Anyone interested in a £300 by Easter ebay selling thread?

carrotsandcelery · 05/01/2012 23:05

Inspired by the threads before Christmas, I was hoping we could get another thread going to motivate us as we sell and ask each other questions as we go along.

I am hoping to start selling again once the dc go back to school next week.

Anyone else want to join me?

On the packing front, it would be a waste of packing materials if you had an item which didn't sell or you had a combined postage and it would be a pain if you got lots of questions (I seem to get most about shoes). I can see the logic otherwise. If it was a dvd or similar which wasn't likely to prompt many questions then it would work - as long as the parcel was clearly labelled as otherwise a huge mess could result.

tortoise - I have no idea! Isn't there a section in feedback for postage? Could you make a comment and add it to the feedback? It would probably be better just to message them and hope for a refund though.

Tortoise - I would at least tell the phone seller of their stupidity at not sending it adequately insured - i guess they didn't realise.

jardy · 01/02/2012 21:01

Yes I take your point re packing but I found it worked for me,but you have to weigh up the possibility of questions.
Tortoise, that is unfair,I would let the seller know so it deters him from doing it again,it`s in his interests,as the next time he might not be as lucky to get as honest a buyer (and as fair)as you are

mogs0 · 01/02/2012 21:05

Yay, £68 tonight! I still have one item with about 30mins left but it has no bids and no watchers (is a sun shade for a buggy) so I doubt it's going to sell but will re-list in a few weeks.

I haven't listed anything else yet but really must get a move on now as I picked up (and paid a huge fair amount of money for) the buggy I won on the weekend. I love it but I have to try and sell on the bits that I don't need, to re-coup a bit of money rather than put them in a cupboard and forget about them Blush.

CointreauVersial · 01/02/2012 23:20

Tortoise, I would ask the seller if they would consider a small refund to make up the difference between what they charged for postage and what it actually cost, especially as they didn't use the service they promised. Give them the benefit of the doubt; I have certainly made mistakes on postage.

If they refuse, then I would be inclined to use negative, or at least neutral feedback, and comment on why.

I have a question for the eBay gurus - if you post and item and "mark as despatched" does the buyer get notification that the item is on its way?

PurpleFrog · 02/02/2012 09:14

If you "mark as despatched" the buyer is now SUPPOSED to get an e-mail to say it is on the way, but I have had a couple of cases lately where this hasn't happened and I have sent one "manually". In the selling manager you can see what has been sent under the column headed by an envelope. Click on the number in that column and you can see what has been sent. The e-mails confirming despatch are usually listed as "Order Update".

mygirllollipop · 02/02/2012 11:00

I think it might depends on each buyers' settings, as to whether they get a 'dispatched' email.

PurpleFrog · 02/02/2012 12:19

I have had a look at my settings and I can't change the one for "Order Update". It is set at "Real-time" and is greyed out.

ragged · 02/02/2012 12:23

Tortoise I would also ask for a small rebate on postage (reasons Cointreau said). If they were arsey in reply I'd probably not leave neg, might leave neutral (depend how arsey!) but if they won't refund £1.5-£2 definitely mark down on DSR wrt postage fees.

A few more of my things have gone (oops, I forgot the auctions were still running, lol).
2 buyers slow to pay up, though, humph. Assuming they will pay, my net total is up around £35 now. So.... S L O W L Y getting there :).

Now... must get some listings ready for next free listing weekend (kicks self up bottom).

CointreauVersial · 02/02/2012 13:00

18 items finishing this weekend - not one poxy bid.

carrotsandcelery · 02/02/2012 13:02

I am struggling for watchers, let alone bids, this week. The aftershaves are the only things getting any attention. Gah!

OP posts:
jardy · 02/02/2012 20:16

4 POUNDS MADE ALREADY AND ABOUT 8 WATCHERS EACH.Thats 4 pounds for a total of 20 items.Finishes sunday.Sorry need to clarify,3 have bids and a couple have gone up to 6p and 11p lol (started at 1p)

jardy · 02/02/2012 20:16

Tortoise · 02/02/2012 21:25

Thanks for advice.

Now have 37 watchers on the jack wills hoody! Grin Need them all to bid!

carrotsandcelery · 02/02/2012 21:32

Wow tortoise - is that the new record? I am not sure I have heard of more watchers than that.

