Do you have to print onto sticks?

HateBeingCantDoUpMyJeans · 27/04/2012 19:31

*stickers

Tortoise · 27/04/2012 20:55

No, onto A4 paper then cut to size and sellotape onto parcel.

Got a problem. Sold Amstrad off of ebay and he collected tonight. Now he is saying its stopped working when he started to load a game. No power to screen and he's tried changing fuse. Not sure what to do about it to be honest.

Hi there - wondered if I could pop my head in! I'm not too great at regularly posting but I've just spent hours ( and hours and hours ) getting my listings ready for sunday and I long to emulate some of your successes!
Those of you who are experts, is there anyway I can send you a link before my listings go live so you can cast your expert eyes over and tell me where I've hit the mark or where I'm way off?!
If not, if I link when it goes live can I make any necessary revisions then?

Tortoise · 27/04/2012 21:09

Bobkate No, we can't view before they go live but you can revise after if there are any errors. I'm sure we can check them for you after you link them here Smile.

OP posts:
bobkate · 27/04/2012 21:41

I thought that was probably the case, as in can't link before they go live. But good to know I can revise after. I'm really hoping I've done ok - one of our dogs has cost us just over £500 this week with 2 bloomin operations...waah, plus numerous other things that are broken, needed, coveted!!! Can't wait for Sunday now. Thanks for the tip previously about the bags too, I hope that wasn't the only good tip I got from reading this post Smile
Items are just being washed ( smelt a bit loft-y so thought they could be freshened up ) ready to iron tomorrow. And I don't do ironing ordinarily! A dreaded job!!

dizzyday07 · 27/04/2012 22:38

B*gger! One of the aftershaves I sold has been collected from the PO 10 days later and now he's saying it doesn't smell like it should - apparently he's been to Boots and compared it! I've told him to return it but that's £23 taken from my total!

HateBeingCantDoUpMyJeans · 28/04/2012 00:18

Dizzy I find that really funny, can you picture him there spraying the boots one then sniffing himself to double check Confused. Bet he comes back with no it's ok I'll keep it if you knock x off.

HateBeingCantDoUpMyJeans · 28/04/2012 00:21

Bobkate as its free listing just list and then link here, you can always cancel tge listing and relist with amendments and at the time you'd like it to finish.

HateBeingCantDoUpMyJeans · 28/04/2012 00:22

Fab thanks Tortoise

Shit news about the amstrad

dizzyday07 · 28/04/2012 00:46

Hate - apparently that's what he did and advised me to do the same! I have a perfume allergy so sniffing fragrances is not something I do very often Smile

He's returning it tomorrow so whilst I'll lose out on a couple of ££ postage it's not the end of the world.

bobkate · 28/04/2012 09:41

Thanks for the tip Hate - I'll be posting my link up tomorrow Smile.
Sorry going to ask another question. As I haven't got my poly packing bags yet I've been improvising with a jiffy bag of the similar size. Putting say babies shoes in the bag and weighing. Say, for example, it comes to 203g.. am I right to round it up a little to say 220g to account for any extra packing, ie paper to wrap item in, tape, etc. I think on the postage estimator that came to about 2.49 or similar so I've round up to £2.75 for postage ( 2nd class recorded ). Does that sound about reasonable? Not sure if I should take a few things to the post office today to check the weight there and make sure I'm not way off...

carrotsandcelery · 28/04/2012 12:00

bobkate love your name (am assuming it's a BlackAdder one! Grin)

Ask as many questions as you think of. We all learn from them and we have all asked hundreds of questions either here or on previous threads.

Your postage sounds about right. I use plastic postage bags and usually weigh the item then round it up a fair bit just incase. I have never had a postage price complaint. I add on a little, as you suggest, to cover the cost of the bag, bubble wrap, tape etc.

I bought lots of bubble wrap on ebay in huge rolls as well as it was much, much cheaper than from our local shop (rural).

bobkate · 28/04/2012 12:53

Thanks carrots - yep it is a bit blackadder inspired so much so when we got our first dog...he had to be called bob ( and I'm kate ) so bobkate it is!
My poly bags arrived today! Yay! And been to the post office to check my scales are right, and to pick up a new price leaflet. All my items under 750g for second class recorded are going to be £3.15 ( £2.20 + £0.95 for recorded in case that helps anyone! ) actual postage...so I was thinking maybe charge £3.45? Is that about right? Going to have to list my 2 pairs of mat. jeans separately now as they come in just over 1k and that's the cut off for 2nd class recorded, and first class would mean postage of £6.55 and the limit is £4.75 - so that's not ideal!

carrotsandcelery · 28/04/2012 13:16

I used to have a dog called Bob too. Grin I am not called Kate though Sad

I don't know much about recorded postage. The "Postmistress" in our village is a friend so we usually have a chat and I ask awkward questions about the cost of recorded before I send more valuable items. The price you are suggesting seems fair though.

bobkate · 28/04/2012 13:24

What kind of dog was your Bob? Ours is a silly spaniel who has cost us over £500 this week Sad however he's worth it! I feel like I'm okay with my postage costs now just the margin to add - good to know you think it's fair.

