carrotsandcelery · 05/01/2012 23:05

Inspired by the threads before Christmas, I was hoping we could get another thread going to motivate us as we sell and ask each other questions as we go along.

I am hoping to start selling again once the dc go back to school next week.

Anyone else want to join me?

unfortunately without a tracking number your buyer will get a refund. The buyer could be scamming you but without tracking info you will never know.

recorded is for your benefit not the buyer

and eBay advice about £150 - nonsense am afraid. With certificate of postage you can claim up to £46 but anything more than that you need adequate insurance.

Tortoise · 05/02/2012 15:09

Royal mail says allow 2 wks for delivery. I always advise the buyer of this and say if not arrived by then I will issue full refund.

Tamoo · 05/02/2012 15:24

Dramarama with my selling activites (as per my other thread). One buyer didn't receive an item of jewellery I'd sent Recorded Delivery. I've just tracked it, and it's been mistakenly delivered to a woman who bought a top from me.

So...she bought a top for £6 and received the top and a solid gold pendant I'd sold to someone else for fifty quid Angry

Once I found out what happened I emailed her and contacted ebay by phone. She admitted she has the pendant and says she emailed me last Thursday about it. She didn't, I never received an email and ebay have no record of such an email ever being sent (double Angry).

Call me cynical but I reckon she was just hoping to keep it. I've asked her to send it back to me Special Delivery as soon as she can, and I'll refund her postage costs. Could get complicated if she doesn't return it, as ebay say because she has admitted possession I could open a non-payment case against her!

CointreauVersial · 05/02/2012 15:33

Tamoo - nightmare! That's my biggest worry, sending something to the wrong person. I don't sell much of value, but I imagine the person who bought a Planet cardi would be pretty unhappy to receive DD2's cast-off jeans!

Ragged, I tend to send Recorded if I expect the value to be much over £10-15. You have to choose the amount you'd be content to wave goodbye to if the item goes astray. Just make sure you declare it in the listing and set the postage charge accordingly, then you are not out of pocket.

Anyway, people of Britain or Europe, I'm not choosy it is cold and miserable outside, so stay indoors and bid on my stuff. Three items finishing today have bids, but I feel you could do more to swell my bank balance......Grin

jardy · 05/02/2012 16:03

Ragged,I would sit tight on this after having messaged the buyer. It could arrive by wednesday.I have waited upto two weeks for an item, and it isnt as though you havent been a good communicator.Tamoo, that is a nightmare. You have to try and hang onto the fact that the vast majority of ebayers are genuine and nice people. At the moment I think I will make between 25-30 pounds on bits and pieces, which would have ended up in a charity shop.Handy for me Smile

jardy · 05/02/2012 20:35

CARROT! Thanks for your inspiration.Made 65 pounds selling 17 items.
Needed that money! Thanks

carrotsandcelery · 05/02/2012 21:16

Don't thank me jardy you did all the hard work. WELL DONE and I am glad it has helped you.

Yeah, I thought £150 sounded crazy, but it's what my last Ebay msg said .
Ho hum, I will ignore the attempt to start dispute msg & contact them on Wednesdayif they haven't been in touch yet. snow is going to slow deliveries down, too!
Think I will send recorded if value over £20 in future. I know RM will refund so my out of pocket will be very small, it just annoys me to think anybody is scamming.

TheDogTheDogHesAtItAgain · 05/02/2012 21:22

Been lurking and have been inspired by the successes so far! Managed to find a few tecchy-type things that dh can sell (he's the IT bod of the family).

All I have is bits and pieces of things my dds have finished with - but you know what sells, if you have any? Scooby Doo action figures. I listed a set of the 5 main characters, poseable action figures, at 99p, expecting to get a couple of quid, and got over £10 for them Shock Grin. They'd barely been touched by my dds and were about to go to the charity shop.

Well done so far, and keep it up! Great thread Thanks.

TheDogTheDogHesAtItAgain · 05/02/2012 21:28

Also sold a coat of dd2's for 99p and a Lakeland burger maker for £1.45, but every little helps Smile.

This week I've put on some nearly-full Jo Malone colognes in small sizes, as they seem to sell. Very Sad to be doing that, but we need the money just now, and I've promised myself that I'll replace them when the boat comes in. Kept my favourite one because otherwise I'd have been too sad, and hopefully will get some bids on the others, as I listed them for 99p to attract attention. Dh has promised that if they look like they're selling for a ridiculously small amount, he'll buy them from me and we'll keep them. They've got a few watchers already, so fingers crossed! Also selling some old Hama boards that the girls don't use any more (gaining cupboard space and maybe a bit of cash!)

CointreauVersial · 05/02/2012 21:49

Five items sold this evening, making another £37, but quite a few unsold. I will relist before I go on holiday and hopefully come home to a load of "sold" items (wishful thinking?)

carrotsandcelery · 05/02/2012 22:11

My listings finish tomorrow night but I have gathered a lot more watchers tonight. At the moment I am on £15 and need it to go a bit higher. Fingers crossed.

Thanks Carrot and well done Cointreau. The dog-your dh sounds lovely.
Now a question for the experts, one I have solved and maybe a bit of reassurance for the next. One buyer requested NEXT DAY DELIVERY even though I said it would arrive within 3-5 days.I messaged him he would have to send me an extra four pounds for NEXT DAY DELIVERY.It was a bit fiddly re-doing the invoice but without too many hitches it was sorted and he put the extra four pounds in my ebay account immediatly,so sorted but a bit time consuming and irritating. Now another buyer wants the stuff sending to Romania.Hasnt paid yet. I have messaged her that this will cost her another four pounds and will take longer to arrive (about 10 days at least). If she isnt interested in paying the extra money I will re-list.Any comments?Thank you

carrotsandcelery · 05/02/2012 22:37

Usually an overseas bidder would contact you prior to bidding to arrange the fee and then you would put their name on your exemption list to allow them to bid. You can adjust your settings so that only uk bidders can bid until you permit specific bidders. For now I think all you can do is see if they are willing to pay the extra postage. I have sent lots to Romania and not had any problems.

Can I join in! I got 3 cardboard boxes of "stuff" plus some disney cars 2 to sell. Need to get it all shifted by before easter when I go back to work at my seasonal job and get really busy. Will start next weekend Wink

jardy · 05/02/2012 22:51

Not another four pounds, two pounds,so not too bad for her if she wants the shoes

jardy · 05/02/2012 22:53

Thank you carrotandcelery.Welcome to fin, carrot inspired me and I am so chuffed with myself Smile

Tortoise · 05/02/2012 23:12

Made £60.92 tonight. Pleased with that. More ending tomorrow. Not much though. Hopefully get couple of bits listed too.

jardy · 06/02/2012 17:00

My buyer from Romania will not pay the extra two pounds postage and has requested to re-list.I will take fergooses advice and adjust my settings to avoid this happening again.(another thread)Also I have opened an unpaid item account with ebay. What a lot of flaffing about just for two pounds!I dont think she really wanted them otherwise she wouldn`t have quibbled over two pounds.

jardy · 06/02/2012 17:00

Well done Tortoise,a similar amount to me!

carrotsandcelery · 06/02/2012 21:03

I have made just over £43 tonight. I am really pleased as my total is about £220 since we started this thread.

I need to get listing more items ready for the next free listing weekend. I have relisted all my unsold 99p items again but I am loathed to relist the bigger items a third time.

Can anyone remind me about the fees for relisting please? Most of the items were first listed on the last free listing weekend, then relisted last week so this would be their third listing, the second that I have paid for. Confused
