Hi turtle. I am also in Herts but decided to use the Herts and Essex Clinic. It's a bit further away for me as well but I have booked annual leave which will make it doable. My job is not at all flexible, hence the need for leave. I am a doctor but still have no idea what people on this thread are talking about half the time - not my speciality I'm afraid.

Sending good thoughts for a positive result this month Munro and pickle.

Chasing · 15/07/2017 23:04

Hi all, does everyone here have scans leading up to IUI? Is it optional or standard practice? It wasn't even offered by our clinic.

We're excitedly awaiting the arrival of our little one in August after our second IUI attempt Smile

kwick · 16/07/2017 10:42

Welcome Turle!!!
Don't worry too much about fitting everything in - you will.
If you do not want to tell exact details to boss you could always say you have a personal problem that needs on going treatment?

Munro good to hear IUI went well and you got your preferred donor.

Having had two first appts - One with CRGH the otger with IVI - I can confirm they vary widely!!!

Different clinics have different protocols - so for example when I was doing unmedicated IUI I still had to trigger ovulation.

Chasing CRGH does scans on the lead up - for unmedicated IUI I also was using OPKs.

Pickle!!!!! Hope you have not been a bag of nerves all weekend. You are in perfect time!!! Remember - the power of I am?

I am strong and valiant
I am juicy and fertile
I am ready to receive every good thing
I am in perfect time
💋

Been ok, I usually am in between the appointments it's the morning of the appointments that the upset tummy sets in. Hoping that I won't be anxious tomorrow as I know what will be happening, my follicle is right size etc

I am now back home after a bit of shopping and housework is done so just going to have a relaxing day and a little snooze 😁

TurtleTree · 16/07/2017 15:04

Hello to a fellow Herts person Wonky! I'd be happy to use annual leave but thought generally it was unpredictable when you'd need the days. Also if it takes several cycles I'd quickly run out of time off (though I should probably be more positive and optimistic than that, right?) Hopefully more will become clear after appt tomorrow.

So wonderful to hear that it does work quickly for some like you Chasing. My piggy bank is not bottomless so I'm hoping I'm wonderfully fertile and it won't take too many tries...

Good luck for tomorrow pickle!

pickle162 · 16/07/2017 15:15

Congratulations chasing :)
All the clinics seem to do everything completely separately e.g. My clinic make you have an empty bladder for the iui whereas other clinics make you have a full bladder.

Turtle you may be entitled to some leave depending on your works maternity policy. I have taken all my appointments as annual leave -this cycle all in all I've taken about a a day off in total so it's not mega amounts, I just went back to work after scans
Majority I have prebooked, latter cycle I have had to swap a few things around so made up time on certain days. It really depends on whether you go with your own cycle or whether you go on the pill. I went on the pill so they could predict when baseline scan and follow up scans would be. This was invaluable for me.

Thank you....about 19hours to go 😁feeling all squiggly with excitement

kwick · 16/07/2017 18:08

OMG chasing I think I may have missed your BFP announcement!!! But for it to be due in August that means baby is nearly fully baked?

Empty bladder Pickle??? I was told a full one of necessary to hold the fully mobile womble in place to get the catheter in.... good on you you do not need to have one - I usually find that bit almost as bad as the speculum...
Only 16 hours to go!!!!!

I made is a lovely lunch only for there to be (another) argument at the table - brother and SIL... happens so often!! Angry
Anyway I am back home now for a relaxing evening before a major milestone day tomorrow at work with my new job (we switch on all the recruitment systems, policies and processes with the company we bought last year). GULP 🤢

So excited for you pickle - how exciting! I'm looking forward to getting to that point!

pickle162 · 16/07/2017 19:10

Wish you'll get here soon enough, I was on this site for 18months before my first treatment (through choice)

Kwick yep empty bladder (thank goodness or I'd prob pee pee on them) the catheter bit I didn't even feel, the speculum on the other hand 😱😬but I have breathing exercises for that and going to take some paracetamol before hand. Last time I went to the loo twice before they took me in, then they ask you to go again. I could literally pee for England 😂
It's so weird isn't it how different the procedures/advice are-between clinics, clearly don't make too much difference as all our clinics have about the same success rate.

15hrs 21 mins eeeeppppp!!!! So pleased it's in the morning I can't wait much longer I'm so excited

Chasing · 16/07/2017 20:04

Thanks all, I don't think I posted when we got our BFP back in November and time has literally flown by. Although looking back the milestones like testing, first scan, finding the gender, all seem along time ago. We're at the stage where we have everything but baby (and a name which seems like an impossible task).

Thanks kwick that makes sense. We wanted to opt for unmedicated initially and are fortunate to have been lucky on our second attempt.

It's really exciting to see all the movement in the thread. I struggle to keep up but have by fingers firmly and perminantly crossed for everyone.

kwick · 17/07/2017 07:09

Best of luck Pickle!!!

