Thread 2 - Raise £350 by Christmas

Seabright · 19/10/2011 20:32

We are up to 1000 posts on the other thread, so thought I'd start a new one. And also because as of today my feedback rating is 1000 & I now have a red star

Please keep posting, I love this thread; it's so friendly and interesting!

OP posts:
TeWihara · 23/11/2011 10:25

If it's less than 550g, surface mail would be £4.50, but otherwise I think you will have to look at the royalmail website. I think they have their own calculator.

TeWihara · 23/11/2011 10:26

If you press 'view order details' under more actions you can see the postal address and just write it out yourself btw. Less convenient, but in case you hadn't seen it!

Carrotsandcelery · 23/11/2011 10:50

Thanks everyone. I think the best I can offer her is to charge a high price and promise to refund the excess. Hmm

Snapespeare · 23/11/2011 11:30

working out why I have no watchers on lovely boys Gap coat, when all my other boys coats have 5+ watchers and a couple of bids.

the title was 'lovely winter 'cat' Hmm happily ammended. NNow I can sit and wait for deluge of interest! Grin

Carrotsandcelery · 23/11/2011 11:32

I listed a lovely Gap jacket on the charity list last week and didn't even get a watcher

lljkk · 23/11/2011 11:35

Paypal postage other than using up your paypal balance, why would I want to do this? I can't ever figure out what the advantages might be, other than Ebay probably skims yet more money off the sale (I imagine). It's a bit of a faff using our printer, and I still have to take item to PO to get proof of posting. At PO they check that the address actually exists, too.

So... why would I want to print postage label using Ebay/Paypal?

(I probably asked this question before and have forgotten the answer, don't mind me if I'm being an idiot)

Tortoise · 23/11/2011 13:01

For me, it's often better than using money out of my bank account (especially if im skint!). Ebay/paypal don't charge for the service. I just hand them all over at PO and they stamp the reciepts that are printed out with the label. Saves loads of time at the PO and avoids people watch checking and tutting behind me Grin.

fergoose · 23/11/2011 13:36

I agree it uses your Paypal balance, you don't need to queue and wait for ages for items to be weighed and paid for, and it automatically updates eBay to say item posted and buyer gets an email.

I hate going and being tutted at too. I do appreciate that some post offices get narked though as they are losing your business.

Carrotsandcelery · 23/11/2011 14:50

I make a point of using the Post Office here as we are in a small village and I want the Post Office to get the business and to stay open. The only problem is that, while money gathers in your paypal account, your purse gets emptier and emptier.

It also means that with the charity account I have to keep a close eye on the costs as these will have to come off the paypal account before I hand the cash over.

lljkk · 23/11/2011 17:02

But you do need to queue, don't you? Or do you really say "Hey I get to go to the front of you 25 people waiting for a counter because I have a Paypal postage thing here in my hand".

Sorry, not getting the No queuing thing!! Confused

You have to have very accurate scales at home, too, does the PO not double check you got the postage right for the weight? Time at the counter really doesn't take that long, ime, so just not an issue for me. I get more narked with people taking forever to pay in 25 bags of 5p coins or collecting their pensions (when there's no obvious reason why they couldn't us a cashcard instead).

But I appreciate some of you have had huge sales of late, maybe large volumes of stuff to shift, and thus huge paypal balances to use up Envy

notcitrus · 23/11/2011 17:33

IME even when I've had 10 items to send, I just keep pulling them onto the scales, saying what stamp I need, and handing them over, and it's so efficient I always take much less long than someone trying to get money out of an account with none in it/complaining their parcel got lost/sending a moneygram somewhere/something totally incomprehensible.

Which accounts for 99% of other people at the main post office - so even though they have 10 desks (usually 3-4 staffed), it invariably takes much longer than the little sub-post-office where there's only one guy on duty but even if there's a couple people in front of me, they tend to know what they're doing.

Every time I think I'm passing the main PO, I'll just send my parcel here, I always regret it. My record is 45 minutes in the queue...

I was going to recommend people look at the cached version of the Airmail prices site in Google, but sadly they've updated it to the dead page already. Could be worth looking in your History if you've used it recently, or one of the other search results for airmail prices.

