We are up to 1000 posts on the other thread, so thought I'd start a new one. And also because as of today my feedback rating is 1000 & I now have a red star

Please keep posting, I love this thread; it's so friendly and interesting!

Just got paid for my final item in the last push, and packed it.
Phone bloke finally got civil and has returned the thing so need to check whether it really is broken or not...

I put the mobile phone on a 3-day listing so that ends in half an hour! Lots of interest in that and the fish tank but after 27 watchers resulted in only one bid last time, I'm trying not to get excited. Hmm

Tortoise · 01/11/2011 20:10

DPs bits ended unsold despite having watchers. Going to relist them for him in a mo.

dizzyday07 · 01/11/2011 20:33

Missed free listing weekend as DH and I have been away celebrating our 10th Wedding Anniversary!

Will get some jigsaws and bits listed in the week - especially as I have quite a few of Dumbledoresgirls's bits in mywatch list Grin

Dumbledoresgirl · 02/11/2011 09:26

Aww thanks Dizzyday. If you bid, you will get bargains as I haven't had much interest so far Sad I've even had one bidder ask me to cancel her bid as she was bidding on the "wrong thing". I don't know if that was genuine, but what can you do? I canceled her bid and lost watchers on the same item shortly afterwards!

I really don't know how you guys make money doing this. I lose heart so quickly. I spent last night trying to analyse how to sell stuff, eg I have a box full of old plastic meccano and I think I worked out it would be better to try selling it in separate lots, rather than altogether, but that means the faff of loads of listings - groan!

Still can't find the blasted playmobil plane wheels either!

Carrotsandcelery · 02/11/2011 11:03

Dumble would the meccano lots be similar? There is a "sell similar item" button when you are listing that should speed up the process.

Those of you with bits of Playmobil, I have noticed that lots of people sell bits and bobs of sets for those trying to complete and repair sets. So even if you just have a few bits of a building etc they seem to sell.

Millie1 · 02/11/2011 11:19

Hi guys, haven't had time to read the thread for a week or two though I had a really bad week of sales last week. Anyway, have a quick question. Have listed a Scooby Doo cake tin, starting at £4.50. Someone has emailed asking me whether I would put a BIN price on it. I've no problem with this but am unsure how much. They seem to be mostly listed with US postage charges of around £20 and have been selling for £13-18. However a UK listed tin sold recently for £16 plus reasonable UK postage charges. I guess I was hoping that at auction it would go for around £15. It has 7 watchers. Any advice please?

Thanks

Dumbledoresgirl · 02/11/2011 12:47

Millie, hmm, well speaking as someone who always turns down requests for BIN simply because I don't know how much to ask, I would say go for £15. If that is the amount you would be happy getting, that seems a sensible price to ask. Also, it is in the mid-range of what you say the tins are going for. Good luck.

Carrots, yes, I could use sell similar. It still takes time taking photos and uploading them to ebay. And then I write too much in my listings! I think I need to copy others who just say "good condition" and nothing more!

Carrotsandcelery · 02/11/2011 12:51

Sorry Dumble I didn't mean to be patronising. Blush

I write too much as well. I am always wary if there is not much said about the item eg Playmobil - you get what you see in the photo - makes me suspicious that there are major bits missing that aren't totally obvious in the photo.

Tortoise · 02/11/2011 13:09

I'm surprised to see 18 watchers on the snow suit. One bid on it so far. Even have a bid and 5 watchers on ps1 games. DSs said they wouldn't sell! Proved them wrong lol.

Dumbledoresgirl · 02/11/2011 13:27

Carrots! God! No! I didn't think (and didn't mean to imply) you were being patronising. Smile

Carrotsandcelery · 02/11/2011 13:31

Blush Sorry Dumble. Smile

Tortoise · 02/11/2011 17:31

Arrgghh where the buggering bollocks did I put the DS games? Not in any bags or in the ebay cupboard!

HalleLouja · 02/11/2011 17:40

Am having probs with a buyer who didn't pay postage. I refunded them and haven't heard from them. Ebay says it has been paid in full but this is not the case when I look at paypal.

So have had to email paypal so they can confirm with ebay. Pain in the arse.

