Anyone interested in a £300 by Easter ebay selling thread?

carrotsandcelery · 05/01/2012 23:05

Inspired by the threads before Christmas, I was hoping we could get another thread going to motivate us as we sell and ask each other questions as we go along.

I am hoping to start selling again once the dc go back to school next week.

Anyone else want to join me?

That is 3 out of my 4 parcels for this week posted. I am at a total of £250 which I am quite pleased with as I have taken my eye off the ball for the last few weeks and have only been relisting things rather than listing new items. It does prove that it is worth relisting on free listing weekends as stuff does go eventually.

Well done! I sold 3 sets of pillow cases (long story!) over the weekend so posted those this morning. Another bottle of perfume has a bid! I think I only have 2 bottles without bids at the moment but both have watchers so hopefully they'll get a bid or two before they end tomorrow.

All my non-eBay deadlines have been met so now I have to concentrate on ebaying the clothes in my wardrobe. I squished so much in there last night that I thought it was all going to collapse on my head while I slept BlushGrin. I've got lots of Monsoon boys clothes which I might mix in with some other stuff. There's also lots of gap T-shirts...I just don't know where it all comes from.

carrotsandcelery · 05/03/2012 16:47

We were at a wedding at the weekend and I noticed that ds's Monsoon linen trousers and waistcoat are really too small for him, as is one of his two smart shirts so I think I will wash and iron them and then list them as a bundle of 3 items as we are heading into wedding season and people might be looking for that sort of thing soon.

My wardrobe is also jam packed so I should make that my next port of call as well Mogs.

The £1000 item was an ABC triple buggy with accessories. I bought it for £700 direct from NZ 3 years ago Blush

mogs0 · 05/03/2012 19:54

Ah, snap!! I've just sold one aswell! The doubles with reclining seat seem to be selling for crazy money at the moment. Also, I'm sure ABC have put their prices up recently. I looked into ordering an extra seat and adaptor and the seats were £50 more...unless I'd misread the prices a few months earlier.

Lougle · 05/03/2012 20:07

I can't stop fidgeting...I need to put more stuff on ebay :D

We are fairly skint and need money for carpeting, possibly a new cooker, definitely fencing (DD1 has SN and no sense of danger - can't play in an unfenced garden).

We have also had 10 days notice that we get the keys to the new house (LA) a week today . There is much packing to be done. 3 little girlies a dog and a puppy don't speed it up!

EmmaCB1 · 05/03/2012 20:34

Thanks for your help everyone. I am going to take your advice and think more about each item and what I think is a fair price. I listed something last night for .99p and changed it to 2.50 today which will annoy the 3 watchers I'm sure!

Will put together some small bundles next. I may try local gumtree as well as then people can collect rather than pay postage.

£1000 for a used buggy! Perhaps someone should go into business importing them if there is such a demand?!

Lougle · 05/03/2012 20:39

Well to be fair, Emma, it had only been used about 4 times, so it still had the pips on tyres, excellent condition, etc. It also had all the accessories, so rain covers, cosy toes, newborn mattress inserts, wind breaker, sunshades, etc. Even still, very pleased that I took the gamble and put a £1000 BIN as the reserve was £850.

Mind you, paypal fees and ebay fees eat into it Shock

jardy · 05/03/2012 21:38

Well done Lougle! That is amazing.I am upto £216.Delighted but Emma I do sell an awful lot of stuff for 99p.If you get great feedback you are building up your reputation and it all adds up.One sour note,I sold some Hifi (nearly brand new would you believe) for ......£10!!! The buyer kept asking for a pick up time but has still not paid up.Then she said she would send her son round but what time? I asked her THREE times to please either pay via paypal or would she pay cash on collection? At last she has let me know it will be cash on collection.I feel quite anxious about it all and have specified a time when DH will be inHmm

fergoose · 05/03/2012 21:42

Jardy - careful, don't take paypal for collection items, cash only to be sure you don't get a chargeback against you.

ragged · 06/03/2012 13:32

I am dead Envy of some of you. My last lot of auctions ended up with a net profit of about £3.50, and required driving around to different post-offices (searching for one open) & having to lug a huge cardboard box thru the tipping rain to get it posted.

So I am a wee bit jaded...
On a positive note, it looks like my nappies have sold on MN which will net about £33, assuming buyer stays happy, etc. (Xing fingers)

PinkPanther27 · 06/03/2012 15:17

Sounds like everyones doing really well apart from the postage issue and non paying bidders. Reb - once someone has bid on an item then they're accepting the terms and conditions so they should pay it! Most of my stuff is ending in the next couple fo days and I've run out of motivation to list anything else. Some of ym more expensive items went really cheap which I was a bit gutted about but then smaller items which I thought might not sell have gone for more than I paid for them!
I'm now up to nearly £200 so this will probably go on a new carpet for the lounge - (current one covered in stains from potty training, spilt drinks etc - carpet's been cleaned several times but they wont come out) but at least we wont have to fund it from our wages so it wont be such a blow :)
ABC Buggies - I've seen these and they look great, are they any good? I showed dh and he seemed impressed but when I showed him again a few weeks later he said he didnt like the way the toddler seat was balanced ( so clearly wasnt paying attention the first time!)

