We are up to 1000 posts on the other thread, so thought I'd start a new one. And also because as of today my feedback rating is 1000 & I now have a red star

Please keep posting, I love this thread; it's so friendly and interesting!

Dino that's brilliant, fantastic!

Tortoise · 19/11/2011 22:47

Wow, well done dino.

Got a few more bids coming in. Need to make lots of money otherwise won't be buying many more presents! Lol.

DS2 now asking for an ipod touch! Bloody hell they're expensive!

DinosaursHateUnderpants · 20/11/2011 09:11

Thanks for the congrats. We've done better than expected but I'm kind of pleased to have the end in sight and take some time away from listing to buy instead!

Carrots - you should definitely put a bit at the end of all your auctions about what/why your raising money - have a look at one of my auctions right at the bottom in a small font, we do the same and I think it's nice for people to know.

Carrotsandcelery · 20/11/2011 10:49

I will go and have a look Dino.

Our charity listings have their first final sale and there was a bit of bidding on it so it went from 99p to a whopping £1.70. Yay!

2 other things on that page have bids so our first week will at least make over £10 which means we are now in profit, despite buying a big pack of 100 postage bags.

Fingers crossed some more bids come in as this evening approaches.

My own page is ticking away. I am selling higher cost items this week and look to make a bit over £30 so far.

I should really start listing some new stuff to replace what sells.

notcitrus · 20/11/2011 16:51

Hooray - a lovely fish-loving couple have just carted the fishtank out the door! And paid more than we got on Ebay, with no fees. :)
I gave them a couple boxes of filters to go with it.

Looks like Gumtree is the way to go for bulky stuff in London. Even if it takes forever to upload photos - must poke my mate who works for them.

So we're around £310 now. Minus £14 for the book I bought last night... Grin

Tortoise · 20/11/2011 18:20

Few bids finally appearing.
Spongebob cd player got a few bids but there is one ending about half hour before mine ends! Will be interesting to see if the bidders on that who lose out, then bid on mine!
Cot quilt and bumper upto just over £13. Sold the other one on buy it now for £13!

JarethTheGoblinKing · 20/11/2011 20:41

Right. Finally got around to listing the box sets - wish I'd done it last week, would have saved a fair bit in listing fees, whoops!

House and Dexter box sets

I've STILL got that Bench coat to list, but reckon it's getting a bit late in the year now Confused
(maybe I just want to keep it Wink )

Carrotsandcelery · 20/11/2011 20:51

How is everyone getting on so far?

My charity listings have finished but didn't do too well. I am wondering if it is because I am a new seller and have a feedback score of 1. I think I will have to be patient. I had started with all the jackets as I thought they would be the most popular just now but now I am thinking I should have started with lots of 99p items so I could build a feedback score and people didn't feel they were risking too much on me. Hey ho! You live and learn. That said, we have made £11 ish so it is a start. I reckon if I follow Dino's advice and say that it is a charity site people might understand and take a risk.

Not all my own listings have finished but my dd's ballet outfit sold for £6.50. It has been hanging on a hook in the hall for years so that is a boost on two fronts.

mogs0 · 20/11/2011 21:20

Here are a few more of my listings.

I'm trying to work out when I need to list things by to catch the Christmas rush.

This week is going to be really busy with work so not sure when I'm going to sort out the next load of eBay bits and pieces. I should really schedule the PM mansion tonight while I'm on a bit of roll - I have a feeling it might be free-listing next weekend so I want it to be ready.

fergoose · 20/11/2011 21:24

Carrots - if you are going to sell items for charity you can set it up on your listing

there is lots of info here

TeWihara · 20/11/2011 21:25

I read in the paper that tomorrow is the biggest internet shopping day of the year, so any time from now is good afaik...

BrianAndHisBalls · 20/11/2011 21:36

Mogs - what PM mansion have you got? I bought one off Ebay about a month ago, the big mansion (grande? not the Victorian one) with furniture goes for around £140!

I've got lots of dvds and boxsets to sell but last time I did dvds they went for around 99p each if they even sold so not sure I can be bothered.

TeWihara · 20/11/2011 21:50

Ho hum: about £50 tonight, was hoping for £70 so a bit disappointed in one item but ah well.

mogs0 · 20/11/2011 21:59

It's the Victorian one. I've watched a few in the last couple of weeks and they are going for up to £200 Shock. I have a few rooms of furniture but need to replace a couple of pieces of railing which have gone awol.

Dumbledoresgirl · 20/11/2011 22:05

Well, I am up to £142 now, so nearly at my £150 target. Since I was on £97 last weekend, I guess I had quite a good week this week though I seem to have most of my more expensive stuff still on my hands. Hmm As it isn't a free listing weekend, I am not sure whether to relist them or not. What does anyone think? Will there be a free listing weekend next weekend, and, if there is, will it be too late to catch the Christmas shoppers?