AkhalTeke · 28/04/2012 13:39

new name, have been on these threads before.

£155 in last couple of weeks, going to do some listings tonight then go live with them tomorrow.

sold a shabby, tatty but usable item this week, having stated it was shabby, tatty but useable, and displayed all it's shabby tattiness in the pics. It got about 20 watchers and a bit of a bidding war, went for easily twice what it is worth, now am quaking in my boots and checking my feedback and messages every five minutes in case the buyer isn't pleased with their purchase. I couldn't have been more honest about condition, but that doesn't stop a buyer regretting bidding so high and coming back to me in a strop (bitter experience).

jardy · 28/04/2012 13:50

I tend to charge between 2-3 pounds postage for everything including jeans.
I hope that way to get good feedback.Akhal,I have sold shabby stuff but made it very clear in the description,it sounds as though you have been totally honest and upfront and so you will be unlucky if you get negative feedback. It is a worry though, you have to keep your fingers crossed!Twice I have had a request for a refund and I have told them to keep the item and refunded them totally. Each time I have got lovely feedback.I would be miffed it was something valuable but on the whole I balance the positive feedback and satisfaction of a good selling experience against the occasional nasty experience or disappointing experience.Made 175 pounds in one month, which seeing as they are just a few pounds each generally I think I should feel proud of myself!Another way I like to work is that I NEVER print off postage labels, this never worked for me.I got in a mess and it affected my confidence.I like to go to the P.O in the old fashioned way and have each item weighed.I like the contact with the P.O staff and also their advice is helpful. This is the way I work Ebay.At the begining I was about to give up,but you find as you go on your confidence and paypal balance grows!

Tortoise · 28/04/2012 14:57

I haven't replied to Amstrad buyer again yet. I really don't know what to say. It was working fine when I tested it. He said he had games at home already so is he trying to pull a fast one? If it had been through ebay he could have put a claim in by now.

OP posts:
weirdscience · 28/04/2012 16:51

It sounds a bit odd if it was working for you?! I hate when there are problems! Sad

I have 8 items ending tonight, apartfrom one jacket nothing is doing that well. I have also added a few items today with a scheduled start and I will add some more tomorrow too.

I've added a brand new necklace that I was given as a gift I've never worn, it has a tag on it of 63 euros (it is Swarovski) I don't think I will get near that but I have put it on for £20 start now unsure if that is too high, but didn't want t to go for really low either, and I hate reserves...waaah not sure!! Grin

Puffinsaresmall · 28/04/2012 16:56

Weird - think you need better photos they're a bit washed out? You could use Picasa if you don't already. I've got lots of ds games and books I'm listing later. Oh and girls girls, but I can't find any enthusiasm yet Grin

ragged · 28/04/2012 17:52

Gawd I'm pants, having a brainless weekend so I'm sure I'll only manage to list stuff that didn't sell previously. Good luck to (me & ) you all.

bobkate · 28/04/2012 19:05

weird just wanted to let you know that on your H & M skinny jeans for 9/10 yr olds... ( item 280870402373 ) you've listed as black but in the photo they're blue....thought it was worth me pointing out.
I'm so excited about my listings going live tomorrow - I sooooo hope they sell and do well!!! Good luck to everyone else..I'm excited to get cracking on the next lot already. Don't want to swamp myself with too many listings to begin with ( being optimistic that they'll all sell and I'll have a manic day of packing and posting! )

notcitrus · 28/04/2012 20:24

45 watchers on my double buggy - a record for me! And that's after lots stopped watching after I got a bid.
31 on a raincover, and 4 bids already.

And for some reason only 1 watcher on a baby bjorn - I've just swapped the pic to be of the carrier not the change bag it comes in to see if that gets more interest, otherwise I'll relist them separately tomorrow night.

Can't find a tape measure to do listings of clothes...

weirdscience · 28/04/2012 21:00

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I have been taking the photos with my phone and uploading everything using the ebay app, but you are right the photos are rubbish, so what I am saving in time I am probably losing in quality! The jeans are actually black, but they really don't look it in the photo do they, I will retake, thanks everyone!

I made another £40ish tonight, which wasn't too bad. Hope everyone's sells well, fingers crossed for us all! Grin
