Whilst it is your worst nightmare being admitted @DarkBlueEyes I do hope you and your daughter get some better support and interventions that you've not received to date...

Am going to post a resource note - does anyone have a good MARSIPAN link?

DarkBlueEyes · 26/09/2021 21:01

@Rollergirl11 we went to St. Peter's in chertsey I think on your recommendation? They were brilliant. X

This is a brilliant YouTube video of Dr Leanne Barron talking about the chemistry of eating disorders and what food the body needs to recover. It’s long but very interesting! Could be useful…

Dd has tested positive for covid 😩 she's saying she'll kill herself without being able to go out/walk the dog.

Nightmare.

Lougle · 27/09/2021 06:25

Oh girlie. That's hard isn't it? May the days go quickly.

Valleyofthedollymix · 27/09/2021 11:35

Great list thank you so much.

I found Musby almost unreadable I'm afraid, gosh she could do with a good edit. There's one metaphor about bungee jumping that she extends over a whole chapter that is painful. Similar message but much better, IMO, is Janet Treasure Skill-based Caring for a Loved One with an Eating Disorder.

@Girliefriendlikespuppies I know I shouldn't say this but I'd be tempted to let your DD out very early in the morning or at night to walk the dog if the area around you is quiet. Outdoor transmission is unlikely to the point of impossible. My other DD had Covid last week and none of us, including unvaccinated DD with her fragile body weight, caught it despite a lack of social distancing (what do you do if your mildly ill child asks for a cuddle?).

Valleyofthedollymix · 27/09/2021 11:37

@DarkBlueEyes so sorry that you're going through such a traumatic time. We have friends whose daughters needed the horror of hospital in order to jolt them into recovery - my DD seems to be able to jog along at a too low but not hospitalisable (not a word) weight and I sometimes wonder whether our desperation to keep her out of any inpatient unit is holding her back.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 27/09/2021 13:38

Thanks valley and Lougle it's a bit of a nightmare (understatement) dd already saying she won't eat if can't walk 😩 we've been for a PCR test earlier today.

I am going to have to let her walk otherwise it risks undoing months of work however I hate feeling blackmailed by the ED!! Plus we live in a fairly compact estate and there is a high risk that she will be seen by someone who knows her. I'm not totally sure what the consequences would be of getting caught?! Too afraid to Google, given I'm a nurse I'm assuming not good.

I've never wished we lived in the middle of nowhere more than now!!

I know what you mean about Eva M valley I lost the will with the bungee metaphor as well!! I did find some of her communication ideas useful and there's a part at the back of the book (if you make that far) which I think is useful for all parents of teens regardless of ED or not!!

Valleyofthedollymix · 27/09/2021 14:11

Ha I need to dig out my copy and reread the bit at the back of the book. The trouble I find is that you read stuff and if it's not relevant to you at that moment, it doesn't embed. For example I read Musby when DD was being very sweet and compliant so all the stuff about dealing with a child who refused to come to the table didn't stick.

It might be ED demanding that she be able to walk @Girliefriendlikespuppies but at the same time, there are worse habits to have formed. I'd really hate having to stay locked in and am v glad that our Covid times have come when we no longer need to. I got called by Track and Trace about DD2's positive PCR and listed family members and that was that. Absolutely no other monitoring. I think you could claim mental health if it came to it (which I'm sure it wouldn't ).

I just happened to be reading about self isolation and then your post and this part is relevant to you :

"People with learning disabilities, autism or serious mental illnesses

Not all these measures will be possible if you, or those you live with, have conditions such as learning disabilities, autism or serious mental illnesses. Follow this guidance to the best of your ability, while keeping yourself and those close to you safe and well, ideally in line with any existing care plans."

Anorexia comes under serious mental illness. Anyone approaches you you can't say "medical need" - just be ready with the immediate response.

NCTDN · 27/09/2021 19:20

@Girliefriendlikespuppies if dd tested positive, she'd still be going out for walks. No doubt about it. Otherwise she'd also say what's the point of eating? That's part of the reason we allowed her back to college.

Bettybarkalot123 · 27/09/2021 19:29

DD went to clinic again today. She now weighs 45kg, almost back to what she was when we first talked about her ED and when I took her to the GP. I worked that out as almost 82%wfh.
Im feeling more positive now and DD seemed reasonably happy too. ☺️

NCTDN · 27/09/2021 21:39

Good news Betty.

Lougle · 27/09/2021 22:21

Well done Betty! DD1 has dropped weight slightly but still within target range and her appetite is picking up slightly.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 27/09/2021 23:12

Thanks theorig I hoped there was some clause like that, dd is almost certainly autistic as well (even though at a recent assessment they decided she was boarder line 🙄) her ED psychiatrist definitely thinks she is autistic as do I.

We managed two walks and kept well away from other people, I have had to be on her to eat though. She tried it on for breakfast, lunch and snack with 'I'm not hungry' 😐

Has anyone had covid? Does it knock the appetite a bit?

She seems otherwise fine in herself other than a bit achy and tired.

Yay for a gain Betty well done 👏🏻

myrtleWilson · 28/09/2021 01:19

Good news Betty!

I'll close this thread out now we're only 6 posts away and start thread 5

DarkBlueEyes · 30/09/2021 09:16

Hi all thanks for asking after me. Things are not going very well. She is now 7 days in and still resisting food and trying not to eat it. Has been tube fed twice. Doesn't want to get better. Doesn't even want to come home - in the 7 days she's been there she hasn't said she wanted to come home once, so this is not the catalyst I'd been hoping for.

now on Olanzapine and sleepy but we're not sure if it's the lack of sleep or the meds that are doing it.

The staff are amazing but are having difficulty with the ED team as they dont' want to come to see her, but apparently now it's been a week they HAVE to.

I can't see a way out, I really can't. I know I've said this from the beginning and I really wasn't being an eeyore, I have a funny sixth sense. She is on a mission to self destruct and I can't see it ending well.

She;ll be discharged and then she'll kick off at home and will be back in through the revolving door.

I just despair.

But I do love seeing the progress that your DDs are making, I fantasise about my DD being well again.