OP posts:
Tortoise · 02/02/2012 21:34

I have no idea carrots. Im sure things get loads more watchers than that! But it does feel good! Grin

Tortoise · 03/02/2012 17:16

40 watchers now! Was on £10.99 earlier until bid was retracted/cancelled!

jardy · 03/02/2012 19:25

Well done to you Tortoise! My stuff is attracting interest, with 2 days to go.
If I make ten pounds I will be pleased,as all this stuff would have gone to the Charity Shop.By the way,I bought my ds (age 23 and severely disabled) a fantastic warm jumper from Ebay, designer.Cost me five pounds.Thats why I love ebay,he suits it and it is so warm.Another postive comment to make,I was impressed by Ebays help when I had a non-payer.This person has so many unflattering comments in negative feedback,non-payer,time-waster,won two items, did not pay etc etc.Unfortunatly I cant leave negative feedback.Interesting that the other sellers also said that the buyer did not respond to messages. Is anyone niggled when you don`t get positive feedback when you have made a lot of effort etc.I sold some boots worth 30 pounds for 7.50 AS NEW CONDITION,I boxed and wrapped them beautifully, posted first thing next morning-NO FEEDBACK LEFT Confused

SNOWBall4girlz · 03/02/2012 21:45

hi ladies my total is £119 sold but not much moving at the moment :(
sold a leap frog baby touchpad thingy and after I had underestmated postage and paid the fees I had about three pound but it all helps.

Also some one is sending back a bra because it is "small in the back" and I should have known " How ?? it i not my size have sold at least two others the same size with glowing feedback and I am suitably a tad annoyed !! D I have to refund both sets of postage when it is just buyers remorse? grrr It was a brand new tagged bra btw .

Tortoise · 04/02/2012 08:36

I'm Shock to see my fat face jeans are up to £18!

Snowball I don't think you should pay return postage. But I also don't think you should refund because of fit! That's the risk you take buying on ebay.

carrotsandcelery · 04/02/2012 14:34

We have finally got a bid on my dd's brand new playmobil set (duplicate she got for Christmas that is on its third listing). That is our only bid so far but there are a few watchers on our after shaves so fingers crossed.

I also got fantastic feedback from the buyer of the Cacharel so it arrived safe and sound. Thank you to the poster who gave me packing advice as it clearly worked.

Well done on the fat face jeans Tortoise. Fx it will keep creeping up too.

OP posts:
jardy · 04/02/2012 21:42

Yay my unpaid for coat went for six pounds fifty pence.Pleased about that.Upto nearly 16 pounds on other items. Its only stuff that would have been taken to the charity shop so I am pleased, with another 24 hours to go

Tortoise · 05/02/2012 14:05

I now have 51 watchers on jack wills hoody! Shock I just hope some of them bid!

ragged · 05/02/2012 14:26

Not sure why, I feel need to run this by you guys.
I sold an item for £31 + £4 postage. So not cheap, but not very expensive, either.
Buyer paid quickly (good) & I posted next business day (last Monday), 2nd class as stated.
Tues buyer messages to ask for tracking number; I said I didn't bother as item far below the automatic RM cover (£46). This is a probabilty risk judgement on my part, Recorded delivery not worth it on average. Even Ebay says only track if item value above £150.
Buyer said fine, thanks for update, in same day reply.
Yesterday (Saturday) Buyer said item not yet received; I replied to say sorry about delay, hopefully RM will get act together; Ebay suggests 4-6 working days for delivery, so let me know if not arrived by Tues evening.
Buyer said fine, thanks for update, in same day reply.
This morning at 2:33 am it appears Buyer tried to open a dispute, "item not arrived".

I can't decide whether buyer is unduly anxious OR Buyer is quite anxious to claim item never arrived, and to have lots of communication to back up their claim.

I know I can't do anything but claim back off of RM if item not arrived (supposedly). Do you think my instincts are right or is Buyer's anxiety rubbing off, just making me paranoid about scammer buyers?

Maybe I will send recorded in future for all items above say... I dunno? £12? £15-£20 value?

ragged · 05/02/2012 14:42

Oh, and now Ebay is saying I should contact Buyer to resolve things, but we only exchanged messages yesterday where buyer sounded satisfied with my explanation of why slow delivery, so what do I say now that doesn't sound intensely patronising: "Excuse me but I thought you were okay to wait until Tuesday as I suggested & Ebay advised for delivery window, so why have you changed your mind?" sort of statement is all I can think of. And I think that sounds too arsey (no?)
