Instituto Bernabeu - experiences?

Just starting out on exploring this avenue after four failed attempts at IVF. It still feels like a large leap to make as I still had hope that I might be successful with my own eggs but starting to come to terms with this and now looking into alternate options.

My clinic works closely with IB in Spain, and I'd love to hear experiences from anyone who has been through a donor cycle with them. How did you find the whole process? What worked well and not so well? Any advice that you can share?

Hi @CJ72507 the call was postponed to today so hopefully I'll have news later.
I will need some ultrasounds in the UK so need to get the dates of those.
I've now started on the testosterone gel which is part of my protocol.
How about you? Any idea of next steps?

@JeNeBaguetteRien Fingers crossed you get some good news today!

We managed to get flights to Alicante so panic over. Next month will be my pre-cycle with the Prostap injection to sync with the donor and then we’ll probably start late July/early August. I’m so nervous. This is my first donor cycle and I keep having wobbles about whether I’m doing the right thing but hopefully that’s normal x

Report

JeNeBaguetteRien · 26/06/2020 00:42

@CJ72507 such a relief you've got your flights!
I can imagine the mix of nerves, excitement and more nerves!
I think the wobbles must be normal but so many people on these boards have been so happy when they have achieved the dream of becoming a parent, for now can only imagine but if our journey includes a donation of some of the vital (genetic) ingredients to form a family then what you do with that and how you raise your child is all up to you, and they must be very much wanted to go through this process. I hope you'll be holding a little bundle next year. X

My call was fine, I've got a date for an ultrasound here in the UK and depending on how things look we'll start in July or August. I've booked flights for July but they are flexible. I won't book an apartment until closer to the time as I don't know for sure if we'll be travelling in July. We've had so much additional expense/wasted money due to coronavirus. We had antibody tests this week, we don't have antibodies so either haven't had it or had it so mildly we didn't develop antibodies. IB will do a coronavirus test in Spain.

@Caroosje hope those little lines are getting stronger!

@Caroosje Oh wow, that’s a lovely strong line for 6dp5dt!

@JeNeBaguetteRien Glad to hear the call went well. It must have been awful having the treatment stopped because of Covid. Time to get excited now though! Will you make a holiday of it?

Thanks for your kind words. You’re absolutely right, the unknowns just a little scary x

@Caroosje Goodluck for your beta tomorrow x

Thank you and wishing you a really good start with your cycle aswell...it is coming close! (I do understand the wobbles of a donated egg...I do find it difficult aswell ...especially for the baby...I hope we do the right thing...what are your doubts?)

Report

JeNeBaguetteRien · 29/06/2020 00:10

@CJ72507 yes it was awful having the treatment stopped, I was responding really well (way better than I ever had before) but even if I'd got to Spain the clinic had to close.
I think we'll not take any time off work as the distraction might be good in the days waiting to hear how many embryos we've got! And then take a few days to chill I hope.

The unknown is a little scary but some people have walked this path before us including a dear friend of mine who has a beautiful child. I think having a baby is always a bit unknown it's just that we've had so much more time waiting for it to happen that we've thought about it so much, compared to those lucky enough to get pregnant quickly, same as for single people or same sex couples, there's more logistics involved so you have to think about it.
Anyway I'm rambling but I think the wobbles are really normal. 💐

@Caroosje fingers crossed for a good number tomorrow.

@Carjoosje - I hope it all went well today ♥️

Where I’ve had quite a few ICSI cycles in the past, I know that my optimum transfer period is dat 18-20 with a blastocyst. I’m worried that they won’t be able to time it well enough and the transfer will be too late. I’ve tried explaining my worries to them but the coordinator just says it will all be fine. I suppose I just understand how they can achieve that level of accuracy. As you know, it’s so important to transfer at the right time and I just fear it won’t go to plan. I guess they could freeze them if worst came to the worst but I have quite a lot of additional treatments during the 2 weeks before like intralipids, accupuncture and 3x Neupogen infusion so I’d be devastated that all went to waste. How did it work out for you on your fresh donor cycles? X

Report

Caroosje · 29/06/2020 20:39

I understand you will have a fresh transfer? I have a lot of confidence in the medical staf at IB. (Not necessarily the patiënt coördinator but the docters are really up do date. Can you not aak for another Skype call?)
My fresh transfer did not work in february...don t know why. It was a medicated cycle. Now I had a natural fet.
(Had my beta today...hope results will come back on wednesday...I had do order a beta with a private lab...but I am confident...line progression is great and I got a good dark line on hpt today ..will let you know my beta score when I get it)
