What's the dress wierdscience? Link please?

I went to the PO today to post my last two sales only to be told that I can't post perfume out of Ireland due to aviation laws! I emailed the buyer straight away to let her know and offered to refund her or else send it over to the UK when my SIL is home next week and she would take it back to London and post it. She was so nice and understanding and opted for the refund which I did immediately. She said she will still leave positive feedback as it was an unfortunate mistake and advised me to contact eBay and ask for a refund of sellers fees. So disappointing though as it was a £30 sale. Oh well! Lots of bids coming through for the 28 items listed for the next week so fingers crossed.

weirdscience · 18/05/2012 10:08

Just to clarify when I said I would love to make £400 in meant in total not just on the dress! Grin

This is the dress here It now has 49 watchers, I am honestly shocked! I would be delighted to even get £10 for it.

I have 52 things currently on, about 10 of them end tonight, I will also relist some unsold things tonight and that's pretty much all I have left, although might have another look around the house! Grin

Pity about the perfume, that is really annoying, I didn't realise there were laws about things like that! It's always good to get a decent buyer, makes everything so much easier when there is a problem.

bobkate · 18/05/2012 13:46

weird it's a good job your girls stuff is older girls stuff otherwise I'd probably spend what I make on some of your bits!!! Good luck with the dress...it is a lovely dress Smile I've now got some bids and some watchers so hoping the weekend brings more Smile Got another box of stuff to get loaded on ready for the next free listing too, got my old oboe which I saw one the same go for about £200 so that would be fab if I could get the same.

weirdscience · 19/05/2012 15:05

Thanks Bob Smile A few of my things including the dress end tonight, although I have now nearly spent all of the money I've made Blush but DD and I have new clothes and shoes for our holiday, so it's all good!

Good luck with your oboe, would be great to get £200 for it, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

RachelHRD · 19/05/2012 15:12

Good luck weirdscience all of mine finish tomorrow evening but looking promising so far.

Think of it as recycling you are merely recycling the old to make way and pay for the new Wink

carrotsandcelery · 19/05/2012 21:34

I have been asked to post to Greece. I feel very wary. Is that unfair or would you feel the same?

RachelHRD · 20/05/2012 12:10

Maybe only quote for tracked postage which might put them off?? It's a difficult one as you don't know what the country's postal system is like!

carrotsandcelery · 20/05/2012 13:14

Good idea Rachel thank you. I don't like making an assumption but I can't deny that I am wary.

SmallShips · 20/05/2012 20:17

Can I join? Have been putting off listing for months weeks but finally got around to it tonight. Not looking forward to the trip to the PO. Listings are here

bobkate · 20/05/2012 20:47

Well I sold 8 things and made £37 so happy with that. Got a quick question...one lady brought 2 of my things so I could do combined postage. She's already paid and not made any mention of if I could combine it. I've emailed her and said I will try to find out how I could give her a bit of a refund on the postage ( sending both items will still come to £3.15 ) but I've no idea how to go about giving a refund...any easy way to do this? And if she's made no mention of it should I have just thought yippee I've made a little extra?!

carrotsandcelery · 20/05/2012 20:55

It is really easy to give a refund. I think you click on "view paypal transaction" and then a refund option is somewhere on the screen and you follow the steps. You are also automatically refunded some selling fees too.

carrotsandcelery · 20/05/2012 21:00

My ebay page is acting up a bit but it looks like just £27 for me this week. I think that brings me to a total of £257 so I am creeping my way towards gold steadily.

How long do I have to make the last £43?

bobkate · 20/05/2012 21:03

Thanks carrots. Well silly me didn't wait to see if anyone had any help, so sent her a payment using her email. So won't get a selling fee reduction either! Oh well - serves me right for being impatient. Still at least I feel good that I've done the right thing.
I think I remember hearing on the news that there's 10 weeks to go until the olympics so a while yet Smile... I don't know whether to wait for the next free listing or to just go for it straight away....do you all wait for the free listings?