jardy · 06/03/2012 16:43

fergoose-I googled Paypal for collection and trust the expert you are quite correct about cash only.I have sold one or two items collection only and via paypal, thinking that this was the right course of action but I realise now that it is cash only.ragged 33 pounds is great,I have sold so many bits and pieces for 99p and do know what you mean about the effort involved. However I have been very lucky quite a few times eg an old fountain pen which I have had for years went for twelve pounds Shock,I would have been pleased to have got 99p and also a little Collectors item which I paid 50p for went for 6 pounds,so its swings and roundabouts! PinkPanther27 thats great about your carpet from the profit from Ebay.I have raised about the same amount and bought a beautiful tiny rustic shed with it,which I would never have bought without this thread which spurred me on.Smile

mogs0 · 06/03/2012 18:37

Pink - I have a single ABC with a reclining top seat and a static toddler seat that fits on the front - inline triple - and it's fabulous! I have been searching for the perfect childminding buggy forever and I have now found it! Even with three children in it, it's still a dream to push. Mine isn't the most beautiful example of the ABC, it's a bit of a mis-match of patterns and colours but now i have got the basics, I can start working on getting the fabrics to co-ordinate Grin.

My perfumes are ending tonight and have had a few more bids this afternoon...they're up to around £40 combined at the moment with lots of watchers on all of them. I'm still surprised at how popular used perfume is!

mogs0 · 06/03/2012 21:52

9 perfumes sold for a combined total of £62 Shock. I'm so pleased and wondering whether I have any more lurking in the back of a cupboard somewhere Grin.

My next goal is to sort out my wardrobe by photographing and listing a few items of clothing at a time. There's just too much to try and do it in one go and I end up with clothes strewn all over my room. Then it all gets squished back into the wardrobe when someone comes to stay Blush.

Once I've done that, I am going to attack the junk area...it's a room you walk through to get to ds' bedroom. It has loads of storage but all the cupboards are inaccessible because there's so much junk blocking the cupboard doors. I can't even imagine what is in the back of some of them Blush.

CointreauVersial · 06/03/2012 23:52

A question for you used perfume sellers - do you need to have the boxes they came in to sell them on eBay? I always chuck the boxes, but I do have a couple of bottles which I never particularly liked so hardly used; it would be lovely to get a bit of money for them.

SNOWBall4girlz · 07/03/2012 02:03

nice one Mogs well done with the perfume i remember I sold an empty bottle of jean paul gaultier a couple of years back ...people collect them :)

...cointreau you dont need the boxes just state in the listing that you no longer have the box then its up to the bidder :0

well the bra buyer waited until I sold another bra and gave me my neg so dont know if new bra buyer will think they have bought an returned bra even though I never got the bra back might message them the new buyer ..I have replied to the feedback saying look at her feedback but meant to say look at the feedback she leaves :(

here

sold quite a bit today I have victorian classic costume style dresses on that I should have put on last week for book day they might have fetched a bit more than the starting bid fingers crossed :)

carrotsandcelery · 07/03/2012 09:27

Cointreau I didn't have boxes and some of mine didn't even have lids. Some were 2/3 full, some 1/2 etc.

As long as you are totally honest in your description and find a way to package them safely then no one can make a fuss.

mogs glad they went well. I need to photo and write up over the next few days to get some more stuff on.

PurpleFrog · 07/03/2012 09:42

My items that were listed at the last free-listing weekend are coming to an end. I had 9 things finishing yesterday - only sold 1 - but that's OK because most were re-lists, and probably at slightly too high starting prices. I have 5 items finishing tonight, and 4 already have good bids, so things are looking up! I also have 6 watchers on my other item so have my fingers crossed they are not all just my selling competition for that item!

It surprises me how differently people bid in different categories. I have got so used to people sniping these days, that I am really surprised if I see a flurry of bids before the closing minutes of an auction.

PurpleFrog · 07/03/2012 13:12

I have just noticed that one of my items now has 4 bids on it - all from the same person. I guess he/she really wants it! Grin

carrotsandcelery · 07/03/2012 16:17

How does that work? Have they kept on increasing their max bid? I hope someone bids against them so that it goes up. Grin

OP posts:
PurpleFrog · 07/03/2012 16:36

Yep! They kept increasing their maximum bid. Someone else has now bid against them - 3 times - but the original bidder is still winning - and has put in yet another bid for good measure! Grin

This is the most exciting my selling has got for a loooooong time!

Lougle · 07/03/2012 16:39

I'm up to £1491.30 now (excluding postage fees).

I have another 20 listings. A mixture now of shoes (3 children's, 1 pair of Rainbow Club wedding shoes), baby toys, a tiara, a couple of part full perfumes (thanks for the tip!) a cross stitch floor stand, a box of cross stitch equipment, a Hi-Fi stand (not sure that one will go - £35 postage Shock) and some almost new/new watercolour brushes & paints.

Plus the remaining 14 nappies.

I'm still photographing and listing like mad!

I'm quite pleased though, the council has said that the house we get the keys on is in such a state decoratively, that they are giving us £380 worth of vouchers towards decorating costs. That'll soften the blow a little.

SNOWBall4girlz · 07/03/2012 16:57

hi there i have about 11 watchers on a dress that is still at £2.00 the last time that happened the item went for about £2.59 hoping for a last minute rush but i am prepared to be disappointed:)

I am up to £242 in the last 60 days
The victorian style costume dresses have a little bit of interest but a pack of 12 - 18 m sleepsuits has had the most questions mostly about will I post abroad when the listing says uk only [[http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/izzybelle159/m.html?item=140712055041&sspagename=STRK%3AMESELX%3AIT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649&_trksid=p4340.l2562 my latest offerings]

I have the bug again and I am already planning what to bundle together i need to raise another £250 :)

Lougle · 07/03/2012 16:58

BTW does anyone know where is the best place to sell a wedding dress? Used once, of course Grin
