Raise £350 for Christmas - the new eBay challenge

Post your listings and questions here. The purpose is to raise money for Christmas and I'll start by showing my (so far) meagre listings here

Yes, definately not up for any of that. There are already bids so can't add a buy it now price.

I think we will have to tell them the reserve so as not to be marked down for bad communication if they win, it's annoying though because the point of a reserve is that it's not public knowledge!

DinosaursHateUnderpants · 22/08/2011 20:58

New stuff from me tonight now listed here

LaWeasel - if you're putting the prices up to offset the postage put that in the description.
I'm always more willing to buy off people the more information that's in there.

You could tell someone the reserve, they might want to make an offer, but it doesn't mean you have to accept it. In fact I'd always be wary. If they're that desperate for something they've probably bid on things before and lost out because they've not bid high enough.... which means you're likely to get more through the auction.

Some people use to anonymity of ebay to be very cheeky... or outright rude!

We sold DH's PA system a while ago. We listed it as pick up only because it was so big. Someone emailed asking, if they paid extra, to cover petrol would I meet them halfway. Halfway between Manchester and Norwich!
I replied apologising but said no as I couldn't fit the item, plus DD's car seat in the car, and that was why we'd said pick-up only, however he could arrange for a courier if he liked.
He replied saying he hadn't asked me to bring my f***g daughter.
I politely pointed out that spending over half my day driving to meet a stranger at some random location to hopefully be given a couple of hundred pounds for an item probably wasn't the safest thing a female could do. (I think he assumed because it was music related that I was male.) Therefore I would also need to bring my husband, who doesn't drive, and we could hardly leave a 2 year old at home alone for 5 or 6 hours!

I so far have 4 watchers. I think I've checked at least half a dozen times today... and I've been in work. Blush

WalterFlipschicks · 23/08/2011 14:29

here
mine listed last night, not going to make £350 from those but am still looking, have a quinny travel system to list but need to get photographing!

WalterFlipschicks · 23/08/2011 14:31

Bilblio Shock thats terrible, did they come and collect in the end?

LaWeasel · 23/08/2011 15:18

Bilbio - thanks, another good idea! Did that this morning and we'll see. That guy sounds like a complete tosser, very glad we're not trying to sell anything too big for a courier...

dizzyday07 · 23/08/2011 16:44

Can I join in? I have a few bits listed that actually belong to my sister.

I have sold a good few of DS's old CDs laterlay and made @£30 which is more than we'd have got from Music Magpie!

ClaimedByMe · 23/08/2011 18:29

i got an email about one of my items today, someone asking how much it would cost to send to croatia! i have no idea, im sure my listings say uk only Confused

roosterroo · 23/08/2011 18:58

hi, can I join?

Tortoise hope you DSRs are reviewed soon I think they are done monthly - I had low for postage time recently and it seemed to stay that way for about a month. So annoying not to use the free listing.

here's my first few items www.ebay.co.uk/sch/lrud3454/m.html?_trksid=p4340.l2562

christmas round the corner - how scary is that Shock

notcitrus · 23/08/2011 19:18

claimedby - can't blame someone for asking - at least they did it before auction ended!
If it's in the EU or USA/Canada/Aust/NZ I pack the item and weigh, add 50g, then look up Airsure/International Signed For price, add 50p or so, and quote that.
Usually they bid enough to push the price up but not win. :)

People who win auctions without asking for p+p to their country up front get an extra couple quid numpty tax added. No complaints so far!

TheOriginalNutcracker · 23/08/2011 19:33

Can I join ?

Have just photographed a load of stuff to put on over the next couple of days. No idea how much i might make but with 3 birthdays in the 6 weeks before xmas, anything is a bonus.

Tortoise · 23/08/2011 20:32

Roosteroo Mine hass been low for at least 5 mths! Even selling items doesn't seem to have made any difference!
10 watchers on one item Grin

bilblio · 23/08/2011 22:37

Wish I could advise on the DSR's but I haven't got any yet, not sold enough.

The idiot man didn't reply, and we sold it to a lovely man who was more than willing to collect and left excellent feedback :)
In hindsight I wish we'd listed it at a higher price though because I suspect he got a real bargain... that's why I'm starting high this time but willing to come down in price if they don't sell.

I've now got 3 watchers on the perfume, and almost everything else has 1 watcher... I think the craft kits it's likely to be the same person... I just hope they're not people like me who watch things as a way of bookmarking them for a wish list :o

Went in the cupboard earlier to get a bag down... I need to pack my hospital bag, and found a load of handbags my Mum gave me from the 60's. I went to a vintage fair 2 weeks ago and was astounded by how much they sell for..... They might be going on this weekend.

ballstoit · 23/08/2011 22:55

Can I join? Have noting on at mo, but DC back to school next week so am planning a huge clear out before I'm back at uni (without any of the DC doing what DNephew describes as Puss in Boots eyes at me Grin when I'm listing their stuff).

Can I just ask for some advice on something too? I sold one of our cots in June, buyer paid through Paypal but, despite lots of messages and texts, has still not collected it. Would you refund and relist? Or just hang on to the cot a bit longer in the hope that they will get their fingers out and collect?

Thornykate · 24/08/2011 08:33

Re the reserve price, I never tell them as it seems like a waste of time having one if I told them & the same purpose could be served by just starting the auction higher?

IMHO not telling encourages the bids from ppl who are just taking a chance on getting a bargain but maybe aren't serious bidders. This is still good though as it pushes the price up. Of course each to their own but it works well for me.

Am still annoyed at being told I've reached the limit on selling clothes for a month I have stuff ready to list here :(

TheOriginalNutcracker · 24/08/2011 12:12

Have finally listed some stuff Smile