RachelHRD · 20/05/2012 21:50

A good evening for me £192 so that makes my total £585 so far Grin sadly all going to the overdraft but hey ho it all helps. I have very few clothes left now but a couple of my big items (boots and a necklace) didn't go despite having quite a few watchers so I'll relist them next time.

Think I may need to bundle up some of my baby clothes as they are only going in dribs and drabs.

bobkate I usually wait for free listings as it means you can at least make more than 99p per item! There are usually a couple a month at the moment so I reckon next weekend will be one.

PurpleFrog · 20/05/2012 22:24

Nah - I bet they wait until the Jubilee weekend and have a 4 day spectacular!

bobkate · 20/05/2012 22:45

I think I'll wait too... it'll give me time to get my listings done. Got another 6 ready tonight. rachel wow - that's an impressive total! Grin

OhNoMyFanjo · 20/05/2012 23:19

Either I am pricing things just right or things aren't going for much at tge moment.

carrotsandcelery · 21/05/2012 09:52

I am only getting little flutters of bidding wars at the moment ie 20p over the asking price and things like that.

I also have a lot of unsolds but I do have some weird and wonderful stuff to sell so that is not an absolute surprise.

I am surprised that an immaculate mini boden top has not sold for weeks though. I will have to check that listing and make sure I haven't made a massive error in it.

OhNoMyFanjo · 21/05/2012 10:00

I've just taken a boden dress off, will save till after tge summer now, only one watcher but it has long sleeves?

weirdscience · 21/05/2012 10:01

Well done Rachel!

I sold more stuff over the weekend, so I have a big trip to the post office planned for later, like you fanjo, I feel that while most of my stuff is selling it's not going for much, but at least it is getting it out of the house and I am making something (trying to look on the bright side!!)

I have 7 items that are unpaid, I have a case opened on 2 of them, but no one looks like they are willing to pay. Does anyone know how long unpaid items stay opened for and what happens if the buyer doesn't pay? Will I just get fees back and be able to relist?

RachelHRD · 21/05/2012 10:15

Kids clothes don't seem to be going that well at the moment but my stuff has pretty much all been selling and I even sold 2 of DH's tops!

They have 4 days to pay from the time you open the case weirdscience then you can close it and get your fees back here then you can either relist or do a second chance offer if applicable. I've only had one person not respond to a case being opened - for most it's the kick up the bum reminder to pay!!

wheredidyoulastseeit · 21/05/2012 17:26

Can I join? I had already started before i spotted this thread, i have sold a Karen Millen Jacket, Boden trousers and red dress and cleared 18 after postage, and paypal charges, after paying commision to paypal on a 99p sale i'm wondering if it is worth it.
could someone explain to me why ebay are telling me that I'm only allowed to sell 10 items a month?
Have now put a couple of bikes and a trampoline on gumtree to get round the high commission that ebay and paypal charge. I sold one bike yesterday for £35 with no costs and that was good

Running total is £53 net profit

carrotsandcelery · 22/05/2012 10:02

Hi wheredidyoulastseeit - I get round the pointless 99p sales by waiting for free listing weekends and then not selling for 99p. I tend to put things on at the minimum price I am prepared to sell them for.

The 10 item limit can be lifted if you click on an "increase my selling limit" link. Paypal will then transfer 2 tiny amounts of money to your bank account. You then confirm the transfers and you will then be allowed to sell up to 100 items a month.

I think gumtree and ads in the local paper are probably the best place for the big items that are tricky to post unless you are in a built up area where lots of buyers might be in travelling/collecting distance. I am in rural Scotland so the chances of ebay working for me for a big item are slim.

wheredidyoulastseeit · 22/05/2012 10:11

Thanks for the advice Carrots, it is very useful. after a very expensive trip to the vets yesterday i think i will be definitely going for gold on this thread and upping my sales limit.

carrotsandcelery · 22/05/2012 13:26

I hope all is ok at the vets Sad

You will be amazed by how you can build up the cash if you keep selling though. Good luck.
