Anyone interested in a £300 by Easter ebay selling thread?

carrotsandcelery · 05/01/2012 23:05

Inspired by the threads before Christmas, I was hoping we could get another thread going to motivate us as we sell and ask each other questions as we go along.

I am hoping to start selling again once the dc go back to school next week.

Anyone else want to join me?

:) Carrotsandcelery We've moved from a 3 bed in 2009 to a 1 bed in 2011 and now we're in a 1 bed (see the house ££ difference in Manchester, Bournemouth and London) and we haven't really got rid of anything apart from furniture so it is time to dowsize. In fact that was my resolution this year: downsize our stuff, downsize our debt and downsize my weight.

Challenges like this really helps - as do free listing days :)

carrotsandcelery · 17/01/2012 14:22

Well ebay should help with all three challenges rebecklet. Sell your stuff to pay off debt. Sell your stuff to empty your home a bit. Sell your stuff to distract yourself from munching. Result! Good luck with it all. Smile

How long would you expect to wait for payment? I have 2 items sold on Saturday, still unpaid for. One has been in touch and explained the delay but I've heard nothing from the other. I'll send her a reminder email tomorrow, but apart from that how long do I leave it before giving up and relisting or second chance offering?

fergoose · 17/01/2012 17:09

If a buyer doesn't pay by day 4 I start the unpaid item dispute in the resolution centre. Then if no payment you close on day 7 to get your final value fees back.

Once that is completed you can then either do a second chance offer or relist, but if you do either of these before completing the unpaid item process you run the risk of 2 buyers, 1 item, so you need to do the unpaid item process first.

Runoutofideas · 17/01/2012 17:11

Thanks fergoose - that's really helpful.

fergoose · 17/01/2012 17:19

:)

roguepixie · 17/01/2012 18:05

Thanks from me too Fergoose. I gave a number of items still unpaid and whilst this has happened before I have often wondered what the etiquette is for how long I should wait before sending a reminder/opening a case.

fergoose · 17/01/2012 18:20

happy to help :)

I finally started listing today, better late than never! It is time consuming though isn't it?!

Someone above mentioned their monthly selling allowance, I never knew there was such a thing? How do I see what my limit is?

roguepixie · 18/01/2012 07:20

As far as I understand, for myself, you get 100 free listings each month when you start at 99p or below. Go to your 'My Ebay' then scroll down to the bottom, on the right hand side there is a little box - it should show you how many of these free listings you have used and how many you have left. This is available every month - so as the month turns (on the 2nd I think) it gets re-set to 100. There are also the free listing weekends where you can list for free at any price so start your listings above 99p. Hope this helps and hope I have got it right Confused.

carrotsandcelery · 18/01/2012 08:46

If your allowance is 10 items you can apply to extend your selling allowance.

Oh will have a look, brilliant, thanks! I've been merrily listing away, didn't know I might get stopped!!

PurpleFrog · 18/01/2012 10:25

roguepixie - I can't see the box you are talking about. Is it because I don't tend to list many things at 99p, and definitely haven't over the past month? Is it in the box entitled "Listing Offers"? On mine that just says "Take advantage of our listing offers and save. Find out how"

rebecklet · 18/01/2012 12:03

You won't get stopped Caz10 you'll just be charged to list after the 100 free.

The box is called Listing Offers PurpleFrog, if you haven't listed any at 99p in the last month that would explain why there are no stats.

PurpleFrog · 18/01/2012 12:54

Thanks rebecklet - I had a look to see if there were some options I hadn't turned on, but couldn't find any!

roguepixie · 18/01/2012 13:29

Sorry PurpleFrog - wasn't ignoring you, had to go to work. You got the info from rebecklet anyway so all's good. Smile

PurpleFrog · 18/01/2012 13:56

That's OK - roguepixie - I never expect instant answers to anything! I'm actually at work too - but it is lunch time...... Grin

rebecklet · 19/01/2012 12:41

Woohoo! Just breached the £300 mark - now at £315 :)

How is everyone else doing?

Runoutofideas · 19/01/2012 13:50

Well done rebecklet! Not doing anywhere near as well as you. Still at £35 at the moment - but have another pile of stuff ready to list....

Caz10 · 19/01/2012 19:49

Wow well done! What kinds of things are you listing?

SamsGoldilocks · 19/01/2012 21:28

i'm a latecome to this list but it looks like there's a lot of expreience out there that i need to tap your barains about :

a) does anyone know when the next free listings weekend is

b) is it better to list items at 99p and see what happens or price them closer to the price you'd like to get - eg. I have a baby carrier that i'd liek to sell and would like to get at least £30 for it but i aslo have a p & T 's double buggy that i wouldn't want to sell for less than £250 - i have been watching similar items so i think i'm being realistic

c) has anyone else got any really good listing tips to help me on my way ?

Thank you for reading all this essay.

boogiewoogie · 19/01/2012 22:08

No idea when the next free listing is. I'm predicting either this weekend or next since they have them about 1 every 2/3 weeks.

I generally do not start items at 99p unless I am happy to let it go for that but others may argue that they get lots of bids that way and a decent price. I list items at a minimum that I want to get it for on free listing weekends. I would much rather have 1 bid at £20 say than 10 bids at £10. Up to you of course.

Tip: End auctions when people are most likely to be on line to bid. i.e the evening rather than working hours.

sleepevader · 20/01/2012 04:53

Free listings weekend. Yay!

rebecklet · 20/01/2012 07:21

Just got an email: Free listings on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 January!

Caz10 I got in to Disney Pin trading and I am selling off my traders - some of them were quite pricey to buy so if you take out the original cost to buy the pins, my total profit is currently at £148. Also, the little monkeys on my Kipling bags, and then when I'm done with those it will be clothes, books etc

SamsGoldilocks I always tend to do a mix, some 99ps that I know will get bid up, some 99ps which I am happy to go for 99p and then the ones I paid a specific price for I list on free weekends. I always try and list as much as I can all in one go so that people buy more to save on postage.

CointreauVersial · 20/01/2012 11:02

Hoorah - free listing time! I'm going to have a good listing session this pm (scheduled for the weekend then edited at the last moment, obv).

Finally had the last payment for last weekend's sales.