Carrotsandcelery · 23/11/2011 20:37

I am really upset. I have had a message stating the ballet outfit I sent them was not as described. I had stated in the description that the shoes showed signs of wear and that the wrap had bobbling. She says there were holes in the leotard and the chiffon skirt had pulls and holes in it. Neither of these things are true. I don't have a leg to stand on though so I have asked her to post it back to me second class and said that when I receive it I will refund her costs. I am so annoyed. I don't take to being called a liar when I am not one and I am always painfully honest with my listings. Gah!

On top of that I had a really pleasant message from a buyer saying their parcel arrived with no postage label. Followed by "Come off in post?" a) I know I paid to post it and b) she put that as the comment in my feedback!!! She didn't contact me about it first or anything. She was pleasant as I say but how annoying. I have messaged her asking if she was charged for postage and saying I have proof of postage and that I can take it up with the Post Office if she wants me to. I know this one is not her fault but what a pain. Grrr!

Snapespeare · 23/11/2011 21:06

heart stopping message from my iphone buyer to contact him, but phew! all OK!

listed another 15 items tonight - taking a break... if i sell everything that is being watched (which never happens...) I'm at £400+

carrots try to not be worried by it - you're being honest and trying to rectify any quibbles - it's all part of the experience i'm afraid. :( good (us!) and bad sellers and good and bad buyers - such is life.

Tortoise · 23/11/2011 21:38

Can anyone tell me why an item i sold is showing as unpaid but paypal says payment made? I don't want to post until i'm sure they have paid.

BrianAndHisBalls · 23/11/2011 21:44

had similar, packed doll really well, lots of bubble wrap and then a gigantic stiff bubble filled envelope doubled over twice over top. Had message off buyer saying box had arrived 'damaged' and she was so worried that the doll was damaged too Hmm that she had to take it out the box to check (even though these are like barbie dolls not porcelain dolls and you can see them clearly through the front and sides of the box) so what did I want to do, as now it wasn't BNIB?

I offered her a (fairly substantial) part refund. Didnt feel I could do anything else. If she'd sent it back to me and I'd refunded we'd both have lost money on postage and if I'd sent her a replacement and she'd sent it back to me again the same. Buyers have you over a bit of a barrel these days on ebay Sad

fergoose · 23/11/2011 21:45

Is it an echeque Tortoise - what does it say when you click on the payment in Paypal?

Tortoise · 23/11/2011 22:08

No, not showing the egg timer symbol that the other 2 items paid by echeque show. Paypal shows as normal when item has been paid. Buyer has 1 feedback!

fergoose · 23/11/2011 22:17

Have you logged into paypal.co.uk and actually clicked on the payment there - there may be more info there as to why it hasn't updated.

Otherwise, I wonder if there is a delay in eBay payments updating.

mogs0 · 23/11/2011 22:41

I've made £126 tonight! The only downside is £117 of it is my sister's HmmGrin. I've had my first unsold item tonight aswell - won't be the last as I listed things I was pretty sure would sell well up until now. I think I might re-think what I have left to go on and whether it's worth the space it's currently taking up and the time it'll take me to list it if things only end up selling for 99p.

...but then there's always the memory of selling that shrug last year for £44 after it had been listed at least 3 times over 2 years for £2.99 and no one wanted it...and only cost me £20 to start with...

Crazybit · 24/11/2011 08:00

Arghh, I'm being harrassed by the woman wanting a refund for the diet shakes where one split! I'd already issued a refund in the form of a discount and its as though she isn't reading my messages, just keeps asking for a refund over and over. Can I block her?

fergoose · 24/11/2011 08:22

you can't block her messages but you can add her to your blocked bidder list

Tortoise · 24/11/2011 08:28

I would ignore the messages and maybe forward them to ebay.

Crazybit · 24/11/2011 09:32

Thanks guys. I replied asking whether she had gotton my previous messages, quite politely I thought, and she replied saying no or she she wouldn't have asked again and that she doesn't appreciate my attitude. Angry I have responded nicely, but what a pita! She has rubbish feedback, but I already left her good feedback as I thought all was okay, what's the betting she leaves me negative and ruins my 100%.

PurpleFrog · 24/11/2011 09:46

Crazybit - did you send these messages through eBay? You should always send anything like that as an eBay message so that there is a record of it there.

Crazybit · 24/11/2011 09:55

Purplefrog, yes I did, I can see them on my sent messages. I also sent one on the invoice through Ebay which I can view. Am trying not to stress about it but it is so frustrating.
