Donor conception
Instituto Bernabeu - experiences?

Just starting out on exploring this avenue after four failed attempts at IVF. It still feels like a large leap to make as I still had hope that I might be successful with my own eggs but starting to come to terms with this and now looking into alternate options.
My clinic works closely with IB in Spain, and I'd love to hear experiences from anyone who has been through a donor cycle with them. How did you find the whole process? What worked well and not so well? Any advice that you can share?

carjoosie yes they will give you a choice of dates and you can say a preferred one. But you will need to book flights close to time so I used last minute dot com. That's for transfer as the meds need to be taken for a specific time.
I've just returned from having my transfer and am in the tww! Can't believe it. Trying to distract myself.

When I let them know my period had started, that's when I was told to start meds. They then gave me 3 dates and I said my preferred, but couldn't book flights until scan to make sure lining was good to go. Then they ok'd the date and I could book flights a week before.

Same here they gave me a definite transfer date about a week before.
Although I’ve now done this 4 times so for the last 2 transfers, I told them my preferred month and the date I would like to have the transfer and then just booked the flights for that date weeks in advance and hoped the scan and bloods wouldn’t change it. It didn’t and so was worth the gamble. But that only really works if you’ve done it before and know how you’re likely to respond to the drugs (assuming you’re having a medicated transfer).

We didn’t get daily updates but did get fertilisation and then day 5. I don’t think we got a day 3 one, but you might do. I don’t think they do daily updates generally as they don’t like to interfere with the embryos more than necessary as it can affect their development.
Good luck!

Hi, I was a patient of Instituto Bernabeu and I received egg donation November 2014. I had 6 very good embryos grade B. The first embryo transfer I conceived straight away to twins, I lost one twin at 7.5 wks unexpectedly but my other twin survived and I have a beautiful 4 year old daughter. My 2nd embryo transfer failed a year later. I had a different specialist who did things completely different to the first specialist I had. I did email the clinic and complained as to the way I was treat in theatre. The specialist performed an internal scan as soon as he had put my 2 embryos back inside (I didn't have this with my first embryo transfer) plus the specialist talked Spanish throughout the whole procedure nit telling me anything he was doing. He wasn't as professional as the other specialist who spoke English throughout to me. The last 2 embryos we couldnt afford to do anymore treatment so were used for research in the laboratory.
How is your journey going? I had received egg donation because I had my fallopian tubes removed prior to IVF as they were blocked. Egg donation was the best decision we ever made - our clinic who had links to the Spanish clinic was Bourne Hall in Cambridge xx
