimal photos.
Setting a starting bid at £5 (£4.99 would have been cheaper WRT fees).

Grin That's all that I'm aware of.

SNOWBall4girlz · 01/07/2012 00:09

thank you for the nice messages :)
and line runner I know what you mean :)

No free listing this weekend I was hoping as well.
I have only 15 items on with no bids and three watchers.
Need to list loads kids keep growing. Got shoes jeans tops loads of stuff thinking of putting into small bundles to take advantage of the new postage rates.
Good luck everyone :)

LineRunner · 01/07/2012 12:35

Hi Snowball. Smile

Got any advice about the new postage rates? It's so expensive now.

LineRunner · 01/07/2012 12:38

Recursive - yes I've just realised I should have put the size of clothes in the title, too! Fortunately I can go back and revise.

And my photos are a bit rubbish. Hey ho.

LineRunner · 01/07/2012 15:15

Oh. It won't let me revise the title.

Lesson learned, eh?

RecursiveMoon · 01/07/2012 20:25

That's odd LineRunner, I revised mine, although I wasn't able to revise the one with a bid on it.

Someone has messaged me to ask if I have a Buy it now price for one of my items. Arg, what should I do?

LineRunner · 01/07/2012 20:28

Oh, so I can revise one without a bid on? Thanks.

Dunno about the other one. I think there's a thread somewhere, though!

RecursiveMoon · 02/07/2012 07:00

I thanked the Buy It Now requester for her interest and said that I couldn't add a BIN as someone had already placed a bid on the item, but that I hoped she would consider joining the auction - and she did Smile!

I'm going to list a couple more things this week.

LineRunner · 02/07/2012 20:29

I'm pissed off that within just a few days of starting selling that I've already had a buyer retract a bid on the grounds that they 'didn't mean to bid that much'. It was only £5 ffs.

I mean, what IS the point? Not impressed.

SNOWBall4girlz · 02/07/2012 21:30

As regards postal rates line runner the new rates mean that you can send up to 750g packet for 3.15 second class recorded and for 3.65 first class.

It means that you can send two or three kids clothes together and the buyer does not have to pay lots of postage.
Single items go cheaper if youcan fold them flat and are no bigger than a4 so count as a large letter.

LineRunner · 02/07/2012 21:37

Thanks, SNOWball, that's helpful. I actually bought some cheap scales today to be able to estimate p&p rates better!

wheredidyoulastseeit · 03/07/2012 17:00

This thread is brill, it has motivated me to use both Gumtree and Ebay and I have learnt loads, My current net profit total is £250 and that is after i have subtracted paypal fees and postal costs. Although paypal fees seem to very high for example .40p on a £5.74 total sale. does it get cheaper if you sell for a higher amount.

LineRunner · 03/07/2012 18:20

Wow, people really do like backing out of bids on ebay...

Yes this is a brill thread; have learned load - many thanks, OP and all others.

Sadly I have only made £1.07 (net) so far, but it's a start. Grin

RecursiveMoon · 04/07/2012 12:15

Can anyone help? Someone has messaged me to say that they're watching 2 of my items, and to ask if they can collect them if they win the auctions. I know to accept cash only for collection, but does there need to be a PayPal payment on eBay to complete the loop? Confused

mygirllollipop · 04/07/2012 13:47

After thinking that I had cleared the house out ready for the move, and that I wouldn't have much to sell on ebay - I have made gold! Think the figure is around £366 with LOADS more listed/to be listed.

RecMoon - you just mark the item/s as paid in your selling part and ebay is happy with that.

fergoose · 04/07/2012 14:01

Recursivemoon - nope, no need to complete with paypal. Just mark as paid once buyer has collected and given you the cash.

RecursiveMoon · 04/07/2012 20:18

Thanks mygirl and fergoose!

My first auction finishes tonight, I'm very excited Blush.

LineRunner · 04/07/2012 21:24

Good luck!

I just bought something.

I failed.

RecursiveMoon · 04/07/2012 22:02

I just bought something too Grin.

LineRunner · 05/07/2012 11:07

I'm not meant to be spending money! This is a disaster. I need to be stopped.

Now I'll have to sell even more of my DD's clothes.