Bear1980 · 17/07/2017 09:26

Good luck pickle I imagine you will be on your way now. Sending positive thoughts your way

Wonky35 · 17/07/2017 09:39

Good luck today pickle

Not sure about 'juicy' kwick. Reminds me of the word 'moist' which I also think sounds a bit wrong!

pickle162 · 17/07/2017 09:54

Thanks :)
Just walked in and the receptionist was like hello holly (think I may have been here too much in last few weeks)
Stomach is like a washing machine which is annoying me as I'm not worried just excited.....stupid ibs 💩

pickle162 · 17/07/2017 11:08

All done, apparently I have a super curved cervix so was tricky going in, super painful still but don't feel so abused this time. I'm laying down now with some water and a biscuit (VIP treatment this time-biscuits wahoo) been told not to wee for 10mins and then can get dressed etc.
Had my fave nurse so think she'd told the consultant how worried I get & how painful I find it. Was a different consultant this time, he didn't scan first but least it meant all done quicker. Sperm 14.6 million, don't know motility- not really fussed as i can't do anything about it. 18 days here I come

StorkAhoy · 17/07/2017 11:31

Congrats Pickle!!

Munrowalker · 17/07/2017 11:58

That's great pickle! Glad you were well looked after. Funny how different clinics recommend different things. Mine is like 'That's you all done, go pee and get dressed'
I normally choose to lie down for a few minutes after and they are good at giving me time to do that.
I never have a scan on the day either. Just straight on it following a positive pee stick.
🤞🤞🤞

Goingsolo2017 · 17/07/2017 15:03

HI ladies,

Hoping to join in the discussion after being recommended this place!

I'm 32 and currently undergoing my 15th cycle of treatment/6th ivf with donor sperm. I'm single and spent 2 years thinking about becoming a mum and the last 4 years actively trying. Only been pregnant once (first ivf) but sadly lost my twins at 8weeks.

Got my baseline scan tomorrow and ec probably August 7th. Would love to chat to others in the same boat because I've struggled to find any other single ladies going through ivf! x

pickle162 · 17/07/2017 15:41

Hey solo welcome :) well you won't find a more supportive group here. Everyone is so very kind and supportive.
15 cycles wow! You poor love ❤️ have you got a low AMH or have they looked into why? Sorry about the loss of your twins x

Munro last time I couldn't wait to get out quicker and I sat for maybe 5minutes but was so distressed I just wanted to get out. This time I said I needed yet another wee and the nurse said well hold it in for a bit longer and lie back. Then brought me the biscuits, (anyone who brings me biscuits is a super ⭐️) so I laid back with my phone and drink and biccies. After about 15mins I got dressed, went to the loo and sat down for bit longer. Think they were quieter today but equally I wanted to stay longer.

Goingsolo2017 · 17/07/2017 16:19

Thanks for the welcome pickle! Yup, 15 cycles and somehow I'm still standing haha the first 9 were natural iui and just didn't work.

1st Ivf went textbook perfect and got pregnant with twins but mc
2nd Ivf they tweaked the drugs and I didn't respond as well. Only got 4 eggs and 2 poor quality on day 5 (they wanted to transfer on day 3 but I was quite unwell after ec (bad reaction to progesterone!) and I couldn't face travelling to the clinic for a day 3 transfer)
3rd Ivf they tweaked the drugs again and I had an awful cycle - 27 mature eggs collected, only 2(!!!) fertilised even with icsi. They refused a fresh transfer because I had so many eggs collected and was high risk of ohss so I had to have one day 3 embryo frozen
4th cycle was a FET in January this year from 3rd cycle. Embryo thawed well and I started to get very very faint BFP after a week but negative on OTD. possible cp??
5th ivf in April was cancelled the day before ec because my follicles stopped growing and only one was big enough for collection. Frustrating but the right decision.

This time we are doing the exact same drugs and doses as my very first cycle and I'm also on metformin this time. I don't have ohss but may have insulin resistance because my follicles are always so slow to grow and I struggle to lose weight. Fingers crossed! Everything else is normal, AMH 34, no other problems - just single and struck with bad luck it seems haha

Anyway, anough about me - I'll get on my computer later and learn more about all of you. So glad I found this place!

pickle162 · 17/07/2017 16:29

Wow I am very impressed you are still standing. Good luck for bl scan tomorrow

Pez82 · 17/07/2017 17:24

Hi Solo and welcome! Wow I too am impressed with your resilience. You're a inspiration to all of us!
Luck does play a massive part in this journey so hopefully this is your turn. I don't understand why they tweaked the meds if your first cycle worked well. Have you stayed with the same clinic all this time?

If you go back to the start of the conversation you'll see where most of us are at (although a few weeks out of date I think)

Pickle, best of luck for your second TWOT xx

StorkAhoy · 17/07/2017 18:05

solo ah, there you are! I'm storkahoy on here! Yes a lovely community didn't I tell you?! :)

TurtleTree · 17/07/2017 18:06

Glad you got through it pickle - fingers crossed for the next couple of weeks for you!

Solo wow you have been through a lot. Have you been at the same clinic throughout?

I had my initial consult today. From the scan the doc reckons I have PCOS and mild endometriosis but he didn't seem that bothered. He said if I was NHS he'd operate and make it all lovely but as I was private it would be very expensive and he thought I'd be ok without.

I will need medicated treatment though due to AF not being regular enough. I was planning to do IUI but the doc has given me much to think about - basically said that if I did an IVF cycle now, could get enough eggs to freeze some for future (baby no 2, or if I meet someone) and implant now, and as success rate is higher it should be worth it.

I still like the idea of less invasive IUI but even if successful, I do want a second child and going through EC with a young child will be harder than doing it now. IUI less likely to be successful in 3 years, and have more disposable income now for the more expensive treatment. So conflicted!
