A thread to check in and say how we are feeling with no judgment. Taking one day at a time.

Your comment made me think @BusterGonad I used to take pride in my appearance, had my hair cut at Vidal Sassoon in Carnaby St, so have been trying to track back to the point that hair cuts changed for me, and I think it is tied up with when I became a mother/deciding I was rubbish at it, and beating myself up for it. Starving myself then binging seems to be part of that mindset.

I am close to 60 and obese, having been diagnosed with all sorts of health problems because of it. So the question is, do I have the self awareness to get on top of this and start to take pride in myself again? I am sick of wearing the equivalent of sack cloth in order to try and make myself invisable. I am sick of the person that I have become.

I was fine just after having my son, I had a 10 year stretch of being so confident and feeling great, just before having him (coincided with coming off the pill and having a job with good friends) and until he was about 7. Then we moved abroad and I got diagnosed with IBD, having no friends and coming to terms with being ill, I just lost myself. I'm 1 stone over weight according to BMI but I'm 2 stone over any weight I personally find acceptable. All I want is to be a perfect size 14, lol. I can't even believe that's my dream size. That's me settling. 😂 I'm a size 16 now, some 14s but I want to fit a 14 without lumps and bumps and in every shop. I don't know. I've woken up in a negative mood today. Too much change in my life and I'm not sure I can mentally deal with it.

BusterGonad · 17/06/2022 09:38

I AM SICK OF THE PERSON I'VE BECOME. This 100%. Sometimes I wake up in the morning and just cannot face the day.

BusterGonad · 17/06/2022 09:50

Just for clarification in my early 20s I had a terrible stint of under eating. Literally 700 cals a day, if that. I got down to 9st 3lbs, which doesn't sound too low but at 5ft 10 and an an average natural weight of 11st to 12st it really was very skinny for me. Even my boss at the time took me aside to have a chat about it... That then went full blown the other way. That's when the true binging started. I've had times of being normal.

I just don't know how I've gone from the beginning of the week being hugely motivated to today where I want to just eat everything.
Possibly lack of protein today and I'm tired and just can't be bothered.
So annoyed with myself.

Are you actually restricting your food, because if you are, you will always get to the point of throwing in the towel.

cheeseisthebest · 17/06/2022 13:35

Yeh I am. Been trying to do Michael mosesly 800 calorie this week and no carbs or sugar.
I've eaten loads today but still hungry, tired and sluggish.
I don't know what to do to lose weight.

cheeseisthebest · 17/06/2022 13:37

I actually feel shaky and my hearts racing

BusterGonad · 17/06/2022 13:48

What you need to do is stop dieting. You won't lose weight whilst dieting as that is what feeds the binge eating disorder. You binge because you've not allowed yourself to eat the foods you want to eat, eventually your body goes 'fuck this' and you eat all the foods you've missed in huge quantities. This isn't a dieting thread but a thread to heal binge eating. I did wonder why you mentioned rice cakes with chocolate earlier. You would've been much better off just eating a few of the biscuits you ACTUALLY wanted to eat. You will never control your money binge eating if you are constantly trying to lose weight and diet. We need to heal our issues with food and dieting just makes food an even bigger issue.

Ditch Michael Moseley. Eat more than 800 calories a day and eat carbs and sugar.

BusterGonad · 17/06/2022 13:53

I don't know where the word money came from 😂

cheeseisthebest · 17/06/2022 14:55

Yeh but if I ditch all that I would gain about 3 stone!!
I just don't know what to do for the best!
The shaking and heart racing is caffeine induced I think.

PashunFroot · 17/06/2022 15:12

@cheeseisthebest what foods do you find you binge on the most?

cheeseisthebest · 17/06/2022 15:16

Chocolate
Sweets
Toast

No you wouldn't because eventually all foods become neutral to you and the foods you binge on won't have such a hold on you. You'll believing diets are the key when they infact why you are failing.

I really like this to read when I'm struggling.

PashunFroot · 17/06/2022 15:42

I find swapping my cravings for something that’s a bit better for me helps to curb a binge sometimes. So when I’m craving chocolate, I stead of eating a family size bar of chocolate to myself, I find natural yoghurt with bananas and strawberries with chocolate sauce drizzled on top gives me the chocolate hit I want but also fills up my little fat sensors haha.

toast there is unfortunately no substitute for so I sympathise there!

Those are good @BusterGonad I have so many binge eating books in my kindle, I don’t know I will have time to read then

They are interesting reading.
So today I'm feeling extremely negative and if I actually had loads of crap in the house I'd be eating it ALL. Wouldn't be amazing just to unwired your brain from your stomach/mouth... There's talk in the Never Binge Again book about your lizard brain making you binge, which is true really. It is like having a horrible thing in your head making you comfort eat, and then at the end of it you certainly don't feel comforted, anything but.

BusterGonad · 17/06/2022 16:10

I'm going to order this book. 😊

I know. Its hard reading. Honestly you may think that depriving yourself of food is the answer but it's really not. I'm as lost as you but I know that trying to diet again isn't the answer. 😔