Angry

It was a lovely Joules jumper and I want to relist now, well as soon as.

fergoose · 02/11/2011 17:56

so you can't open a non payer dispute against the buyer then? f you have refunded correctly the item will not show as paid in eBay, it will show as refunded?

You can open a mutual cancellation case instead, then once closed relist.

HalleLouja · 02/11/2011 18:13

I refunded through paypal and ebay is saying it is unpaid. However, it won't let me list it as an unpaid. I had an online chat with ebay and once they have confirmation from paypal that the item is not been paid for they can relist it / do a dispute.

The buyer is ignoring all my communications and it has been nearly a week since they paid and over 10 days since the item ended.

Might call paypal from DHs work phone later as have free calls. Its just a headache. Oh well.

My Monsoon dress is going for over £10 with no long to go, so that is better than expected. Much better. I was hoping for a couple of quid.

toobreathless · 02/11/2011 21:05

Just checking in.

I has a good weekend selling & my palpal balance now stands at over £100. A joules jumper with a small ink stain made £15! The daily walks to the post office are keeping me fit. Is anyone able to tell me how to link to my listings?

Having a quiet week with just three items listed. I'm gearing up to list a whole load of XBox & PS games this weekend to try & catch the Christmas traffic. Also thinking of doing a car boot as I have a lot of stuff that's not really worth ebaying: low value heavy stuff & supermarket baby clothes etc

HalleLouja: the buyer sounds like a PITA, hope you get it sorted soon.

Millie1 · 02/11/2011 21:36

Thanks Dumble. Have told her what I would like for it and if she wants it at that price, then i'll put the BIN on. It's got 10 watchers now so I hope will get some bids closer to the time.

Everyone has been doing so well. I find it impossible to make/find the time. Listed a few things a week or two back and made peanuts - good Clarks shoes going for 99p etc. Have 11 items on again this week - including two buggies, trying again for local collection. If they don't go this time, I'll have to get myself organised to try again with courier delivery.

notcitrus · 02/11/2011 22:15

Well again lots of watchers turned into only 1 bid, but it was a fair price for the phone and they paid instantly, so that's another £30. Though will have to refund much of that to phone numpty whether it works or not...

Time to be patient for another 4-6 days on everything else.
[looks round for more stuff that might sell]

Carrotsandcelery · 03/11/2011 10:09

I have a question as a buyer now. I bought some Playmobil and it is not in great condition. There are lots of bits missing and one of the people is significantly chewed. It is also dirty.

The description didn't say bits were missing or that it was complete either.

It didn't say that it had been chewed or that it was dirty. It didn't say it was clean and in excellent condition either.

Should I complain to the seller or is it just a lesson learned to be much much more careful what I buy?

I am really disappointed but don't know if it is my own fault or theirs. Sad

JarethTheGoblinKing · 03/11/2011 10:16

I would expect photographs or a description of significant damage on a listing, how did they describe it?

fergoose · 03/11/2011 10:16

I wouldn't be happy with that - surely omitting to say something is in poor condition is the same as lying. And pieces missing should have been mentioned - they can hardly argue that it didn't say it was complete, so you must assume pieces were missing?

I would email the seller if I were you and take it from there - if you had known the condition would you have paid the price you did?

Carrotsandcelery · 03/11/2011 10:44

Thanks - I wouldn't have paid as much if I had known the condition. It came with instructions so they know that pieces are missing (and so do I now).

The description was, "THIS PLAYMOBIL RED INDIANS LOT INCLUDES A WIGWAM, 8 X RED INDIANS, 1 HORSE, 1 PONY, A TOETOM POLE." and there was a photo showing all the pieces.

The hair of one person is significantly chewed and that wasn't mentioned which I think is what has annoyed me most. The photo did show all the pieces but it wasn't obvious that bits were missing.

TeWihara · 03/11/2011 10:54

Hmm, bit dodgy that. I suppose technically they have told you what was in it, though. - Regardless you could ask for a refund on the terms that the condition wasn't accurately described?

tortoise - we've bought old console games on eBay before - there's a surprisingly good market for them! I think you get lots of people (like us) who really want to play a particular old version of a game that can't be bought for modern consoles.

fergoose · 03/11/2011 11:00

I agree - not as described. If there are faults they should have been mentioned.

Carrotsandcelery · 03/11/2011 14:01

I have emailed the seller - fingers crossed they will be reasonable.