Tortoise · 20/11/2011 23:16

I didn't do too bad tonight. Not added it up yet or listed more because DD2 had a bad head then was sick so been giving her cuddles.
DD1 has had bad head and throat all weekend.
Might do some tomorrow night on 5 day listing. Just need to get this stuff listed! Fed up off stuff everywhere and need space in the corner for Christmas tree soon!

PurpleFrog · 21/11/2011 09:36

Ha - mogs0 - I sold the playmobil Victorian mansion 2 years ago on eBay. It was the most expensive item I ever sold, but it was a nightmare. Like you I discovered some bits were broken or missing and I replaced these (from eBay) before setting it up, photographing and listing. I then discovered that the box I was going to pack it in was too small and had to find another..... I listed it too late to get the really high amounts and had a reserve on it, but by that time the market was flooded so it took a few weeks to sell. I think I got £125 on BIN eventually. To be fair we didn't have the living room roomset, and I had swithered whether to buy that first before listing. DP gave me a lift to the PO in the snow and there was a notice on the door to say they were closed because of a power cut. Luckily, there is a also PO in the town I work in so he just took me there and I managed to get it posted. Phew! I even paid a couple of pounds extra to use a 48 hr service to make sure it got there before Christmas. I get the cold shakes just thinking about it all! Grin

mogs0 - is it just railings you need, or do you need other bits? I still have a small bag of extra bits I ended up buying to get the few things I needed.

Tortoise · 21/11/2011 09:58

Made £130 last night Grin. Very pleased with that and spent already on Christmas presents, oops!

Snapespeare · 21/11/2011 10:35

hello all! (waves!) I have been prevaricating about putting stuff on ebay for ages - waiting and waiting for free listing weekends (and missing them when they do arrive! ) So I started yesterday with books, electrical thingies and some creepy dolls - already sold my old iphone on a BIN for £90 - so I'm well on the way to my £350...

I don't trust turbo lister ( having spent hours listing stuff only to have it go tits-up at the last minute..) so am doing it 'long-hand' and will be adding things every night this week. tonight is bras, shoes & childrens coats! then I need to get around to the 3 IKEA bags (and a suitcase!) of childrens clothes.

I'd forgotten what a trial it is to list - but what a buzz you get when something sells! DD has already managed to buy a jumper with the iphone money. Not sure that's quite what should happen to my £350! (watches it all go out again on jumpers...)

my listings here :)

Carrotsandcelery · 21/11/2011 10:40

Tortoise that is fantastic! My winnings are leaving my paypal account as fast as I make them too. I am going to keep this going all of next year though so next year I should find it a bit easier.

I am considering taking a break until the New Year now - just relisting what I have already written up. Maybe I am daft though and clothes will keep selling.

I am wondering if I should see if ebay will let me list some more wii games now though as they might sell well before Christmas.

Tortoise · 21/11/2011 10:53

Snapespeare You need our sneaking scheduling trick! Grin
Im rubbish at explaining but basically do a listing but instead of opting start listing immedietly, select schedule item. Then at the time/day you want to list the item, change it to list immedietly. This means can list days in advance and amend when you want without payiong schedule fee. (does that make sense?)

mogs0 · 21/11/2011 10:56

Purple - that sounds like many of my eBay sales Blush, particularly the bit about the box not being big enough Grin. Yes, I think it's just the railings missing and possibly a couple of the wall fillers but I keep finding them about the place and haven't got the will to dismantle the house to put them in.

Some of the listings last year were amazing. There was such detail in the photos and it seemed to make a huge difference in the selling prices. I also have the extra floor which I'm debating whether to list with the house, on a separate auction or not at all (it's currently in the other pm mansion).

First, I need to either wait for free listing or get myself motivated to try uploading my many photos to the description. I've been told how to do it more than once but never get around to trying it out. If I wait until free listing they usually offer 12 free pics.

Dumbledoresgirl · 21/11/2011 11:02

Hi Ebayers! Grin Can I ask you Playmobil fans a question? When you buy Playmobil sets on ebay, do you mind if the original box goes with the set or not? Do you get more money for selling with the original box?

I now have my Playmobil plane ready to sell. I listed it last free listing weekend with its box, but local pick up only as it would be too big for me to post. I got a couple of watchers but no bids. So, I don't want the wretched thing (!) so I am now wondering if I could pack it all into a normal royal mail box and do away with the original box. I could then attract buyers from anywhere.

Either that, or, if the original box is important, can someone advise me about couriers please? Can I list the plane and say "arrange your own courier"? What work would that involve for me? ie, would a courier take a bashed playmobil box as it was (with a bit of sellotape holding it closed) or would I still be expected to wrap the box? Staying in for courier is no problem as I am a SAHM anyway.

Thanks folks.

fergoose · 21/11/2011 11:18

I would never let a buyer arrange their own courier - potentially you have no tracking number and buyer could claim item not received and claim their money back. Always arrange your own courier if taking paypal.

I have used collect plus successfully, very cheap and quick and you can drop off locally instore.

Snapespeare · 21/11/2011 11:22

oo! collect plus sounds brill! :)

tortoise i think that makes sense (!) Hmm I'll try it tonight with the bras 'n' coats (thank you!)
